Glucose tabs...zip lines...singing...new
friends...color wars...what do all of these
things have in common? Camp Kudzu of course!
This week at camp, not only did everyone have
fun and learn how to better manage their diabetes, but new friendships were made. One of the
best ways to form a bond is through teamwork,
which is exactly what it takes in order to write
a newspaper. Throughout this week’s issue of The
Weekly Vine, you will laugh like you have never
laughed before as you get to see a glimpse how
Camp Kudzu has changed the lives of so many
campers while helping to form lifelong bonds.
An Improv Story
By: Cabin 16
One wonderful day,
there was a camp called
Camp Kudzu. At Camp
Kudzu, there are many
fun people and exciting
activities to do. There
are also so many fun
things to do! You can do arts and crafts, newspaper, and so much more! The lake is my favorite, especially the iceberg. You can go tubing
and write fascinating stories at newspaper. You
can make a lot of friends, unless you smell bad,
then you should shower. Then you can make
friends and do really fun things. Afterwards,
you can eat lunch. Then you can sing along to
the music in the mess hall. The campers get
along well with each other. They have a lot of
fun and make new memories with each other.

been infected with the granny
virus. This is very serious and is
very contagious. So, please stay
alert, if cabin 17 pinches both of
your cheeks, then immediately you
will become an old person. We are
not sure if there is a cure or not
but be on the lookout if you don’t
want to become an old person for
however long it may last. Scientist
Suzy Loo and her partner Wizzlewhit Dust are nowhere close
to finding a cure. The number of chances that you might get
it are every 1 out of 5 people will be attacked by the virus. Be on the lookout for any suspicious activity or people
with canes. Have a great kudzu day!

Do you know what a wombat is? A wombat is a
medium-sized, furry marsupial that weighs about
45 pounds. They are native to Australia and look
almost like a cross between a koala bear and a
beaver with a short tail. There was a popular
game going around camp this week known
simply as “the wombat game.” According to our
survey 61% of campers know how to play the
wombat game. Are you part of the group who
knows how to play the wombat game?
A Thief Among Us!
By: Cabin 32A
Shortly after Camp Kudzu began its
third session it was noticed that
several vials of insulin were
missing from the Med Lodge. By
Wednesday afternoon the Med Lodge
staff could not find any insulin
at all! At the same time, the
kitchen staff were reporting that
all of the chocolate chip cookies
were missing from the kitchen.
Where was the insulin? Where were
the cookies?! Upon investigation it was learned that Kinan and
Phil were stealing the cookies from the kitchen and the insulin from the Med Lodge. Why would they do such a thing? As it
turns out, the two were working late into the night in an effort to cure type 1 diabetes by combining insulin and cookies.
For years scientists have been searching for a cure. Who knew
the answer could be so simple? Cookies can cure diabetes!

The Adventures in Candy Land
By: Cabin 12
One day, Cabin 12 was in a really sticky, peanut buttery situation. All of the diabetes supplies in the world
were stolen and were being guarded by the Golden Gummy. First, they had to go through the Peanut Butter Lake that was infested with peanut butter sharks. The Kudzu Chief gave them magical, mystical, rare
tennis shoes that allowed them to cross the Peanut Butter Lake, however, they could only be used once
and they could not go back once they crossed the lake. They successfully crossed the Peanut Butter Lake
and then entered Cotton Candy Land. There they encountered the Cotton Candy Unicorn who shot cotton
candy out of its horn and covered Kija’s ears, Brooke’s eyes, and everyone else’s mouth. However, they
could not eat the cotton candy because it would kill them. Once they left Cotton Candy Land and entered
the Black Licorice Forest, the cotton candy fell off. In order to get to Gummy Bear Land, they had to use
the magic carpet, but the evil licorice fairies would not let them have it until they played the Black Fairy
Hula Death Game. If they won, they got the magic carpet, if they lost, they would be stuck in the Black
Licorice Forest forever! They entered the Fairy Circle and held hands, then they all had to cross through
the Black Licorice Hula Hoop. They barely won the game and the evil fairies reluctantly gave them the
magic carpet. From there they flew to Gummy Bear Land. They left the carpet behind in order to sneak up
on the Golden Gummy Bear but they encountered gummy bears riding sour gummy worms! They fought
the gummy bears and then licked all the sour off in order to tame the gummy worms, but it made their
blood sugar go way above target. They then rode gloriously to the Gummy Castle but they struggled because of their blood sugar levels. As they were walking up the stairs, Dedra fell, alerting the Golden Gummy Bear of their presence. Dedra told them to go on without her but there was no way that Cabin 12
would leave one of their own behind, so they carried her. The Golden Gummy Bear then started shooting
sour patch kids, one of which hit Jasmine. Yanna then leaped out in front of everyone and ate all of the
sour patch kids! Destiny and Kiera then made a crutch for Jasmine out of Twizzlers. Everyone then encircled the Golden Gummy Bear and said, “We’re going to eat you, or die trying!” Then they leapt on to him
and ate all 10 feet of him! Then they retrieved their pump supplies. Then, in the blink of an eye, they returned to their group initiatives activity at Camp Kudzu and went on with their day. (Story loosely based
on real events)

Lean On Me
Love is
Sometimes in our Lives
We all have pain, we all have sorrow
But, if we are wise
We know that there’s always tomorrow
There’s nothing to hide and nothing to fear
Everything is crystal clear
No phony disguise, no faces to wear
There is nothing we cannot share
‘Cuz I am at ease when I am with you
I know love is gonna see us through
Chorus
Lean on me when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on
For (FIVE!) it won’t be long (SHORT!)
‘Til I’m gonna need (ELBOW!) somebody to lean on
Please, swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you won’t let show
You just call on me, brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you’ll understand
We all need somebody to lean on
If there is a load
You have to bear that you can’t carry
I’m right up the road, I’ll share your load
If you just call me
Chorus
Love is higher than the mountains
Love is deeper than the oceans
Love is wider than the miles between you and
me
Love is stronger than a freight train
Love is faster than a jet plane
Love is bigger than the troubles that we’ll ever
see
We’re never apart, we’re never alone
Love is closer than the telephone
No wall is too high, no distance too great
That love would ever hesitate
‘Cuz we are the stage and love is the play
And the scene is just another day
Long is the day and dark is the night
I know love is gonna be our light
The valley is low, the desert is dry
But love will never die!
