Seagate Adopts Heat–assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) Technology

Seagate has applied the HAMR technology to its new 2.5” 10KRPM enterprise hard drive, and
they plan to bring a 20TB hard drive to market by 2020.

WD Acquired SSD Market sTec, Inc, and Virident Systems
WD has successfully acquired STEC and Virident expanding its
market into the enterprise/server-class SSD product line.
P-trade will keep an eye on WD and Seagate SSD

Big Data Supercomputer Catalyst Fired Up
U.S. Department of Energy has completed the design of a
supercomputer, Catalyst, for Big Data use. The new system fully
utilizes SSD as a storage medium. According to the market
analysis, in the future Big Data era, SSD will become mainstream.
Catalyst supercomputer at Lawrence Livermore National
Laboratory will provide a proving ground for new HPC and
Big Data technologies and architectures.
