RE: Invitation Letter to the 1st BTCB British Open, International Taekwondo Championships
Dear National Federation / Head of Team,
I have the pleasure of inviting you and your team to take part in the British Taekwondo Control Boards 1st
British Open.
This years Championships will take place on November 1st and 2nd at The National Squash Centre,
Sportcity, Manchester. Sportcity was the location of the 2002 Commonwealth Games and will be an
excellent venue for the inaugural championships.
The BTCB have introduced this tournament to provide all International Teams and interested UK clubs with
significant competition experience in the UK prior to the London 2012 Olympic Games. This event will not
only provide athletes with good competition experiance but for teams travelling from overseas it will also
help you become accustomed to the culture of our country before you return for the Olympic Games in four
years time.

All participants must be members of a National Taekwondo Federation,
affiliated to the WTF. This membership must be proved by means of a
valid federal certificate of membership at the time of registration.
3. CONTESTANTS
3.1 Membership
3.2 Weight Classes/Categories: The event will be held to WTF age/weight classes these are as follows:
Senior Male (born in 1992 or before)
-54kg, -58kg, -62kg, -67kg, -72kg, -78kg, -84kg, +84kg
Senior Female (born in 1992 or before)
-47kg, -51kg, -55kg, -59kg, -63kg, -67kg, -72kg, +72kg
Junior Male (born in 1991, 1992, 1993 or 1994)
-45kg, - 48kg, -51kg, -55kg, -59kg, -63 kg, -68kg, -73kg, -78kg +78kg.
Junior Female (born in 1991, 1992, 1993 or 1994)
-42kg, -44kg, -46kg, -49kg, -52kg, -55kg, -59kg, -63kg, -68kg, +68kg
Juniors born in 1991 or 1992 may compete as a Junior or Senior.
Competing in both categories is not allowed.
3.3 Graduation
:
All Senior competitors must hold at least 2nd Kup. All Junior competitors
must hold at least 4th Kup

4. RULES
4.1 Competition Rules
:

4.2 Mode
:
Single elimination tournament system
Elimination rounds and finals: 3 x 2 minutes (30 second break)
4.3 Doping Control
: Doping Control at the British Open will be conducted according to the
World Anti-Doping Code and the list of Prohibited Substances and
Methods in force at the time of the event.
The OC will carry out medical doping tests among the participating athletes at random, any athlete who refuses to undergo testing or who proves
to have committed a breach of this regulation shall be removed from the
final standings and shall be subject to a disciplinary action.
4.4 Awards
:
Awards will be presented to all tournament champions and 2nd and 3rd
places.
Team trophies will also be presented for the top three teams in each catgory, male, female and in total according the medal standing (Olympic
System).
4.5 Hall Rules
:
Only the competitors and their coaches have admittance to the Field of
Play. Admittance will be by valid Accreditation.
One (1) coach will be accredited for every five (5) competitors entered and
granted free admission. There can be a maximum of four (4) coaches per
team. The minimum age for a coach must be 18 years. Coaches will only
be permitted at ringside in sportswear.
4.6 Equipment
:
All players must wear the required protective equipment (WTF recognised
head guard, WTF recognised body protector, groin guard, shin guards,
a r m guards, hand gloves and clear or white gum shields). A list of
companies which supply WTF-recognized doboks and protective
equipment can be found on the WTF website: www.wtf.org.
All contestants will be required to proceed to the inspection desk before
entering the competition area. Any contestant wearing unofficial
equipment will not be permitted to compete.
4.7 Protests
:
Only the Head of Team is allowed to protest to the LSC, immediately
after the end of the contest. An amount of £50.00 will have to be paid
for each protest lodged.
4.8 Liability
:
All competitors are considered to participate at their own risk.
The British Taekwondo Control Board and the organiser assume no
responsibility for any damages, injuries or losses. All contestants must
bring their own documents and medical insurance forms for any medical
treatment they may need whilst in the United Kingdom.

Under UK Law all competitors and visitors to the UK are required to carry
a valid means of Identification e.g. passport at all times.

5. ENTRY
5.1 Applications
:
Completed application forms and payment are to be sent to
Sport Taekwondo UK Ltd at the address in section 1.
Online player registration can also be completed at
www.ma-regonline.com.
5.2 Closing Date
:
The closing date for applications is Friday, October 17th 2008.
Applications received after this date will not be accepted.
5.3 Procedure
:
All received applications will be confirmed by the OC. Should you not
receive your confirmation please contact Sport Taekwondo UK.
Applications can also be submitted online at www.ma-regonline.com
(Martial Arts Registration Online).
5.4 Modifications
:
After the deadline competitors will have 5 days to modify their
applications for free online at www.ma-regonline.com or at the
registration for an amount of £10.00 for each modification. After the
official weigh-in no further modifications can be made. This means no
changes will be made in weight classes.
5.5 Refunds
:
No refunds will be provided by the OC for no completing athletes who
have already applied.
5.6 Entry & Payment
:
The entry fee for each contestant is £35.00 (GBP) or €45,00 (Euro).

6. HOTELS & TRANSFERS
6.1 Charges
:
The RedAlligator Group (the Organising Committee’s official event
partner) is holding an allocation of rooms in Manchester. Teams are
encouraged to book their required number of rooms early to guarantee
these prices. Please note that names will not be required at this stage,
just room numbers. Manchester is a major World attraction for culture,
sport & business, as such hotels can be in short supply especially when
booking late.
Britannia Hotel
The 3 star Britannia Hotel is a famous landmark dating back to 1858,
one of Manchester's premier architectural buildings. This lively hotel offers
good value accommodation & boasts a fantastic location in the City
Centre yet less than 2 miles from the competition venue.
The 3 star Sachas Hotel is part of the Britannia Group offering good
value accommodation in the city centre, less than 2 miles from the
competition venue. The Hotel has Carvery & Pizzeria restaurants, a well
equipped Spindles Health Club with pool, Jacuzzi, sauna room & gym
(chargeable).

Qualification event RedAlligator will quote and secure this for you and
offer advice on alternative accommodation throughout Manchester.

Coach or mini bus transfers specifically for your team can be arranged to
and from the airport along with transfers to and from the competition
venue.

7. INTERNATIONAL REFEREES
7.1. Invitations
:
Invitations to participating International Referees will be made by
the Organising Committee of the BTCB British Open. The
invitation will be final only when confirmation is received by the IR from
the Organising Committee.
Accommodation and full board from Friday 31st October (check-in 16.00
hrs) until Monday 3rd November 2008 (check out 10.30 hrs) will be borne
by the Organizing Committee.
International Referees will receive an allowance of €50 for each Tournament day (€100 total). Roundtrip airfare shall be borne by each referee.

All visa entries into the UK are dealt with on a case-by-case basis and the
outcome is dependant upon the information supplied by the applicant.
Participating teams should ensure that they visit www.ukvisas.gov.uk
where contact details of all British visa issuing offices overseas and further information can be found.

: The BTCB British Open has been part funded by UK Sport’s National Lotteryfunded World Class Events Programme, which aims to secure events of strategic importance that deliver a range of lasting benefits. These include economic, social and cultural benefits as well as improving sporting performance
by home athletes, encouraging participation and leaving a legacy of facilities
and development initiatives. Over 120 sporting events have been staged in the
UK through the programme since 1997.
Manchester has become synonymous with successful hosting of major
international sports event. Events allow the city to build on its community
sports programmes and develop a platform for Manchester to produce future
competitors for future events. Its major events also put Manchester on the
global stage and bring long-term social and economic benefits to the city and
its residents. In 2008 Manchester will host five World Championships including the UEFA Cup Final and the World UCI Track Championships.
