FUN FOR ALL - Helpers, Inc.
FUN FOR ALL Challenger is for boys and girls 4-30 years old, with physical, intellectual and developmental disabilities. The fundamental goal of the Challenger program is to give everyone a chance to participate regardless of their limitation. Athletes with a wide variety of disabilities including Autism, Asperger’s, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, spinal injuries, etc. are placed on teams with peers and coached by volunteers. Challenger is about more than playing a game. It’s about making new friends, building self-esteem and being a part of a team. To help athletes, we use a “buddy” system and pair each player with a volunteer that is at least 10 years of age or older. YMCA Challenger Baseball Opener and Family Fun Day Saturday, May 7, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. All families and children are invited for fun activities for all abilities at our accessible sports complex. Luke Hochevar, of the Kansas City Royals and Challenger Spokesperson, will be at the complex in the morning. Get active with a moonwalk and an obstacle course, bicycle give-away, Radio Disney, healthy snacks, face painting, games, prizes, a YMCA Challenger baseball game and more. This event is free and open to the community. Fred and Shirley Pryor YMCA Challenger Sports Complex is located on the south side of 152 at the Platte Purchase exit across from Barry School. Luke Hochevar, pitcher for the Kansas City Royals, is the YMCA Challenger Spokesperson. YOUNG ADULT ACTIVITIES MONTHLY EVENTS BASEBALL For teens and young adults ages 13 and older.
