FR I EN D S OF LA KE FOR ES T LI BR A RY The Children’s Book Sale will be Thursday, June 6th 9am-6pm; Friday, 7th 9am-4pm; and Saturday, 8th 9am-3pm in the Library foyer. 75 boxes of books have been selected. Books for this sale are for infants through grade 8: fiction, science, award winners, picture books, animals/nature, history, board books, crafts. Cash and check only. Summer reading at bargain prices! The 38th Annual Fall Book Sale is scheduled for Thursday, Sept 12 (members/workers only) Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Sept 15 (1/2 price day) open to the public. The Sale will take place in the LF Rec Center gym, 400 Hastings Road. There will be 110,000 books organized into 115 categories, plus 2,700 music CDs and 2,500 DVDs. This yearly sale is a must do community event; mark your calendar now. If you would like to volunteer email [email protected] Donations may be left at the back of the library building 24/7. The Friends have joined with the Gorton Community Drop In Center to provide the “Children’s Bookshelf.” Books and CDs for young children and parenting books are available in the bookcase across from the Drop in Center check in desk. The Friends of Lake Forest Library’s recent Cook Book Sale in Sunset Foods featured 78 boxes filled with gently used cook books. It was a great success! Thank you Sunset Foods! Our annual appeal for membership was mailed in April, but you may renew or join at any time; pick up an envelope in the Library or go to www.lakeforestlibrary.org/friends/membership.html. Donations are appreciated at any time at www.lakeforestlibrary.org/friends/donate.html or pick up an envelope in the Library. The Friends of Lake Forest Library welcomed new Board members Karen Eckert, Gayle Griffis, Wendy McKiernan, Micaiah Robinson and Karen Zarse at the January meeting. Departing Board members Carol Champ, Sande Noble and Todd Puch have each completed six year terms but will continue to be active in the Friends. We appreciate their many years of loyal service. SAVE THE MONTH OCTOBER 2013 LAKE FOREST READS: RAGDALE “The Street of a Thousand Blossoms” by Gail Tsukiyama Join Lake Forest Library and our co-sponsor The Ragdale Foundation for Lake Forest Reads: Ragdale a one book/ one community program. Gail Tsukiyama, author of “The Street of a Thousand Blossoms” will kick off the monthlong reading celebration on September 30 with an author presentation at the library. Look for more information in our upcoming newsletters, on the web or at the library. Other community partners include: Dickinson Hall, Friends of Lake Forest Library, Lake Forest Book Store, Lake Forest College and the Music Institute of Chicago. “The Street of a Thousand Blossoms” tells the story of two brothers who find their way in post war Japan. Hiroshi aspires to be a sumo wrestler while his younger brother wishes to carve Noh masks. Copies are available to borrow at Lake Forest Library; copies are available to purchase at Lake Forest Book Store. Funded by Friends of Lake Forest Library After you read or listen to a book, get your card punched and fill out a raffle form. Prizes will be drawn each week. Prizes include local restaurant gift certificates, a Lake Forest Chamber of Commerce gift certificate, Williams and Sonoma gift certificates, and Lake Forest Book Store gift cards. Read/ listen to four books, complete the punch card and receive a USB drive. All who complete a punch card are also eligible for the Grand Prize –an Apple Gift Card. Limit – one punch card per patron. The Grand Prize drawing will be held in August. *Registration and prizes are limited to Lake Forest residents 19 years of age and older.
