The Eaglet is a downsized version of our versatile Eagle tandem canoe. We offer three versions.
Eaglet I is a solo sport canoe. Intended for larger
solo paddlers or bigger loads the Eaglet I is very
maneuverable yet paddles easily and tracks well. It
also provides solid stability for those who wish to
add the companionship of a child or an animal.
Rigged with a single center seat.
Eaglet II is built and rigged as a small tandem
recreational canoe, ideal for moderately sized couples, parent/child or grandparent/grandchild situations. Rigged with two seats and a portage yoke.
Can also be utilized as a tandem touring canoe for
small statured paddlers.
Eaglet III is a solo/tandem combination canoe.
Rigged with two tandem seats and a solo center
seat.
All Eaglet versions are symmetrical hulls. Hull
laminates and trim are specific for each version.
Recurved sides as in the Eagle allow comfortable
solo paddling at the center of a hull wide enough to
allow tandem stability. Nicely flared ends enhance
seaworthiness.

Light, sturdy and versatile; the Eagle is designed
and constructed in the image of the renowned workhorse canoes of historic northern waterways. Legendary as the only means of transportation for tough
people in harsh environments. Built to be used where
no compromise is asked nor any given in canoe design and structure. Simply, a canoe to get you there
and back; wherever ‘there’ is.
Recurved sides with flared ends allows two design
innovations of note: first, the gunwale width at center
is reduced to 32”. The immediate result is increased
comfort and control while lifting and carrying. Secondly, the gunwale width at the paddling stations (in
front of each seat) is kept at 24”, several inches narrower than competitive canoes, allowing greater ease
of paddling. Stability and seaworthiness are not compromised by these design considerations.
Your wilderness may be an Arctic river, or it may be
an Adirondack lake; in either case the Eagle will take
you there; easily, safely and quietly.
Engineering & Construction
We construct Hemlock Canoe hulls using specially selected fabrics impregnated with a vinylester
resin system, the characteristics of which we
choose to match the durability and flexibility of the
fabrics used. We use vinylester resins for the superior chemical bond they provide when combined
with modern aerospace fabrics. Our exterior gelcoats are chosen for attractive appearance and
durability and we carefully spray them to maintain
proper thickness for optimum flexibility. Our experienced laminators lay up each hull by hand utilizing
several full layers of cloth reinforced with additional
partials (pieces) in areas of greatest stress according to the needs and uses of each individual design. We carefully cut each cloth partial to a predetermined pattern and place it to gain optimum
strength. We use no mat, woven roving or foam
fillers in our hulls. The correct amount of resin is
precisely measured to laminate the layers of cloth
thus allowing weight to be kept to a minimum. Finally we build contoured floatation tanks into the
ends of each canoe. A composite canoe built in this
way will have a very high strength to weight ratio.
We feel this manner of canoe construction yields
the highest quality hulls available consistent with
durability, weight and price considerations. Such
canoes have proven to be excellent long term investments.
Standard trim on our canoes is Northern White
Ash. We prefer Ash for its strength, resilience and
esthetic appearance. We have found properly dried
and treated Ash to provide a superior and durable
gunwale system. Several solo Premium Lite models are trimmed with Sitka Spruce. We select each
gunwale piece for grain and carefully machine it.
We then match gunwale sets and pre-oil them prior
to attachment on the hull. We inset scuppered
decks in each end and attach Ash thwarts and lifting handles. We offer several versions of a laminated wood framed seat laced with nylon webbing.
A traditional cane seat is optional. We drop and
cant each seat for comfort and fix it in correct paddling position. Nessmuk and Nessmuk xl have a
shaped Minicell foam seat pad attached to the
floor. All fasteners are stainless steel. We impregnate all woodwork with several applications of a
high quality marine wood preservative oil.

This type of craft has come to be generically
known as the Adirondack Pack canoe, and is
the best way to obtain the smallest, lightest
solo recreational paddle craft. Incredibly handy
to paddle and transport, the Nessmuks will surprise you with their quickness and seaworthiness. Nessmuk is an historic replica of a canoe
commissioned by author George Washington
Sears for his Adirondack cruise in the summer
of 1880 and built by Rushton Boat Works of
Canton, NY. Nessmuk xl is an enlarged version.
Sized solo touring canoes designed for
lake country travel. Agility and tracking are
blended in these canoes, which are capable
of covering long distances with heavy personal loads in many types of water conditions. They paddle easily, covering the
same daily mileage as tandem canoes. Kestrel is the smaller hull and has less wetted
surface than the Peregrine allowing it to
maintain equal hull speed with a lighter, less
strong paddler.
