RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - Almost two years after its founder
died, Eppie’s Great Race endures as restaurateur and philanthropist Eppie Johnson’s legacy. Inspired by his love of the
American River Parkway and dedication to fitness, Arcade resident Johnson began an annual event that has become almost as
central to Sacramento summers as Independence Day.
For the 42nd Eppie’s Great Race last weekend, the American
River flowed cool and fast. In contrast, morning Parkway temperatures rose to challenge more than 1,300 athletes. As it has
since 1974, the “world’s oldest triathlon” set a cracking pace
through stretches of Sacramento, Arcade, Carmichael, Fair
Oaks, and Rancho Cordova. Participants ranged in age from
11 to over 80 years old. The overall winner was a 57-year-old
Sacramento orthodontist, Dr. Vic Vicari. The Ironman sealed his
11th Eppie’s victory in less than one hour and 50 minutes.

DMV Issues Nearly
400,000 Licenses
to Undocumented
Applicants
SACRAMENTO REGION, CA (MPG)
- During the first six months
of implementing Assembly
Bill 60 (AB 60), the California
Department of Motor Vehicles
(DMV) has issued approximately 397,000 driver’s licenses
to undocumented applicants
who have met all requirements
necessary to enjoy driving privileges in California. This figure
represents more than half of the
total 759,000 original driver’s
licenses that have been distributed during the first half of 2015.
“The latest numbers reflect
the continued successful implementation of AB 60,” said
DMV Director Jean Shiomoto.
“The DMV was determined to
develop a process that would not
only meet the stringent requirements of this new law, but also
the unique needs of our newly
expanded customer base.”
Since the Safe and Responsible
Driver Act was implemented on
January 2nd, 2015, the DMV has
received approximately 687,000
AB 60 driver’s license applications. As part of the process,
applicants must prove their identity and California residency, as
well as meet all other licensing
requirements such as passing the
knowledge and behind-the-wheel
exams. Here is the approximate
number of tests administered
between January 1st, 2015 and
June 30th, 2015:
• AB 60 Knowledge Test:
1,116,000
• AB 60 Drive Test: 436,000
• Statewide Knowledge Test:
2,324,000, with 47% passing
and 53% failing
Last weekend, Eppie’s Great Race tested athletes from across the
nation. 1,300 cyclists turned bike trails into speedways (top photo).

Nevertheless, Cooper has
not wasted any time in getting
to work. “I’ve got a lot of bills
this year,” Cooper said, “but my
signature bill was AB 390, and
that’s the DNA bill.”
A former Sacramento County
Sheriff’s Department captain
with 30 years in law enforcement, Cooper introduced AB
390 to fix an unintended consequence of Proposition 47. The
proposition passed in November
of last year and reduced some
felonies, mostly drug and theft
crimes, to misdemeanors. Since
DNA is collected only on felony
offenses, the DNA database has
taken a big hit.
“What I proposed in that bill
is that if you are convicted of a
misdemeanor on those crimes,
to go ahead and give me a DNA
sample,” Cooper said. The bill
sailed through the Assembly,
Cooper said, in a 70 to 2 vote,
but it got stuck in the State
Senate in the Public Safety
Committee, where it went down
4 to 3.
“I am disappointed that four
committee members failed to
see that DNA evidence is an
essential tool for district attorneys to convict the guilty and
exonerate the innocent,” Cooper
said. The bill will be reconsidered next year and Cooper
expressed his hope that it will
eventually pass.
Cooper admits that compromise is sometimes necessary.
“A big part of leadership, too,
is sometimes you’re expected
to vote a certain way, but I don’t
always drink the Kool-Aid,”
Cooper said. “So I kind of do
my own thing sometimes but it’s
been good. It’s good to see the
work of the legislature.”
During his law enforcement
career, Cooper put in nine years
in undercover narcotics and
gang work. “My passion has
always been kids, even before I
had kids, and one of the reasons

Battle of the DIY Pizzas: Pieology vs. Blaze

Ladies and gentlemen, today we will
witness a contest between two mighty
fast-fired pizza chains. Both are contending for Rancho Cordova’s business,
opening mere months and 1.2 miles
apart.
On the Rancho Cordova side of
Sunrise Boulevard, in Rivergate
Shopping Center (2350 Sunrise) and
wearing olive green trunks and a white
shirt, is Pieology. Born in 2011 and out
of Rancho Santa Margarita, Pieology
claims to make pizza come to life with
an artisan’s touch, using a delicious variety of fresh quality toppings, homemade
crusts, and signature sauces, and baked
to perfection in about three minutes.
On the Gold River side of Sunrise
Boulevard, in the Gold River Town
Centre (2137 Golden Centre Lane) and
wearing orange trunks and a white shirt,
is Blaze Pizza. Born in 2011 and out of
Pasadena, Blaze claims to make pizza
with exceptional quality at lightning-fast
speed using fresh made-from-scratch
dough, healthful, artisanal ingredients
on the assembly line, then fast-fired to
perfectly crisp perfection in about three
minutes.
Today we’ll see punches powered by a
culmination of multiple dine-in and takeout visits to each restaurant. Although
both places sell salads and a signature dessert, at least food-wise, fighters
must keep their eye not on the tiger but
the pizza. I mean, who goes to In-N-Out
for the lemonade? Price, process, and
pleasantries also are paramount for these
pitting pizza places.
We welcome our pay-per-chew audience on ESPN (Economical and Speedy
Pizza Network) for this six-round fight.
Let’s get ready to crumble!!!
Round 1: Price
Each quasi-Italian Stallion is in the
center ring, jabbing with signature pizzas
and build-your-own pies with unlimited
toppings. Pieology might have Blaze
against the ropes, advertising that its
personal-sized pizzas are 11½ inches,
which would be a half-inch larger than
its rival and, based on size alone, justify a 20-cent difference ($7.95 versus
$7.75). But Pieology misses with a left
as four pies made on two separate days
had wingspans of between 10 and 11
inches, never reaching the touted diameter. Low blow! Two more low blows,
but of the good kind, are direct hits to
the wallet. You can actually go cheaper
at either place; a pie with mozzarella and
red sauce costs $5 at Blaze and $6.95
at Pieology. There’s the bell. Although
price isn’t everything, Round 1 goes to
Blaze.
Round 2: Crust
Both fighters are coming out weak in
this critical round. A pie baked for three
minutes isn’t going to have stellar crust,
no matter how sophisticated the oven is.
Based on lowered, more realistic expectations, Blaze’s edges are superior—a
crisp, lightly charred exterior—while
the interior of Pieology’s pies is more
evenly baked, making for slightly sturdier slices. Still, depending on the type
and weight of the toppings, chances
are your slice will not hold up between
carton and mouth. Both accommodate
requests for more fire but at the sacrifice
of those lightly charred edges. Whether
it’s a dough thing or a heat thing, there’s
no excuse for having mushy middles.
You get the same result even when adding only dry toppings. Maybe both
should throw in the towel when it comes
to crust, or get a better trainer. Round 2
is a draw.
Round 3: Ingredients and Taste
The boxers are tangled up. The variety
of sauces, cheeses, meats, and toppings
for custom-made pies is awesome at
both. Differences are subtle, but notable. Blaze works a jab to the body with
a tasty spicy red sauce, but add-ons to
the house red at Pieology can match the
flavor. The chicken morsels at Pieology
taste more natural and fresh. Blaze offering ovalini mozzarella and goat cheese is
a nice touch. Blaze doesn’t have cilantro or corn, but lands a solid right with a
menu of signature pizzas more extensive
than the list of “Pieologist’s Favorites” at
the competition. Taste of all pizzas from
both places is quite good for a pie made
in the time it takes to brush one’s teeth.
Overall, Pieology had more flavor, but
better edges at Blaze even things out.
Round 3 is a draw.
Round 4: Hospitality
On multiple visits to each place, a
friendly welcome was received at both.
But Pieology’s assembly line workers have the other guys on the ropes by
being more obliging about loading on
the toppings. During one dine-in visit,
four Pieology workers came by our table
to ask if everything’s great and if we
needed anything. At Blaze, only once out
of four dine-in visits did someone come
by our table. Smiles and energy ooze at
Pieology. In fairness, Blaze has several
months on the other guys, so perhaps

one can’t expect a full-grown dog to
be as spry as a puppy. Round 4 goes to
Pieology.
Round 5: Ordering and Pick-up
This is where the fighters show the
biggest difference in style, at least based
on this judge’s experiences. Not once
was building my own pie a perfectly
smooth experience at Blaze. Workers
seem to step over each other when
it’s busy; and once when it wasn’t, an
employee abruptly walked away before
the saucing stage, leaving my wife and
me to stand there like dopes for a minute
before someone from the back rescued
us. One time my son’s pizza came out
burnt, and the Blaze workers were anything but apologetic. Two employees
were observed rolling their eyes over
the problem, among other displays of
smugness. Over at Pieology, which has
virtually the same assembly-line system,
things are run more like a well-oliveoiled machine. Pick-up is more dignified
at Pieology, too. They give you a number
whether you’re dining in or taking out.
When the pizza is ready, they find you
with food in hand. At Blaze, you need to
stand around until they call your name
and the type of pizza you ordered. When
busy, the yelling can be downright grating. Blaze takes a clean hit to the head
and backs into the corner. Round 5 goes
to Pieology.

Round 6: Environs
Gold River Town Centre is more
upscale than Rivergate Shopping Center,
so Blaze gets in a solid punch. Eating al
fresco is nicer at Blaze unless you fancy
a view of concrete and cars instead of an
artsy water fountain and cars. Parking
is a challenge for Pieology customers,
no thanks to a crazy layout that makes
Scooter’s Coffee an obstacle with traffic
flow. Pieology lands a hard hit businesswise with much better street visibility.
And there’s the final bell. Round 6 goes
to Blaze.
The Decision
Now that both fighters are in their
respective corners awaiting the judge’s
decision, let’s take a minute to address
the elephant in the ring. Pieology, Blaze,
and the other “DIY” pizza players do
for quality pizza what Subway did for
the New York-style hero sandwich and
Chipotle for authentic Mexican burritos.
For my pizza fixes, give me an hour’s
wait at Chicago Fire any day. However,
when you don’t have the time or money
for your favorite fine dining pizza place,
how cool it is to satisfy a hankering in
mere minutes and for a few bucks?
Plus, Blaze and Pieology are so darn
convenient.
OK, the scorecard has been tallied. In
a close and competitive fight, the winner is Pieology. Food-wise, it’s a draw;
better customer service and a smoother
assembly line at peak times were the
deciding factors.
I smell a rematch. And hot pizza. H

world you see a lot of abuse,”
Cooper said. “So that kind of
fed my passion. I got involved
in kids’ sports and charities, and
I did that for quite a number of
years.”
Malvero Woods, who was on
the Cordova High School football team with Cooper, liked his
emphasis on youth.
“I like the fact that he is so
committed to giving back to the
children, making sure that children go down the right path,”
Woods said. “I guess his experience in law enforcement has
allowed him to see things that
most people don’t see.” Woods
now works for the Franchise Tax
Board.
Cooper grew up in Rancho
Cordova and returned recently
for a Sports Hall of Fame event.
“I got to see a lot of my coaches
from high school,” Cooper said.
“I got to thank them for what
they did for me. It’s good to
do that, because I would not be
where I am without them.”
Also present at the luncheon
was Phoebe Austin, who graduated the same year as Cooper
from Cordova High School and
is now assistant to Elk Grove
City Councilman Darren Suen.
She liked Cooper’s acknowledgment of the influence of
his teachers and coaches. “It’s
amazing to acknowledge that
you didn’t just do it all on your
own, you had a lot of help and
influences as a youth,” Austin
said.
In the past, Rancho Cordova
was a military town, and
Cooper’s father—who was in
the Air Force—came to Rancho
Cordova when his son was an
infant. Cooper finished his early
schooling through high school
there. He later graduated from
West Point Leadership Academy
and FBI National Academy,
and earned a Master’s degree in
organizational leadership from
St. Mary’s College.
“Rancho Cordova’s past
provided a rich tradition,”
Cooper said. “We’re all Rancho
Cordova products. It was a great
school system, everything was
great about Cordova; it still is.
And that really made me who I

Splish Splash Summer
Fun at the Aquatic Center

How many times have you
driven near or bicycled past that
lake located on Hazel Avenue
just off of Highway 50? This
is Lake Natoma, home to the
Sacramento State Aquatic
Center, a facility that opened in
1981 and is open to the general
public, but is the best-kept secret
for water recreation activities
in the area. Perhaps residents
believe it is a private facility
only to be used by Sacramento
State faculty and students, but let
me tell you, they are missing one
quality aquatic venue.

Center, and she pointed to the
many photos she has accumulated over the years of people
who have taken classes in water
safety and now have gone on

in boating safety, but in learning the teamwork and leadership
skills that are also taught at the
Aquatic Center. The Center
employs a small full-time staff

There are water activity programs for all ages and abilities
at the Aquatic Center, and if
you are afraid of the water, the
Aquatic Center staff is available
to assist you in conquering that
fear. If you have ever wanted to
sail or kayak, here is your chance
to learn in an atmosphere dedicated to teaching you the proper
techniques and, above all, how
to be safe on the water. Cindi
Dulgar, associate director of the
Sacramento State Aquatic Center
and veteran water enthusiast,
told me about an eight-year-old
girl who took a boating safety
class from her many years ago.
The girl remembered her safety
ees. Many are students from
Sacramento State who have an
interest in outdoor recreation.
Cindi mentioned that the
Aquatic Center is very affordable for a family to enjoy, and
they see families from “all walks
of life.” I asked Cindi to name
some of the major reasons why
people enjoy recreation at the
Aquatic Center, and she said,
“There is no pressure or competition to learn how to kayak;
you go at your own pace.” The
facility also has meeting rooms,
birthday party packages available for the general public, and a
barbecue area. It is a beach party
right here in the Sacramento

region without having to go to
the coast.
Some of the opportunities
available include basic windsurfing, basic sailing, basic
kayaking, river kayaking, basic
canoeing, and stand-up paddling. There are special events
such as the Sunset Paddle, or
if that is too late in the evening
for you, then try the Breakfast
Club that launches at 6 a.m.! The

Measure H Funds:
Overhead Street Signs

I came up with this idea on
April 11th, 2015, my mother’s
birthday, and had been thinking
about it for some time. We need
a way to let people from other
communities and tourists know
the name of our city and that we
are proud of our community and
its history.
The idea would be quite simple. You install two steel or
metal poles, much like a flag
pole, on each side of two main
streets running into the city’s
outer boundaries of Rancho
Cordova. These streets would
be Sunrise Blvd. and Folsom
Blvd. The decision on where to
place the poles would be up to
the city planners, but it would be
best on each end of these main
boulevards as you enter the city
boundaries. The poles would
be designed to hang two large
white canvas signs from small
steel cables, one above the other.
The top sign would have large
red and black letters spelling out
“Welcome to Rancho Cordova
– All American City of Gold
Since 2003.”
The bottom sign would only
be put up for special events,
such as the 4th of July event
and California’s greatest Paper
Mache Contest and Festival!
You haven’t heard of that one?
You will! The cost for the signs
would be small compared to the
community pride, tourism, and
maybe a boost to our jobs and
economy. Let’s get started on
this one now!

California Jobless Claims
Rise by Nearly 3,000
- As of July 9th, the number of
people filing new jobless claims
across the country increased by
15,000 to 297,000, according to
a weekly report from the U.S.
Department of Labor. California
saw an increase in new claims.
The four-week moving average was 279,500, or an increase
of 4,500 from the previous week.
The number of people claiming
unemployment was 2.15 million, an increase of 758 from the
previous week. In comparison,
there were 2.47 million people
claiming jobless benefits at this
same time last year.
California reported an increase
in new claims of 2,930. The state
attributed the change to layoffs
in the service industry.

Locals Compete at Dusty Baker Baseball Camp

RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) -
There were 82 boys between the
ages of 13 to 17 who converged
onto the Cordova High School
varsity baseball field to take
part in the Dusty Baker Baseball
Camp this week.
Former Cordova High School
varsity baseball coach Guy
Anderson, who served as the
Lancers’ skipper for 42 years
and is second among winning
high school baseball coaches
in California, was one of the
coaches at the camp.
Bruce Carmichael serves as
general manager and director of operations for the camp.
Carmichael is a former Major
League Baseball player who
played for the Chicago Cubs. He
has coached at baseball academies and clinics for the last 30
years. He has also coached high
school and college baseball.

Carmichael worked with

Carmichael threw pitches and
Anderson watched and worked
with the players’ batting stance.
“Absolutely fun,” said
Anderson about working with
the kids. “You’re just coaching
and teaching the kids on how to
play the game and how to appreciate it. This week has been
real good. The kids are here to
learn.”
On the other side of the
Lancers’ field, there were other
groups of players who were
learning how to bunt and hitting
off tees.
“I think the fun part of this
camp is hitting,” Anderson said.
“And I think that they think the
same thing. We’re trying to show
the importance of drills and the

importance of practice.”
The two coaches also worked
with the players on defensive drills such as fielding and
throwing.
“It’s a challenge to hit the
ball and to get the guy out,”
Anderson said. “But let’s have
a good time while we’re doing
(the drills).”
Along with Anderson and
Carmichael, there have been
many former MLB players who
have stopped by the camp this
week to work with the diamond
players, including the former
MLB player and manager for
whom the camp is named after.
“It’s been fun,” Anderson said.
Other former MLB players at
the camp were Bob Oliver, a hitting instructor who played with
the Kansas City Royals and New
York Yankees.
“He’s got a wealth of information on hitting,” said Anderson
of Oliver.
Former MLB designated
hitter Lloyd Mosby joined

Steinback, pitcher Jim Barr, and
catcher Clint Brill. All men lived
in the Sacramento region before
they reached the MLB levels.
The camp conclusion included
a pizza party and awards ceremony at a Rancho Cordova hotel
for players and their families. H

followed a six-mile route to
the Guy West Bridge near
California State University.
Here, the bike transition initiated a 12-mile pedal to the
beach below Sunrise Boulevard
Bridge. Boarding kayaks and
braving the San Juan Rapids,
the competitors followed the
American River downstream
to celebrations at River Bend
Park in Rancho Cordova. An
estimated 4,000 supporters and
1,000 volunteers cheered participants throughout the event’s
three stages.
In 42 years, the triathlon
has raised more than one million dollars to aid programs for
Sacramento County Therapeutic
Recreation Services. “Eppie
loved the activities it provides
for disabled people,” said a race
spokesperson. “And he loved
this race. It was his baby.” H
Love May be Blind, But Familiarity Can Breed Contempt
We met up with an old friend
last week who does love his
sports, but is not into them to
quite the same extent as we
are here. He loves his college
basketball to no end, making
it a point each season to take
some time off from work to be
particularly reclusive during
the NCAA Men’s Basketball
Tournament.
He can’t stand professional basketball—the
egomania, the outrageous level
of money-grubbing, and the
top-star-driven nature of the
sport are so much that he can’t
be convinced that granting it
any of his attention is a worthwhile endeavor. That, and he
has limited interest in football
beyond his alma mater, Cal.
Go, Bears!
As for baseball, he has
always liked the Giants,
but leaned more toward the
Oakland A’s since that franchise’s historic dynasty in the
early ’70s. (We all loved them
then). Our friend’s allegiances
are undergoing a gradual shift
that has been picking up speed
as of late because he can’t
stand what the hell has been
going on in Oakland in recent
years. (None of us can).
Every tuned-in baseball fan
is well aware of the Oakland
A’s modus operandi through
recent seasons under the
scrooge-like, current billionaire ownership—sell/trade
high, stay cheap, take advantage of revenue-sharing, cash
in as much as possible, don’t
bother fixing the plumbing
because we’re not sure we’re
going to be sticking around.
(Granted, at least that keeps
A’s games as the most affordable option among the choices
in the Bay Area). We want to
love them, too. But enough,
already! We’re mad as hell
and we don’t want to take it
anymore!
Discussing the Giants, the
topic of the announcing team
came up. All loyal “gamers”
just adore the Kruk and Kuip
duo (the down-home Dwayne
Kuiper and the sentimental Mike Krukow). But our
friend “can’t stand” Krukow,
and he’s not that crazy about
Jon Miller either. That screams
of blasphemy; but, after some
thought, maybe our prospective convert has some good
points.
How many of us dedicated
viewers cringe every time
that Kruk tells us who is “in
the squat?” How many use
the DVR to skip quickly past
the introductory bit about the
pitchers and what they throw—
too impatient for the game to
actually start—rather than listening to, “he has a fastball,
88-92; he throws a four-seamer
and a two-seamer that moves
in on the right-handers and
away from the left-handers; he
has a slider and a curve; and
he’ll throw anything at any
time,”? And what about all of
that “back-spinning it right out
of here” business? Are the hitters intentionally doing that?
Wouldn’t they do it every single time if they could? Or are
they just trying with all they’ve
got to just make some kind
of contact with that hard little projectile that’s coming at
them in the blink of an eye at
almost 100 miles per hour, all
the while trying to make sure
it doesn’t strike some exposed
part of the body because the
part might break? (Don’t rub
it).
We day-to-day gamer dudes
and babes have come to blindly
love our guys, but if we open
our eyes to our deeper feelings
we may realize we do have
some contemptuous regard for
certain familiarities.
Kuip is another story.
Everybody just loves him
and thinks that he is simply the best. He’s got that
low-key, witty style along
the lines of the old favorite, Hank Greenwald, who
broadcasted for the Giants for
two stints, ’79-’86 and ’89’96. Kuip’s home run calls
are top-notch. But, you know
what, surely you’ve noticed
that our beloved Kuip sometimes makes the silliest of
mistakes, including screwing up names. Remember the
former pitcher Roy Halliday?
That was HALLIDAY, Kuip,
not HOLIDAY! Ugh!
We agreed with our friend
that Jon Miller can come off
like a Mr. Know-it-all on the
television side of things (probably from spending too much
time around Joe Morgan),
but suggested that the Hall of
Famer’s style is more suitable
and much more entertaining on
the radio side. His storytelling
and descriptive abilities weave
into the fabric of the companionship between the radio
broadcast and the listeners
more easily than his techniques
connect with TV viewers.
As for the fourth amigo,
Dave Fleming, the young (39)
Swiss-army knife broadcaster,
he’s still too young to be universally loved, or not (he did
go to Stanford), even though
he’s been with the Giants since
2004 and has been on many
historical calls. Maybe that’s
because he’s so slick and welltrained and has split duties
with ESPN, college football
and basketball, and the NBA
and the Little League World
Series. He’s not “all-Giantsall-the-time,” and not as cute
and cuddly as the older guys.
Despite all that, he’s really
good.
We can quibble and criticize the faults and the
“homer-isms” of our fabulous
foursome. There can be some
minor issues with how they
paint the Giants’ picture from
time to time (easily overlooked
when the team is winning), but,
as we told our friend, we’re
really, really lucky to have
them.
If you have paid any attention to sports highlights from

it good around here.

On-the-Job Training Increases, Employment Pool Shrinks
- Employee retention, quali-
fied applicants, and specialized
skills are motivating more
in-house training and opportunity in the Sacramento area.
Internships and probationary
and apprenticeship programs are
growing as the pool of skilled
workers shrinks. For several
quarters, an increasing number
of Sacramento’s top regional
companies have noted growing
problems with finding enough
qualified applicants (those with
specific, often technical skills)
and keeping the employees
currently on the job. Falling
unemployment, recovery from
recession years, and an aging
workforce are thinning the formerly large numbers applying.
Pacific Staffing discovered a
“back to the future” approach
when polling local companies,
finding a vast majority (76%)
report having existing or now
using more on-the-job training
in meeting specific workforce
needs in hiring.
Sacramento regional employers were asked, “Is it time for
employers to open work to entry
levels and train on the job for
specific proprietary needs?”
Just 23% didn’t have or support
on-the-job training, while 1%
didn’t answer. The apprentice
or “old school” approach to filling employment needs has never
gone completely out of style
with Sacramento regional companies. As some HR contacts
noted when surveyed directly
between May 19th and June
19th, 2015, a policy to recruit
from local sources and train
within the company for specific
skills also reaps greater loyalty
and individual company and
geographic identity.
The Sacramento employment
trend continues to rise in the
third quarter of 2015 with 67%
of companies planning to hire
in July, August, and September;
17% of demand was attributed to seasonal needs in the
next three months. Workforce
expansion continues to rise
Sacramento Region Bank Robber Caught
- Sacramento Sheriff Robbery
Detectives have made an arrest in
the bank robbery series that began
on July 1st, 2015.
Detectives reached out to the
public to request their assistance
in identifying the female suspect connected to five recent bank
robberies that occurred within
various financial institutions on
Manzanita Avenue, El Camino
Avenue, Fair Oaks Boulevard, and
Kiefer Boulevard in Sacramento.
Detectives immediately received
tips from the public directing
them to several individuals; however, detectives were able to
identify and confirm Sacramento
resident Dominique Marie Polani,
22, as the bank robber. A warrant
for her arrest was obtained and
she was captured outside of the
Northern California area on July
17th. Polani was booked into the
Sacramento County Main Jail on
robbery charges, where she is currently being held on $500,000 bail.
Sheriff Robbery Detectives

this robbery suspect and spreading the word on social media.

you have a Microsoft Windows computer and want to learn how to use it?
Senior Computer School offers
computer classes exclusively for
Seniors. Core courses include Computer Fundamentals, Word Processing, Internet, and Excel. Each of
these classes is six 2 ½ hour sessions,
which meet either in the morning or
afternoon on MWF or TTH.
The cost for these core courses is
$30 total for all 6 sessions. The cost
includes lessons/manuals. Additional
one or two 2 ½ hour session workshops
are offered for $5 per workshop.
Workshop titles include: Digital
Cameras, Computer Maintenance,
E Bay, Greeting Cards, Downloading,
Windows 7, Storage and Backup
Files, Flash Drives, etc, and Database.
Senior Computer School is a
non-profit organization staffed by
volunteer instructors, assistants, and
office staff. We train 40-60 students
every month with 8 to 16 students in
each class. Step by step instructions
are conducted with clearly written
lessons. There is no need to take
notes as the lessons are provided
for you to keep after each session.
Assistants provide individual help,
as needed during each session.
