2010 was a momentous year: the World Cup in South Africa, the oil spill in the Gulf, an
earthquake in Haiti, WikiLeaks, China as the world’s second largest economy, and the european
debt crisis. In our region, these events translated into one of the most dynamic years of global
education programming by your Columbus Council on World Affairs. for the first time in the
Council’s history, two heads of state (President of Iceland and President of Somalia) spoke in
our community. And the Council launched its first live webcast as well as a fresh, compelling
website. Yet none of these achievements were possible without the most important of the
year’s accomplishments. Our community delivered record-setting support for our mission to
inform the region about the world’s most pressing issues. This generosity of time, attention,
and funds is treasured. Thank you all who helped make the Council a robust engine of global
education for more than 4,800 students, teachers, professionals and community members.
