Help others Help yourself Skit - show how we help ourselves at a movie theater Why Perform Self-Advocacy? Once more, Why Self-Advocacy? ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ Help others who follow us Reduce self-doubts about our hearing needs Overcome fear and silence among ourselves No whining zone No complaining Do it to help Ourselves or Those coming after us I cringe when I get publicity but would prefer to help anonymously and watch the benefits occur after me ◦ After a couple years of complaining and whining, it’s tedious to re-hash ◦ Misery loves miserable company: I don’t. Many of us don’t either. Time to go and fix it! ◦ Let’s fix it Our rewards occur when folks use the captions, neck loops or loops and complain to fix those.
