Lucky for Life will launch on Jan. 27, 2015. Lucky for Life is a $2 lotto game, drawn on Mondays and Thursdays, with a $1,000 a day for life top prize (20-year minimum) and a $25,000 a year for life second prize. Players choose (or quick pick) 5 out of 48 numbers, plus 1 number out of 18 for the “Lucky Ball.” Minnesota will be one of 14 lotteries to offer the game. Watch for more information about Lucky for Life to arrive in the coming month, including a Lucky for Life retailer incentive. Gopher 5 jackpot almost sets new record in November Heidelberger’s Rock Creek Motor Stop in Pine City earned a $5,000 bonus by selling the winning ticket for the $2,008,806 Gopher 5® jackpot that was won on Nov. 12. Store owner Dale Heidelberger, who also owns Heidelberger Auctions, said that all of his cattle buyers from Minnesota to Green Bay, Wis. know that his store sold the winning Gopher 5 ticket. He also noted that he has seen an increase in customer traffic at the store. Lottery Director Ed Van Petten presented Joyce Moore and her husband Richard with an over-sized check on Nov. 14 at Lottery headquarters in Roseville. The lucky winner, Joyce Moore of Northfield, was at work on Nov. 14 when she got a phone call from her husband, Richard, that she needed to come home “because we may have won some money.” Store clerk Tammy Hackett (right) sold the winning Gopher 5 ticket to Richard Moore of Northfield, who stopped at the store on the way home from his cabin. Store manager Katie Evenson is on the left. Richard said he stopped at Heidelberger’s as he was heading home from their cabin on Nov. 12 to buy some tickets and gas up his pickup. He put the tickets on the sun visor and didn’t think about them again until the morning of Nov. 14, when he checked them, discovered the Gopher 5 jackpot win and called Joyce at work. He wasn’t sure how much they won, but together they discovered the prize was $2,008,806—just short of the record jackpot of $2,032,201 won on Nov. 8, 2005. 1 The Curtis Convenience SA franchise based in Duluth offered The Walking Dead™ promotions in style! From the director by Executive Director Ed Van Petten Wow, did we get an early blast of winter? I never heard of a Polar Vortex until last year, and I’ve decided that I don’t like them. I just returned from a conference in Austin, Texas where the temperatures were in the upper 30s and low 40s most of the time, which to them is pretty cold. The native Texans were all bundled up, while most of us at the conference thought it was a nice warm break. As I am sure you have noticed, sales are a little slow for our new game, MONOPOLY Millionaires’ Club™. Please let us know if you have any thoughts on the game, or ideas to generate additional sales. I realize that when you first look at the game it appears to be quite complicated, and certainly is more complex than most games. However, in visiting with some players who have tried it, once you go through Retailer t Spotligh the process, it really is much easier than a player first thinks. We are really looking forward to the game show coming next year; the first drawing for players to go to Las Vegas has been done. We need to generate more sales so we can have more winners in the next round. We need more Minnesota members of the MONOPOLY Millionaires’ Club, and we would like more sales for you. Each ticket is another 25 cents for you. We had a lot of fun here with the great roll of Gopher 5 that ended Nov. 12, with Joyce Moore of Northfield winning the jackpot of $2,008,806. What a nice couple the Moores are. That money will really help out as they plan their retirement. A stop for gas and a $1 Gopher 5 ticket proved to be a lucky move for the Moores. Fall is a busy time here at the Lottery, especially this year. The launch of the MONOPOLY Millionaires’ Club lottery game and the launch of this year’s Raffle have all of us on the edge of our seats a little. We really want to see an increase in sales, and more profit for your bottom line. As you know, we have added 100,000 tickets to the mix, which includes ten $10,000 prizes and 4,000 $100 prizes. That’s a big increase in the number of prizes and we hope that it will help you to sell out the game even faster than last year. Let us know what you think about the changes that we have made to the game. I hope you have a very successful and safe holiday season. Thank you for all that you do for the Minnesota Lottery. Payless Gas in Shakopee Moudy Shabban, co-owner of Payless Gas in Shakopee, is constantly searching for any niche that he can gain when it comes to promoting lottery at his business. right in front of them and even if they’re not planning to play, they see those tickets and they end up trying a new game at the last minute. It’s good at changing people’s minds.” “He’s always looking for different ideas to help capture his audience,” explained Lottery sales representative Greg Knutson. “He does whatever he can to make his business more appealing for the locals.” “When people stop in, they are like, ‘Wow!’—they’re always impressed with the number of winners we sell,” said Shabban. Several customers think Payless Gas is a lucky hot spot and the winner posters may have something to do with that. “When they win and they see other people winning, it keeps them coming back here,” Shabban added. The most recent change was nearly doubling the number of scratch tickets he sells in the on-counter dispenser. “We carry 28 games now so we have more variety than anybody else,” said Shabban. “We get a lot of customers who come in here and are looking for a specific game that other retailers in the area no longer carry, so it keeps them coming back here.” Shabban added, “The bigger display is very visible to customers and it grabs everyone’s attention.” He says the large on-counter display encourages even non-players to grab a ticket. “The customers see all the tickets displayed It’s hard for a costumer to miss the on-counter scratch ticket display that features 28 games. In addition to the on-counter scratch ticket display, Shabban also maximizes winner awareness signage. “The winner awareness board is just huge,” explained Knutson. It displays the winner posters in a neat yet visible way.
