ell I don’t know
either! That is, when
will the economy start
the turn around? Over the past
couple of weeks I have listened
to two economist talk about
the state of the economy. Like
everyone else in our business I’m
very interested to know when
construction will rebound. One
of the economist said residential
construction will begin recovery in
the 4th quarter of this year while
the other said it would be the
middle of 2010. Let’s face it no
one really knows. We just need
to keep working harder every day
and hope for the best. But in these
dark days there is sunshine on the
horizon…and it’s EIFS!
advance EIFS. This change allows
EIMA to utilize many of AWCI’s
resources. The team will further
strengthen the foundation of EIFS
growth.
Even with non-residential business
slowing down, the image and the
future of EIFS is getting brighter.
In 2008 EIFS gained national
building code recognition. EIFS
also completed a research project
with the US Department of Energy
which showed EIFS out performed
other claddings.
EIMA believes there is great
opportunity to push the energy
performance of EIFS and to
take advantage of the interest
in energy conservation. Based
on this, EIMA has formed a
new committee to lobby the
government promoting the energy
saving attributes of EIFS. While
this movement may be new to
our country, EIFS has been part
of the national building codes in
A bright side of the new
administration is the attention
focused on energy conservation.
This is where EIFS is the ideal
answer. What better way to
conserve energy than to improve
the insulation of our buildings.
Remember it was only a few
months ago that gasoline was
over $4.00 a gallon. If it returns
to that level, and some experts
believe it will, the energy
conservation movement will gain
even more momentum.

Germany for many years. It has
recently become part of national
building codes in other European
countries. Just this year, Ireland is
requiring EIFS for renovation of all
government buildings.
EIFS is celebrating its 40th year
in the US market and it looks like
we have come full circle. EIFS
was introduced to this country as
an energy conservation product
but over the years aesthetics,
versatility and cost have become
the leading reasons for using EIFS.
Going forward, it looks like energy
conservation will once again
become the primary reason for
using EIFS. Add this to its other
attributes and we have a great
opportunity to grow our market
share even in a down market.

E
ffective March 2, 2009, all
10418 (dark tint base) pails
will be shipped with red
lids. This change impacts all finishes
and coatings. The 10401 (light base)
will continue to ship with white lids.

This change is being made based on
customer feedback and our intention
is to provide an easier way to
distinguish between light and dark
bases in the warehouse and on the
jobsite.
