Dierdra McElroy -Quilt Artist
Tafaifai Way (Tahitian Applique)
Debbie Kelton
Dierdra "Didi" McElroy is an
internationally recognized quilt artist,
specializing in technique and hand
workmanship. She has produced a video
entitled That Perfect Stitch™, written
numerous magazine articles, and
developed the
Roxanne brand
name. Roxanne
products have had a significant impact on the quilting industry. Dierdra's passion for the people and art of Tahiti
make her an enthusiastic and enticing
instructor. She delights in motivating
students to step outside of the box to
creative heights and strive for excellent workmanship no matter their style
choices. Didi is recognized as one of
the world's greatest hand quilters and
her ability to break down that art into
manageable steps amazes her students.

EQ7
Top quilt design software for beginners to advanced.
Ever wondered if you’d enjoy quilt design using a computer? Own a laptop?
Purchased EQ7 and it’s still in the box? Have you used it but still have questions? Then this is the workshop for you. The first class will take you
through the basics of the program and you will end up with a completely designed quilt. The second class will go into detail of the drawing part of the
program to design your own unique design. You must have a laptop with program installed and registered.

July 17 Sew-In
Special thanks to all who came to
July Sew-In. Some members
worked on Isolettes and pillow
cases while others brought their own projects. All seemed to
have a great time. Next year we will work on getting the room reserved earlier.
Thanks again for making a difference in our philanthropic projects.
Deborah Kelton
Nancy Palmer
Our July Sew-in had a wonderful turnout and everyone had a great time
visiting with fellow members. Our new Directories were handed out and they
look great. If you missed the meeting, make sure you get yours next month.
Maureen Palmer and Martha Francis did a fabulous job getting lots of ads that
paid for the printing and a great color cover. There are a few corrections that
need to be made and we will be providing a list of them in a future newsletter.
Our Website Committee has been hard at work creating a new user
friendly website for us. We are launching it now, several months before we
originally planned so please make the correction in your Directory. The new
website is www.cottonpatchquiltguild.org. Training will begin soon for any members who need to add items to the website. You can contact Carol Smith for
any questions you might have about it.
We now have all of our Committee Chairmen in place. Thank you to Betty
Colbert and Sally Shuppert for volunteering to do the Day Door Prizes. If you
want to share in the fun and work on a committee, contact the appropriate
chairman and volunteer. We have room for everyone to get involved.
Plans are underway for a New Member Orientation in October. We want
anyone who has joined in the last 12 months to be our guest. We will have our
chairmen and officers there to answer your questions and to explain who we are
and what we do as a non-profit organization. We will have more information on
a date, time and place soon.
In August, we will be selecting the name for our Quilt Show for 2016. This
name will be printed on the tickets for our 2016 Opportunity Quilt. We will also have the quilt at the meeting so we can select a name for the quilt as well.
Publicity for the Guild, the Quilt and the Quilt Show will begin immediately. If
you want to help with Publicity, contact Cher Pannell at [email protected].
Let’s make this a great year!

SPCA PROJECT
Thanks to all for helping with making the dog and cat
pads. Please do not donate scraps of fabric or batting. No
one wants to take the time to piece them (crazy quilt
pads!!). It really is preferred that you make the pads
yourself instead of donating fabric. Even if you can only
put 5 together, that is great (20 people x 5 pads = 100
pads!!). Your help is really appreciated for the animals.

SWEET DREAMS
…..34 Pillowcases….
Thanks everyone! WOW!!! We had a lot of fun at the Sew-In...it was my first. I
got to meet a lot of new people and a few that were making their first pillowcase.
I’m in need of some BOY FABRIC. So if you have any, please bring it by my table
and don’t forget to pick up a kit or two.

Bragging Rights
by Marilyn J Smith
Many of our members are sending their quilts to be seen and judged
at various Quilt Shows. If your quilts are out there in shows, please
let me know about your acceptances and your wins. We want to publish this info in our Newsletter each month. Email Your Name, Quilt
Name, Quilt Show Name and Date, and “juried in” or which “ribbon
won.”
I know that Mama said it isn’t nice to brag, but please grit your teeth
and email your quilt show successes to [email protected]
BRING YOUR IDEAS
Don’t miss the Guild meeting in August. Members will be
naming not only the Opportunity Quilt but giving a name
to the February Quilt Show in 2016.
If you have questions, please contact Judy Walker
393-6096
The 2014-15 Member Directory is ready! Nearly 100 members who came to the
July meetings were able to pick theirs up already. I will be passing them out at
the August meeting as well, and then they will go into the mail.
There are a few corrections I’d like to call to your attention1.
LaVonne Templeton should have been listed with our Master Quilters on
page 2
2. On page 3 Nancy Erskine (evening greeter) phone # should read:
809- 5898
3. Also Nancy Erskine’s name should not be listed under evening Show & Tell
4. On page 13 Dyna Hall’s e-mail should read:
[email protected]
We are so sorry for any errors - it was a big undertaking, and we are only human!
Maureen Palmer, Directory Chairman [email protected]
Ronald McDonald made it BIG this month! Thanks to
great members for bringing water bottles totaling
$12.01. Plus 2 blankets, crayons, bath items and lot of
tabs. That wasn’t all! Maryln Rauser dropped off a
check for $20.00 and lots of tabs. (I think she misses
not being chairman). At the September meeting I will
be telling everthing about Ronald’s house, what they do
and where the donations go. Hope to see you all! Thank
you ALL.

our July meeting. Remember to use your card for discounts at most of our local quilt stores.

didn’t pick yours up, they will also be at the August Guild meeting. Any remaining directories will

for the next two weeks, a place will be set up at the Membership Desk for adding your name to
the list and paying the cost of the badge. The order will be placed as soon as we have at least
18 names for the order. If you have any questions on this, please contact me at:
email: [email protected].

Membership Chairman, Mary Jo Henry at: email [email protected], or phone: (661) 8710703 or (661) 809-0433.
Thank you also for your support during the time I was Membership Chairman. It was a wonderful
opportunity to get acquainted with our guild members.
Looking forward to another year,
Sincerely,
Char Emery 2013-14 Membership Chairman
Did everyone, at our last meeting, enjoy seeing some of the isolettes hung for
your enjoyment and to give new ideas? The Guild has provided two quilt racks so
that some of the isolettes donated each month can be shared with the membership during the meeting.
It’s that time! …… time to consider joining Loving Hands and make a commitment
to provide an isolette each month September to June. (10 of ‘em). If you are
leery of “commitments”….we will gladly receive your isolette at any time! (Many
hands make light work!)
Isolette Info:
Cotton Fabric
32” x 32”
Washed with label on the back (no raw edges)
I know some of our members are traveling....if you completed last year's isolette commitment and did not receive your gift card, please contact me.

A Thank You Note
Received by Deanie Hogan for the CPQ Loving Hands
My name is Alyssa Swan and I was recently lucky enough to give birth to a beautiful baby girl who I named Lily. Unfortunately, due to a rapid onset of preeclampsia, my baby was born seven weeks early. Due to this, my little one had to stay in
the NICU AT MEMORIAL FOR 37 DAYS. When I first saw my daughter in the
NICU, I NOTICED A BEAUTIFUL QUILT LAYING OVER HER BED. The nurse
explained all about the wonderful people who made these and donated them to
the NICU BABIES. My family and I were so touched by this. The thoughtfulness of your wonderful group was so inspiring and I felt that my baby was loved
by a group of generous strangers. This quilt was the first thing to ever belong to
my Lily and we will keep it in her hope chest and tell her all about her wonderful
keepsake made by angels. Thank you for showing us love during the most scary
and emotional time in our lives. God bless. Mathew, Alyssa and Lily Swan
Bettie Madsen
Why in the world didn’t we all know about this sooner? My dear friend
Roberta Williams sent me an email showing me a LED Lighting System. I
checked into it and ordered almost immediately.
Check into it if you’d like a little extra light while doing anything. A strip of
LED lights on an adhesive tape. Cut it to the length you need, then adhere
it to your work area. May be put on a tiny sewing machine (cut to fit) or a
long arm quilter.
Purchased from Inspired LED, out of Tempe, AZ.
http://inspiredled.com/products/kits/sewing-machine-led-lighting-kit
If you click on the site above you can see their YouTube film they sent
out. It's really a great light! I love it. They suggested to attach a section
just to the top of the machine's throat. I put it as close as I could to the
needle then to the throat, the lighting is unbelievable! Hope I have given
you enough information.
If you have any questions, contact Bettie at [email protected]
From The Library
If you picked up a “free book” from the table, please check the front to see if
you picked up a library book by mistake. At least 2 books are missing.
