HATCH'S HEARTH Your retreat for a happy home. september 2016 Taking Your Home From Summer to Fall: See How add some {pumpkin} spice to your entry way We all love summer and the outdoor décor it brings – from adirondack chairs to brightly colored pillows. But now, it’s time to add some {pumpkin} spice to your outdoor décor! Fall brings out the decorator in homeowners, and their canvas – the home entry way – can leave a lasting first impression. Hatch Realty provided a gorgeous home for me to decorate. I chose to focus on the entry area, as a beautiful focal point for friends and family when driving up to or walking into the home. This space had a great foundation to start with – a large stone wall, wood ceilings and a rustic bench with metal accents. To see more of the home, click here. In this post, I’ll tell you how you can integrate three décor elements to make your entry area a space that anyone will fall in love with. Now grab your Pumpkin Spiced Latte and join me, Christen Joy of Christen Joy Hatch's Hearth September 2016 Homes, to add some spice to your outdoor space. I. Mother Nature Foremost, it’s all about layering - my recommendation is to gather a plethora of items to play with. Organic elements, such as flowers, branches, or dried plants are perfect for this season. I purchased mums, a classic fall plant, at a local hardware store for $10, though if you are lucky, you may collect elements from your own yard or garden. I also obtained birch branches for the back left corner, and filled in the white spaces with pinecones and brown brush, see by the “Hello Fall” pillow or along the ledge. Don’t forget to look in your backyard for these great, organic finds that will make your space come together! II. Staples Though it’s tempting to want to create a brand new look & feel each fall, it can be costly. Here are a few ways you can nail your fall, year after year, while still staying within budget. One word – staples! These are pieces you can use every fall, and they’ll never go out of style. Purchase the pumpkins you want to carve with your family, but opt for craft store look-a-like for pumpkins if you don’t plan on carving. While at the craft store, pick up smaller gourds and apples; these are great filler items, plus, they can be used outside or inside year after year. Next, take a peek at the craft store’s floral area. A fall fan favorite are Chinese Lanterns, which have a vibrant, bold color, yet are delicate and airy. Purchasing the artificial option allows you to play with these in your outdoor space without losing any “lanterns” – if you go with the real deal, be careful, as these fall off the stems easily. Remember, investing in staples will allow you to save dollars on your outdoor area next year. III. The Unexpected Think of your entry area as an extension of your home, because it is! When looking for items to place in your space, think about what would work with the home – just as if you were decorating your indoor space. This is where your space will get its personality. I chose metal and wood accessories to bring out the rustic elements of the home and also to play off the industrial feel. Remember layering, I looked for objects that Hatch's Hearth September 2016 could help me– pillows, side table and metal baskets. Pillows help bring a “home” feel to this outdoor area. The pillows in this design are welcoming and work perfectly with the bench. I also wanted to bring in a few unexpected items, so I opted for two metal accessories in different sizes. They paired nicely with the indoor/outdoor lanterns which added warmth to the space. Just imagine the warm glow of these candles in this entryway at night – stunning! If you’re worried about candles, opt for battery-operated, flameless versions. Be purposeful in making your entry area unique to you and your home; you will love it, and people will notice. Wishing you all a wonderful fall - I look forward to falling in love with your entry areas! -Christen Joy [email protected] @ChristenJoyHomes @christenjoyhomes Featured Listing 3405 4th Street East, West Fargo MLS #: 16-2117 Check out this stunner of a home!
