Club Officers: President Ken Scott President’s Message Greetings Coastal Carolina Corvette Club members and let's welcome the fall season in as the temperatures begin to cool down from our summer heat. First, I would like to extend a big thank you to our Corvette club members for braving the weather at the Activities Marchant Chevrolet Open Car, Truck, and Motorcycle Show in Ravenel, SC. The beneficiary was Camp Happy Days that helps Kim Sheldon children battling cancer. Our next beneficiary will be Pet Helpers at our Street Thunder Open Car, Truck, and Motorcycle Show on October 17, 2015, Northwoods Mall at the Sears parking area on Rivers Ave. Also, I would like to thank our club members who have participated in other cars shows throughout the local area and showing support for other shows in the area. Secondly, VP – Social the CCCC social event at the Cowboy Brazilian Steakhouse was fun and a real fulfilling event. Again, as stated before in our Activities newsletters -­‐ WE LOVE TO EAT!!! Granted, most of our club members went home quite full from this tasteful gathering. Kris Daugherty Our 2016 CCCC office election is approaching next month during our October meeting. In order to vote or hold an office in the VP – Membership Coastal Carolina Corvette Club, you must be in good standing in accordance with club bylaw Article II, Section I: Membership, Paragraph (c.) SOCIAL ACTIVITIES SCHEDULE – Kris Daugherty At the meeting on Sunday I passed at choices for the Christmas dinner. I will inform the club at next meeting of the decision the club made. October 24, 2015 we will be doing the Corn Maze in Jedburg then traveling to the Music man restaurant in Moncks Corner for dinner (sounds like fun!). Time to be determined. November 14, 2015 will be the Oyster Road at Roger and Kitsie King's house on Edisto Island. The cost for oysters will be $13.00 per person payable to Roger or Kitsie due at next month’s meeting. Hamburger and hotdogs will be furnished by the club. We do ask that you please bring a side dish. If you are unable to be at next month’s meeting please call me, so that I can let Roger know. Don't miss out on the fun. December 5,2015 is the Christmas party being held again at the Air Force Base. The price is the same as last year. $25.00 per person. Be prepared to pay starting at next month’s meeting. We had fun last year, and I am hoping to continue that fun this year. If anyone has any questions please call me at 740-­‐973-­‐2146. The support of club cars and members at these shows is critical for our success of each show. Thank you to everyone who came and supported our show at Marchant Chevrolet Saturday Sept 12. September 29, 1953: The automotive press get their hands on a Corvette for test and review, as the Corvette is officially released. Eight Corvettes are made available to the press at the Milford Proving Grounds •
September 9, 1955: Zora Arkus-­‐Duntov races a disguised 1956 model Corvette with a V-­‐8 engine at the Pike's Peak Hill climb, setting the stock car record of with a time of 17:24.05 •
September 2, 1994: The National Corvette Museum opens in Bowling Green, Kentucky. 4000 Corvettes attend. Over the three-­‐day weekend, 118,000 people visit the museum. Nominations for all elected offices is now open! Before nominating someone for a position, please speak with him or her to ensure they wish to run. Please remember that in order to vote in October or hold an office, you must be in Good Standing. Good Standing requirements are that you must attend at least 4 club meetings and activities (4C hosted show or activity) within the previous 12 months in addition to donating 3 door prizes for the Super Saturday shows (does not include VDC Door prizes). Rookies are prorated for these qualifications. Please contact Christine Van Leir with questions regarding your standing. •
Nominations are due in to Ken Scott no later than Sunday 9/27. •
Elections will be held at the October Business meeting. If you know you will not be attending the meeting, please contact Ken Scott and request an Absentee ballot. Absentee ballots may be returned to Ken prior to the business meeting via email or may be placed in a sealed envelope and provided to any current officer prior to the October meeting. •
October opens the 2016 membership year. Dues are renewable for all members returning for the 2016 year. Membership dues are $30 single membership and $40 dual membership and are due by the January meeting. Renewals received after the January meeting will be assessed the reinstatement fee of $10 in addition to the renewal fee. (Members who join after 10/1/15 are paid for the 2016 membership year). Renewal forms are required for all members, they can be found on our website or at meetings. PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS – Kim Sheldon The 7th Annual Marchant Chevrolet Open Car & Truck Show was our third show of the season. For the second year in a row we had rain! Due to this we had only 29 participants come out for the show. As for club cars we had 21 to come out and brave the weather. That was an increase of nine club cars over last year. Our show participants seemed to like the early model Vette’s again with the top six being either C2’s or C3’s! Congratulations to Bill & Regina Johnson and their 63 Split Window for taking their second first place of the season, Tom Lufkin and his 1978 Pace Car in second, while Tim Hayden and his 71 Convertible rounded out the top three. As for the season standings, with their win Bill & Regina moved back into the top spot. Tim Hayden moved up two spots to second place. With his sixth place finish Joe Michel and his 77 Coupe jumped three spots to round out the top three. The biggest improvement in the season standings goes to two cars that jumped ten places since the Mount Pleasant show! Ed & Kathy Lipman and their 2008 Z06 moved from 24th to 14th place. While Roger & Kitsie King and their 2012 Grand Sport Coupe moved from 28th to 18th place. Also for those new to the club, the third column on the season standing shows the change from the previous show’s standings. The symbol NC stands for no change, (+ and a number) stands for the number of places improved, while (– and a number) stands for the number of places lost. CHARITY REPORT – Jackie Holst Our car show in July at Mt. Pleasant Chevrolet raised $1, 900 benefiting Roper Scholarship Fund for Nursing. Our car show in Sept. at Marchant Chevrolet raised $ 1006.00 benefiting Camp Happy Days. Our car show in May that was cancelled for Crews Chevrolet benefited Lowcountry Food Bank, as they were the charity for the show. Crews donated the sponsorship money to CCCC and ask us to give to the charity of our choice. The amount that was given to Lowcountry Food Bank was $475.00. Our show at Sears Northwoods Oct.17th will benefit Pet Helpers. Hope to see everyone at show. SEPTEMBER MEETING MINUTES – Liz Furmanek
The meeting was called to order at 3:00 pm by Ken Scott, President. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and a moment of silence held. Standing Reports: Jim Buckley, Treasurer, gave the Treasurer’s report. Marty Ott won the treasurer trivia question for 50/50 tickets purchased by Jim. Jackie Holst, VP of Charity and Public Relations, reported that the club had received a letter from the Low Country Food Bank in thanks for the th
donation made by Crews Chevrolet. Jackie reported that she has received a great deal of pet item donations for the October 17 , Street Thunder show at Sears, sponsored by Crews Chevrolet in which the designated charity is Pet Helpers. She indicated that additional pet food, as well as office items, would be greatly appreciated. Christine Van Leir, VP of Membership, gave the membership report. She announced that Mike Attisano and Jennifer Hill were recently married in Las Vegas. Christine reminded members that membership renewals will start next month and fees must be in by the January meeting. Kris Daugherty, VP of Social Activities, reported on upcoming social events. The club will be travelling to the Brazilian Cowboy restaurant on th
September 19 and, in October, the Corn Maze followed by dinner at the Music Man restaurant. An oyster roast at Roger and Kitsie King’s home on Edisto Island is planned for November. The club Christmas party will be held in early December. Kim Sheldon, Board Member and VP of Competition, gave the competition report. She thanked working club members for their participation at the recent Marchant Chevrolet car show and indicated that further shows at that dealership are being discussed. Kim reminded members that our next car show will be the Super Saturday – Street Thunder show sponsored by Crews Chevrolet and to be held at the Sears parking area at the Northwoods Mall. Kim confirmed that she has obtained a contract from the Doubletree Hotel (soon to formerly be the Holiday Inn and past VDC host hotel for the past years). Kim reminded members that the chairperson of the VDC is an appointed position and, after chairing eight years, she does not wish to continue. However, Kim said that she would mentor and assist any person(s) interested in the job. She also reported on upcoming car shows in local and other areas and provided fliers. Paula Jones newly appointed NCM Ambassador, expressed her excitement about her new position. She updated members on NCM activities and raffles and encouraged members to check the NCM website for the numerous activities available for all ages. Paula shared the recent NCM email news, which thanked the CCCC for donations made to purchase picnic tables at the Motorsports Park. Paula also encouraged members to download a free NCM app available for iPhones and android phones. Jim Furmanek, Board Member, updated members on the last two races of the season at COTA (in Austin, Texas) and Petit Lemans at Road Atlanta in Georgia. He provided times and dates for the races to be viewed. Jim read an email from a disappointed Corvette fan regarding the VIR race due to IMSA sanctions. However, he highlighted VIR events with Paula’s hot lap ride and Bob Driscoll’s opportunity to do a Hot Pit tour. There was no website report. New Business: Ken reminded members that there will be upcoming officer elections in October. Those wishing to run and/or vote must be in good standing. Club members, wishing to vote, but not able to attend the October meeting, should contact Ken for an absentee ballot. Guidelines regarding submission of absentee ballots are outlined in the by-­‐laws located on the website. Del Davids, Board Member and Logistics Coordinator, informed members that more door prizes will be needed by November, as we provide many prizes at the October Street Thunder show. The 50/50 raffle was won by Jackie Holst. The meeting was adjourned at 4:15 pm. Following the meeting, Mac McDonagh conducted an auction of Corvette Racing memorabilia in which all of the proceeds will go to the NCM Motorsports Park. A huge thank you to Dave James, #3 Corvette Racing crew and honorary club member, and Kim Sheldon, and Mac and Brenda McDonagh for donating auction items. Liz Furmanek 10
