In Your Own Backyard Home and Pet Sitting Services When cold weather comes to town, the winter blues can strike everyone in the family - including your pets. A few things you can do to keep their spirits on the rise when the temperatures fall, is to increase their food amounts. It takes more energy to stay warm when it is chilly outside, and make sure they always have fresh water. Provided them with a warm bed and if your pets are outside make sure they have shelter with some bedding for warmth. Check on them often to make sure the bedding is dry. Don't forget to exercise your pet by playing inside when the weather is too cold to be outside. When the weather allows you to walk your dog make sure you clean your dogs feet to remove any snow, ice or rock salt that may be on the sidewalks. It may look silly to some but many pets enjoy wearing a sweater just as we do, during these cold days of winter. Whether you are leaving for a few hours, days, a week or longer, even holidays and weekends, call me to care for your home and/or pets while you are away. I customize my services to the home/pet owner providing your pets with the same care and comfort they receive from you at home, eliminating the stress of your pets being placed in unfamiliar surroundings. I'll also care for your home with the same pride as you have for it, bring in your newspapers, mail, watering your plants and rotating your lights throughout your home. Call Jo Ann Hughes at 472-5970 about all your home and pet sitting needs. The family-friendly event begins at 6 p.m. and will feature Poole’s famous pulled-pork dinner, a silent auction, a dessert auction and a friendly one-hour Monopoly competition among friends and family at each table. Results of the fund drive, topped off by all proceeds from the Monopoly Game Night fundraiser, will be announced at the conclusion of the evening. Ivy Tech Wabash officials announced late last year an effort to raise at least $60,000 to help deserving students at Ivy Tech’s Wabash Campus reach their educational goals. At that time, representatives of the Pauline Barker Educational Trust pledged the trust would match up to $20,000 in donations to the major scholarship fund drive. “We are looking forward to a great Monopoly Night and revealing the results of this campaign,” said Pam Guthrie, executive director of the Wabash Campus. “With our tremendous campaign committee of Wabash County leaders, the support of the community has been amazing.” The campaign has been headed up by a committee that includes Annalee Benedict, Dr. John (Hap) and Jane Dragoo, Howard Halderman and Jay Vandeburg, along with Guthrie, Ivy Tech faculty member Jerry Perkins, and Ivy Tech Kokomo Region Resource Development executive director Kelly Karickhoff. Chuck Huffman of the Trust Division at First Merchants Bank, representative of the Pauline Barker Educational Trust, said the matching grant continues the trust’s longtime support of Ivy Tech in Wabash County. Tickets for the Monopoly Game Night fundraiser are $25 each and are available through the Ivy Tech website at www.ivytech.edu/kokomo/monopoly.html . For more information about Monopoly Game Night, call 260-563-8828. We need your help to distribute and collect each entry from each school to help make this year's coloring contest be successful. Last year there were over 639 entries thanks to your help. Entries will be judged on originality and quality of coloring in each age category. Only one entry per child is accepted. Prizes for the winners will be provided by United Way of Miami County. Group picture on Friday, April 3, 2015 @ 4:00 p.m. Please take a few minutes to let your students color the coloring page and perhaps explain a little to them about United Way. Ask them to try to do their very best job because we are going to display them at various places in the community. Entries need to be dropped off to the United Way office by Monday March 30, 2015 in order to give us time to judge them all. Please make sure the entry form is filled out; first and last name, phone number, age and identify if it’s a boy or girl on each child’s page in order to avoid confusion. Last names will be removed before they are displayed. If you have any questions, feel free to call our office. Thank you, and we hope the children enjoy coloring the picture.
