Fé 9 Monster Blitz – Football – Sat 28th March
Youghal U9‟s hosted U9 Monster Blitz on Sat 28th March, two teams from Erin‟s Own took part, one from
Fermoy and two Youghal teams. Everyone had a great time and there was a great standard of football played
by all.
A special thanks to Peter Kirk and Ruairi McMahon who kindly refereed and did a tremendous job. Thanks
to the parents that helped out in any way and for providing refreshments to all afterwards

Monster Blitzes U7
Our first monster blitz for the u7‟s in 2015 saw a good turn out on a cold and blustery Saturday morning, 28th
April in Killeagh. We had 2 teams competing and each played 2 competitive games against neighbours
Killeagh.

20 training sessions and two Rebel Óg Monster blitzs complete, the U8s team are really enjoying
themselves. With over 26 kids attending training each week all are really flourishing and having fun.
The kids attended the Monster Blitzs in Killeagh and Carrigtwohill where they proved themselves against
other clubs in the East Cork region. Youghal had 4 U8 teams and each team were impressive in the skills
displayed and the passion shown. Training is on Saturday mornings at 10:30am and on Monday night at
6:00pm.

On Saturday 20th June Eochaill Óg under 5/6’s travelled to Abbeyside in Waterford for a friendly match.
This was a first outing for a lot of the children, and they really enjoyed the experience. Each player got to
play three matches against different teams from Abbeyside, and showed great skills and technique in every
match.

Fé 10
The Under 10’s played in the Ballyduff Invitational Hurling Tournament and played 5 matches over 2
separate weekends. It was a real intercounty affair with clubs from Tipperary, Cork and Waterford
involved. We have played a number of challenge matches, the most recent one being on Tuesday 23rd June
in Ballynoe against St. Catherine’s. This was a wonderful game of hurling from 2 very evenly matched
teams. We are continuing to train intensely during the week and encourage all players to carry a hurley
around with them to develop their skills. We are developing a very good squad of hurlers and footballers.
Next week sees us train with the Under 9 team and we will play an inter club mixed game. The Parish
Leagues were a huge success for this bunch of players, this involved 6 matches over a 6 week period and
our squad would like to thank in particular the huge input from Alan Geary, Andrew Murphy and the
sponsoring Bulman, O’Sullivan and Pomphrett families. It is with a lot of sadness we bid farewell and bon
voyage to Declan Sugrue who heads back home to America on a permanent basis, thanks for the jokes
Declan.

Players and mentors as one big happy group before battles commenced to decide the 2015 Parish League
Finals held on Friday 12th June at Club Áras. In all about 70 players partook in the competition and a feast
of hurling was enjoyed by all. Well done to all involved!

Our under 6 players have had a busy few weeks playing hurling and football. They have enjoyed every
minutes while learning a few new skills along the way.
On Saturday 25 July we travelled to Killeagh for a monster hurling blitz, we had five teams on the day. Team
A: Andy O Sullivan, Jack Mc Carthy, Isaac Mc Mahon, Jayden Linehan and Nathan Geary. They had two
games playing Kilta Og & Killeagh. Managers - Carmel O‟Sullivan & PJ McCarthy. Team B: Marley Walsh,
Ciaran Hehir, Cormac Foley, Dylan Hogan, Abbey Cooper and Sam Murray. They played Killeagh &
Lisgoold. Managers - Joe Hehir & Aidan Foley. Team C - Donnacha Coleman, Brian Griffin, Shauna Smiddy,
Leo Nicolson and Shane Coffey. They played Kilta Og & Carrig na Bhfearr. Managers - Eoin Coleman.

Saturday 15 August we played in a monster East Cork hurling blitz that we hosted in Youghal. There were
18 teams on the day - Youghal, Midleton, Kilta Og, Russell Rovers & Carrig na Bhfearr. Team A: Andy
O‟Sullivan, Ciaran Hehir, Cormac Foley, Ben O Driscoll, Sean Lyons, Amy Lyons, Nathan Geary, Abbey
Cooper, Seoirse Hill and Leah Lenane. They played Midleton & Kilta Og. Managers - Carmel O‟Sullivan, Joe
Hehir & Paul O‟Driscoll. Team B: Marley Walsh, Brian Griffin, Donnacha Coleman, Killian McCleverty, Isaac
Mc Mahon, Dylan Hogan, Sam Murray and Charlie Varion. They played Carrig Na Bhfearr and Midleton.

Saturday 22 August we played our first football blitz away to Killeagh. Each Youghal team played Killeagh

O‟Driscoll and Dylan Hogan. Managers - Aidan Foley and Paul O‟Driscoll. Team B: Oisin Crowley, Cian O

Fé 7 – Summer Update
The Eochaill U7‟s have been regular attendees at the Rebel Og blitz blitzes over the summer months. These 3
weekly blitzes as well as an extra Wednesday night training sessions have served to increase both the skill
level and enjoyment level for all the lads. A great week was also had at the recently held Cúl Camp. The
good news is we plan to keep up the good work over the next few months. A special note of thanks to the
regular coaches Alan Healy & Colie Walsh as well as the other dads and even granddads that help out at
training and blitzes! During September plans are in place to hold a parish football league for the U7 &8‟s
following on from the success of the hurling version (Fe 9-11)! Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Fé 8 – Trip to Ballygunner (Waterford)
On Saturday 22nd August, Youghal U8s headed to Waterford to play Ballygunner in what turned out to be an
epic Hurling Blitz. Youghal headed out early with a bus full of 32 players, mentors and trainers. With some
fine singing of “Up the Youghal Boys” on the way down to calm the nerves before the match, Youghal were
in fine form for the upcoming battle.
With four teams of 8 and three games it was a fine sight to see. Ballygunner got off to good start but it was the
Youghal boys (and girl) who rose to the challenge and gave as good as they got. There was some great
displays of skills from the Youghal players with some lovely goals and points from out of the hand. It was
“end to end” hurling with all players fighting to the bitter end. The standard of hurling from both sides was
very high and one can only think that legendary Cork V Waterford battles are here to stay.
After the match the Youghal lads headed to the Ramada hotel where the sausages and chicken nuggets went
down as fast as the goals against Ballygunner.
The Youghal lads returned victorious to the club house with more singing on the way back. All players and
mentors were exhausted after a great and memorable outing. The U8 management team would like to thank
Cormac Galvin, Anthony Horgan and David McCarthy for helping out on the day.
