DENK www.mentorschools.net/lake Page 6 Placement of Students in Classes Each year questions arise regarding the placement of children in classes. Placement is based on the following rationale: Male/female distribution Talent and ability levels. We seek to have an equal distribution within each class. Social/emotional considerations. Children who do and do not work well with each other. Equal distribution of students from sending teachers to ensure that each child is acquainted through the years with all students. Other validated psychological/emotional considerations. Teacher and psychologist input. As you may note, parent information as it pertains to the needs of their children may be a part of this placement. It is the intent of the Mentor School System to take into account all factors in educational needs when making placements. Specific teacher requests are not always able to be honored due to the needs of the grade level as a whole. Please remember that occasionally there is a need to make last-minute changes to accommodate a new enrollment or change of an enrollment. As a result, assignments are given with the understanding that in some cases a change may be necessitated prior to the beginning of school. Any requests should be made in writing and returned to Mrs. Poremba by April 29, 2016 OPEN ENROLLMENT MATRIX 2016-2017 Applications for the Open Enrollment may be picked up at any of our school offices or at the Mentor Board of Education and will be accepted from May 1 through May 15, 2016. Interested parents should complete one application for each student and return it to the Student Services Office at the Mentor Board of Education, 6451 Center Street during the enrollment period. Parents should only submit an application where a grade level vacancy is indicated. It is important for parents to understand that making application for Intra-District Open Enrollment does not guarantee placement. Transportation to and from the non-home school is the responsibility of the parent.
