Dear Friends, From our founding in 1890 by two brothers – Jesse and Lester Williams – MARSHALLTOWN has grown from a fledgling company that made trowels and other tools for plasterers to a robust company that offers over 5000 products for professionals as well as do-ityourselfers around the world for use in asphalt, brick, concrete, drywall, EIFS, flooring, paint, plaster, stucco, tile and wallpaper. The words below, taken from our first known catalog (circa 1900), still ring true today. “OUR OBJECT in issuing this catalogue of the tools we make, is to intelligently present to the plasterer the superior quality of our tools. Cheap goods or tools of any kind never reflect credit on the maker, neither do they give satisfaction to the plasterer or dealer that handles them. It requires skill and art, as well as quality of material, to produce high grade goods that will always bring their price and never fail to give satisfaction. For this reason the intelligent, practical and thoughtful workman will always look for the best tools. Good tools of all kinds are a credit to the manufacturer, give satisfaction to the mechanic and pleasure and profit to the dealer who sells them. Cheap tools are never worth more than you pay for them. Honesty and square dealing inspires confidence. It is upon this platform we have attained the life, prosperity and success of our business.” MARSHALLTOWN TROWEL WORKS MARSHALLTOWN, IOWA Despite our growth at MARSHALLTOWN, we have stayed true to our roots. We are still family-owned by descendants of Jesse and Lester. We still manufacture the vast majority of our products in the USA and some of them in Marshalltown, Iowa. We still manufacture tools with superior quality and we use honesty and square dealing when we work with people. However, staying true to our roots doesn’t mean we haven’t changed! We were the first to offer some of the most innovative changes to our industry - DuraSoft handles, diamond shanks to stop rotation of finishing trowel handles, indestructible bumpers that ended mushrooming on brick trowels handles, PermaShape trowels, the Enforcer for texturing and spraying, Skywalker Stilts, and many, many more. We also have made major improvements to our infrastructure as well as our manufacturing and distribution processes to make sure that we can continue to serve our customers well for the next 125 years. It is with great honor and pride that I am writing this letter to introduce our 125th anniversary catalog.
