There were several items on the list of things to do in Virginia Beach. Meetings, elections, competitions and parades were all held in a very short time frame. This year’s meeting on Thursday the 10th was a busy one with some changes to MASA by-laws being voted in. Temple reporting requirements, registration changes and committee changes were all voted on by the representatives. The Necrology Service was held Thursday afternoon to honor all MASA Past Potentates that have been called by the Black Camel during the past year. Following the Necrology Service, the new MASA Officers were elected by the representatives. Congratulations to (President) Ronald R. Klee, P.P. (Raja), (Vice President) Mark D. Mettler, P.P. (Irem), (Second Vice President) Keith A. McKnight, P.P. (Zem Zem) and (Third Vice-President) Henry Haughey, P.P., Recorder (Cresent) on being elected to their new office. I would also like to take a moment to congratulate Illustrious Sir Russ McKinsey on his being elected to Vice-President of the MASA Cabiri. This is quite an Honor for all of these gentlemen and Zem Zem is very proud to be well represented at MASA. Several units traveled to the beach to represent Zem Zem this year. Thank you to the Fez Flyers, Hornets, Tri-Wheel and the Wheel Patrol for making the trip. Congratulations to all four units for bringing back the hardware this year. Each unit brought home a trophy for either the Friday Competition or the Saturday Parade. “Way to go guys, you have made us all very proud!” October is here and it’s time for the Ladies Jewelry Raffle. Saturday, October 24th is the big day and Lady Leah and her team have been working very hard to make this year’s event a success. The First-Lady’s project this year is replacement of the Operating Room lighting systems at our Erie Hospital unit. The current system is old, outdated and it’s nearly impossible to find replacement parts. The new system comes with a price tag of $55,000.00 and will help every surgery patient that comes to our Erie unit. Our surgical team is also looking forward to the replacement of the old lights as well. Nobles, we need your help for this event. Keep selling those tickets and don’t forget that we need servers on the day of the event. Wear your tux (no jacket) and your biggest smile as we cater to the ladies on their day. We will also need help in the kitchen on the 24th. Remember, this is a Temple function and points will be counted at this event. Let’s not forget about our recruiting efforts. The end of the year may be approaching, but we still need to keep looking for that next new Noble. Membership is the key to the success of our fraternity and our philanthropy. We all have friends and acquaintances that we know would make a great addition to our Nobility. Take some time and talk with them about joining. Invite them to tour our Erie Hospital unit to see all of our little “Miracles in Motion.” Let them see how proud we are of our Fraternity and Philanthropy. When we add to our team, our work as Shriners will be that much easier and enjoyable too. Fall may be here, but there are still parades on the schedule. We will be on the street in Tidioute on September 26th. We will also be putting on a show for the Pumpkin-fest Parade in Conneaut Lake on October 10th. Both of these Temple Functions are very important in our mission to let everyone know and learn about Shriners and Shriners Hospitals for Children. I personally invite and encourage everyone to come out and be part of the fun that we have while on the street. I encourage you to attend your Blue Lodge and your Clubs and Unit meetings. Don’t forget to support other Clubs and Units by attending their meetings. The best way to get participation is to be a participant. Remember, anything is possible through teamwork! Yours in the Faith, Ed Ferris 2015 Potentate, Zem Zem Shriners DUES CARD INFORMATION SHOULD YOU NEED A REPLACEMENT DUES CARD, CONTACT THE RECORDERS OFFICE. A $5.00 FEE WILL BE CHARGED AT THE TIME OF ISSUE. Page 2 NOTES FROM THE RECORDER….. NOTES FROM THE RECORDER….. The Sportsman’s Spectacular and the Truck Give-a-Way are now history. A report on both fundraisers will be given at the 3rd Quarterly Meeting to be held on Wednesday October 28th, 2015. Dinner will be served at 6:00 PM and the meeting will start at 7:00 PM. If you are coming for dinner, we must have your reservation. Please call the office and let Sarah know you will be having dinner. October brings the final parade for the 2015 parade season, the final friendship dinner, the jewelry jackpot and the quarterly meeting. If you haven’t yet checked out the following sites on your computer, you should. Both sites are maintained by Shriners International and provide information on benefits of being a member of this fraternity. Check out “Shriners Village” and “Beashrinernow.com.” Unfortunately, Zem Zem still has a few members that have still not paid their 2015 membership dues. Letters have gone out to these Nobles and they have until December 31, 2015 to pay up or be subject to suspension. NEW EMAIL ADDRESSES FOR ZEM ZEM SHRINE Dues notices for 2016 will be mailed out from Shrine Headquarters in Tampa sometime around the first of November. This is something new this year. Your new dues cards beginning in 2016 will also be new as Shriners International is moving to a plastic card. More info as it becomes available. Life membership in the Shrine is available to any Noble. To become a life member the cost is 20 x the current dues of $63.00 or $1260.00. To become a life member of the Imperial assessments the cost is 30 x the assessment. Hospital assessment would be $150.00 and the Per Capital Assessment would be $450.00. If you want additional information regarding how to become a life member, please contact my office. Cost of a new member is $150.00 up to October 15th, 2015. From October 16th-December 31, 2015 the cost is $225.00 which includes the initiation and dues for 2015 and 2016. The cost for a new member in 2016 will be $175.00. Should you have any questions regarding Shrine protocol, bylaws, information on how to join a unit or club or Shrinedom in general, give me a call. I’m here to serve. Until next time….. Jeffrey B. Our leader out front with his shining swords and that movement across the street was something to remember. Dick you are #1 in all shrine parades. The band and the flying carpets did a great job to excite all the parade watchers. The little community really enjoyed the shriners and units that made it there. The band will make a run down to the Conneaut Lake for the Pumpkin Parade in the home of ILL. Sir Ed and his lady. This will be the last parade of the year for the band. The cool weather will be setting in and the horns don’t work that well in the cold. Also the band members don’t work that well either. We will be back in the spring with one and only flying carpet. So see you in the spring at 2016 1st parade. The band would like to thank the 3 shriners who spent the last year preparing for the “SPORTSMAN’S SPECTACULAR & CAR GIVEAWAY.” They spent endless hours in preparation for this event. The band would like to “TIP THEIR FEZ” to Rick Killian, John Hayden and Wayne W. Best. THANK YOU! The Shrine Hospital Telethon and JET TV was a success and the Shrine Hospital will benefit from this event. The funds generated will help in the purchase of the robotic arm for surgical unit at Shriner. Thanks to all out donors. Also in Oct. will be the “JEWELRY JACKPOT” on 24th. This event is the first lady’s fund raiser for Shriners Hospital. This year she is looking for funds to purchase new high tech lighting for the surgical unit. Let’s all take part in this event. Please remember all 22 Shrine Hospitals. Thanks John Seastead :-) Jewelry Corner I would like to thank all the nobles for supporting the Jewelry Comm. at the “SPORTSMAN’S SPECTACULAR.” We had a very successful day. We sold a large amount of mugs, ZZ shirts, shrine jewelry and a variety of shrine attire. The profits from my sales benefit programs at the Erie Shrine Hospital. If you should need any items in the case please check the office or the bar for excess to the cabinet. You pay them at time of purchase. If you would like something not in the case please contact me and I will surf the web for your selection. Remember the 22 Shrine Hospitals and the those children that need our help. Remember the smile on their face when they say “THANK YOU.” Thanks, John Seastead Annual Dinner Meeting & Election of Officers The annual Erie County Shrine Club Dinner Meeting & Election of Officers will be held on Thursday, October 22nd, 2015 at the Zem Zem Shrine Temple.
