Tom Schoener was (re)united with Rod Houck at the Arthritis Show in July. Tom purchased his 1960 Invicta Convertible from Rob in 1988 via a series of phone calls. Tom and Rod had never formally met until this past summer. While traveling in Zürich Switzerland, Winston and Brian Stone spotted a ‘64 Riviera. The owner’s only complaint was... getting genuine Buick parts. Congratulations to Bill and Beth Griffin on their retirement. John and J.D. Westphall, the Stones, Kromers, Books, Clarks, and the Goldenbogens attended the BCA Nationals in South Bend, Indiana. Gary’s 1999 Riviera and Brian’s 1964 Riviera both received awards. A great afternoon with the Fields’ 2 S Moving Forward.... to Preserve Buick’s Past The BHA gratefully acknowledges the generosity of the late Terry B. Dunham. Over the course of 50 years, Mr. Dunham collected and preserved an unrivaled collection of Buick literature, documents and artifacts. Through the efforts of the BHA, Buick enthusiasts everywhere will be able to enjoy and benefit from Mr. Dunham’s collection. The BHA welcomes donations from anyone of Buick literature, manuals, books, documents and memorabilia. Donating to the BHA ensures that your cherished Buick items will be safely protected and properly preserved. But most importantly, donating your items to the BHA ensures their availability and benefit to all Buick enthusiasts. January Event Sunflower Chinese Restaurant. Contrary to my announcement at the Christmas Party, the date is now Thursday January 23. 6:30pm cocktails, dinner at 7:00pm. New Location We are going to the Sunflower Chinese Restaurant at 7370 Sawmill Road (764-7888). We have their private party room reserved for 20–25 people. The Sunflower is about 1 mile north of the I-270 exit on Sawmill on the corner of a small shopping center on the right side of Sawmill before the Hard Road intersection. We were there many years ago and are going back. The construction at I-270 and RT 23, along with the traffic congestion around Polaris and Lazelle Road at the dinner hour, made getting to The Ming Flower difficult. The cost and what the club will cover is still open, but individual costs should be around $12 per person or less. Dues are welcome for those who have yet to remit them. No RSVP is needed. New Location Sunflower Chinese Restaurant 7370 Sawmill Road. 6:30pm Next up? We currently are looking for chapter members to help out and plan the February and March meeting for the club. As of right now we do not have anything planned. If you have an awesome idea for a meeting on either of these months please contact Tom Kromer with your idea. 614.619.4952 <[email protected]> Chapter Dues Please pay your chapter dues at the next meeting or send a $20 check payable to Central Ohio Chapter BCA. Mail to: Central Ohio Chapter BCA Bill Griffin, Treasurer 1564 State Route 49 Arcanum, Ohio 45304 4 The Arthritis Show... Back in July, we had near perfect weather for the 31st Annual Arthritis Classic Auto Show and Cruise-in. Buicks from near and far showed up for Buick Show Within A Show. Tom Kromer organized the judges who selected the best representations from several classes. The show concluded with pizza and pop. Thanks to All Car Excellence for sponsoring the trophies. This was in partnership with the Central Ohio Oldsmobile Club. Some club members met for lunch at the Clifton Gorge Mill restaurant. If you have a chance, a visit will be well worth your time. Grandpa’s Garage is 4700 S. Charleston Pike, Springfield, OH 45502 Ahoy 7 Christmas Party 2013 The club closed out the year at the annual Christmas Party at LaScala. The food was very good with a choice of 3 main course dishes, numerous sides and a variety of deserts. Due to the weather some who signed up were not able to make it and were truly missed at what became a festive gathering. The performance of the music group Irish Fiddle Fetish was warmly entertaining and at the conclusion members of the high school group mingled for discussion with club members. After dinner there was a drawing for three donated gifts. The club has made a donation to the music group to aid them in their goal to visit Ireland. Tom Kromer laid out plans for 2014 and thanked Dana for organizing the Christmas Party. The club also made a significant donation to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. 8 Gahanna Auto Sales 1390 Holly Avenue • Columbus, OH 43212 Telephone: 614.294.8511 www.tritexcorp.com • • Fax: 614.294.4875 [email protected] Stephen’s Special Interest Autos Complete Collector Car Care Services 1728 Myrtle Ave • Columbus, Ohio 43211 Specializing in late model Buick & GM automobiles. We have nothing schedule after January. I tried to reach Sam for any minutes. I wasn’t able to connect with him. No treasurer’s report from Bill - they’ll miss the January meeting as they spend some time south in warmer weather. John Westfall and Larry Robinson I visited John today. He’s recovering from some mild strokes the past few weeks. He’s at Heartland of Marysville, 755 South Plum Street, Marysville OH, 43040. A card or note from his COCBCA friends would be appreciated Alice is at home. John hopes to get home soon. I spoke with Sabrina today as well. Larry had a bad case of pneumonia that required hospitalization. He’s back home and feeling better. Larry would enjoy a call to chat Buicks or anything new. We will also have the roster available for updating. I have the master from Roger Fields and will get an updated version out shortly after the January meeting. Attached is a photo on the 1965 Riviera barn find in Dublin. I sent a message about it to COCBCA members back in late October. It’s still out there. Interested members can call Dale Berlin 614.406.1795 for info or to see it. Asking / appraisal price is $2,500... a little stiff given the non-operating condition and some rust issues. I’ve also attached a picture of a 1973 Riviera I spotted at a pick and pull place in Grove Port back in the fall. The big 455 engine was gone, but the rest of the car was still there. You don’t see too many almost 40 year old cars sitting in active modern auto recycling yards too often. 10 Director’s Note —continued Two of the pictures are from Hershey 2013. One is a 1909 Buick I spotted in the Chocolate field - I don’t think it was for sale. The other is a 4x6 foot two sided Buick porcelain, dated march 1951, that came home with me! Last picture is a quiz - where was it taken? Hint - in the back yard of a car crazy guy who spent too much time playing with old cars and did not pay attention to the weather. :-) Tom Kromer 11 2992 Landen Farm Road E Hilliard, OH 43026-7198 Central Ohio Chapter of the Buick Club of America The Horn Fields’ garage More on the web at: http://www.centralohiochapter.com/ Classified 1926 Buick Master Six Sedan, Model 26-47.
