Age-appropriate activities and a weekly theme will engage your junior or senior kindergarten child allowing them to explore their creativity, build friendships and develop skills. Campers spent a variety of time both indoors and in an outdoor setting. Campers will also participate in a thirty minute swim lesson each day facilitated by a certified YMCA Instructor-Lifeguard. This camp strives to offer an action-packed adventure and new experiences. Weekly themes, special guests, games, sports, songs, crafts and daily water activities challenge children to learn new skills, make new friends and create wonderful memories. Campers have an hour of swim time each day which is facilitated by a certified YMCA Instructor-Lifeguard. During the pool time, campers will have the opportunity to learn and practice the Lifesaving Society’s Swim to Survive Standard. Camp includes a half-day field trip each session. The Chaplin Family YMCA provides a fun, interactive and memorable camp experience to children with a variety of special needs—physical, developmental, emotional and/or behavioural. We request all campers demonstrate functional communication skills and independent mobility. Support workers are welcome to attend at no cost. Families are responsible for additional services. Campers may be limited to a one-week session and 2 spots are set aside. Each week campers will have the opportunity to experience canoeing, fishing, hiking, swimming and enjoying traditional camp games and activities. We will strive to provide a week of action-packed adventure while exploring the outdoors and having fun. Each morning campers will be grouped, when possible, according to age to provide age appropriate, safe and developmentally challenging activities. Heidelberg campers can be dropped off and picked up at both our Stork Family YMCA in Waterloo as well as the A.R. Kaufman Family YMCA in Kitchener. Each morning at 9:00 the campers are bussed from their home YMCA to our Heidelberg location just outside of Waterloo. Our large open field space, pavilion and forest area allows this older age group to explore the outdoors. Campers are bussed back each day to their home YMCA for an hour of swim time. The swim is monitored carefully by our counsellors and YMCA certified instructor-lifeguards. Thursday night Families are invited to a fun-filled campfire and optional camper sleepover. If your child chooses not to sleepover they can simply be dropped off at the YMCA in the morning as usual. Site Camp Heidelberg Bus leaves at 9:00 am from A.R. Designed to interest youth ages 10 – 12, Camp Plus participants will venture off-site daily to explore community attractions with possibilities to include: bowling, rock climbing or a trip to the driving range. In addition, campers will participate in a daily selection of sports, team-building challenges, games, arts and crafts. During the pool time, campers will have the opportunity to learn and practice the Lifesaving Society’s Swim to Survive Standard. Gain valuable leadership skills, including team building and communication while learning games and activities to teach when volunteering or working in a day camp setting. This certificate is required in order to volunteer at any Chaplin Family YMCA Day Camp. This camp also includes a SafeGuard certification. This program is a great addition to any resume, especially for those looking to work or volunteer with children and youth. The Safeguard course focuses on water safety awareness, accident prevention, and the principles of aquatic safety. It provides safety supervision training for guardians i.e. day camp counsellors and counsellors in training. Valid Police Vulnerable Sector Check required for participation in this program. Kaufman Family YMCA and Stork Family YMCA is to help teens build confidence and self-esteem, while developing skills required of a leader within the YMCA and our community. Participants are required to take Level 1 followed by Level 2 of the Educational Program before moving onto the Practical Program. Leadership is best developed by spreading Level 1, Level 2, and Practical portions over different years rather than participating in all three programs during one summer. LIA Level 1 Participants will be introduced to the YMCA’s history and values. Activities will focus on leadership techniques and problem-solving skills. Activities are meant to transition LIA Level 1 participants from campers to leaders. Activities will focus on conflict resolution, communication styles, working with children, building relationships and program safety. Site A.R. This session will focus more on planning full programs and facilitating camp wide activities for day campers. Participants will learn how to deliver age appropriate activities, while studying the principles of healthy child development, group dynamics and understanding behaviours. Self-reflection as well as feedback from peers and counsellors will help to build skills and give participants confidence in their leadership abilities. Site A.R. Participants who have completed the Leaders in Action Educational portion will have an opportunity to put their new skills and knowledge into practice. Participants will be paired with a counsellor for the duration of the week to assist with day to day program planning and facilitation of activities. Feedback from both a self-evaluation and the counselor will help to identify strengths and areas for continued development. This camp is a great way for youth to add valuable experience to their resumes and jump-start future volunteering opportunities at the YMCA. Participants are welcome to complete multiple weeks of LIA practical and will be placed with different age groups and camps based on their interest and previous experience. Site A.R. This drawing program is a fun, fast paced introduction to learn to digitally draw and colour fantastic art. More than just picture colouring! Learn the skills needed to become a digital illustrator step by step. Campers will spend the morning in specialty program on site at Chaplin followed by an afternoon of traditional camp activities, including games, crafts and swimming. This camp is a great opportunity for your children to explore and discover their creative side and enjoy a variety of recreational activities. Campers spend the morning at the Cambridge Centre for the Arts, with enthusiastic and professional visual art educators. Using a variety of drawing, painting and sculpture materials they will express their individuality through exciting art projects. In the afternoon campers will return to the YMCA for an afternoon of traditional camp activities, including games, crafts and swimming. Our experienced coaches will help teach your camper the fundamentals of baseball in this state-of-the-art, indoor practice facility. Bat, run, and throw like a pro after spending the week practicing in our batting cages, bullpens, and full-sized infield. Campers will be required to bring their own glove and all other equipment will be provided. Campers travel by bus to the PlayBall facility for the morning and return to the YMCA in the afternoon of traditional camp activities, including games, crafts and swimming. Playball! Site A.R. Come learn or review the basics with Olympic Bronze Medalist, Janet Cobbs Mulholland! Campers will learn how to bump, set, spike, serve, block, dig and last, but not least, team play on site at Chaplin followed by an afternoon of traditional camp activities, including games, crafts and swimming. Tournament play will be held on Friday in the gym, so family and friends are welcome to watch their camper in action. Cheer sport staff will introduce your child to stunting, tumbling, choreography and all elements of cheerleading. The instructors are qualified, USASF certified, and well trained to develop the beginner athlete or to advance the more skilled athlete. Classes are energetic, fun and a great way to experience cheerleading in our state of the art facility. Join us in your comfy shorts and t-shirts with indoor running shoes and hair tied back. In the afternoon campers will return to the YMCA for an action-packed afternoon of traditional camp activities, including games, crafts and swimming. Dress shoes can be worn for tap and ballet flats are optional. Dance camp will feature themed days based on different dance styles such as ballet, lyrical, contemporary, modern, jazz, and musical theatre. Classes are creative, dynamic, energetic, fun and a great way to learn dance techniques and meet new friends. Dance campers will spend half their day moving and dancing preparing for an end of the week performance for family and friends. The remainder of their day will focus on traditional camp activities including a swim. Come with us and discover the love of dance. No previous dance experience is necessary for campers. Site A.R. There is a different theme each week: Creaturemania, Eco-Explorer and Top 10 Nature List. Days will cover topics ranging from the birds in the air to the tiniest bug under a log. Campers will use binoculars, microscopes, compasses, nets and teacher creatures to help us experience nature in different ways. Campers will also learn about endangered species, the green roof, and some ways to survive in the wild through activities facilitated by Nature Centre staff. Campers travel by bus to spend the morning in specialty program on-site at Laurel Creek Nature Centre. Site A.R. The camp will be run by Wedges ‘N Woods Golf Academy for Cambridge (Monday to Thursday) and GolfNorth Professionals for Kitchener-Waterloo. KitchenerWaterloo campers will be bussed to Rebel Creek Golf Club (ARK) or Foxwood Country Club (Stork). Cambridge campers will walk to Wedges ‘N Woods and will be bussed to the golf club Friday morning. Campers spend the morning in the specialty and return to the YMCA for an afternoon of traditional camp activities, including games, crafts and swimming. FORE! Site A.R. SCE Hockey and it owner operator Steve Emmett, has been involved in teaching, mentoring, coaching for over 30 years throughout Canada/USA. SCE Hockey is dedicated to developing performance enhancing programs that focus on empowering new and experienced players with better skills, technique, and knowledge. SCE shows players how to build on their passion for the game and further develop their on-ice confidence. Accelerate your game! Personal attention will be given to each player to excel their skills throughout the week. Campers will travel by bus to the arena for the morning and return to the YMCA in the afternoon of traditional camp activities, including games, crafts and swimming. Site Chaplin Family YMCA and arena Ages 8 – 12 yrs Dates July 25 – 29 Fee Member Fee: $289; Non-member fee: $312 Aug. 8 – 12 Aug. 15 – 19 Horseback Riding Camp Cambridge campers learn to ride, have fun and make new friends with our horses at the JL Equestrian Centre. Activities will focus on equine care including feeding, bedding, grooming and health care. JL has carefully selected their horses; they use safe well maintained equipment in a clean facility with a qualified team. The week will wrap up on Friday morning with a riding demonstration, from 9:30 am – 11:30 am. Helmets are provided. Waterloo campers will rotate through three-45-minute long sessions in the morning on-site at Windamere Equestrian Centre’s spacious property working with qualified and experienced staff and horses. One session is riding where children receive individual attention aimed at their personal ability level. The second session is horse theory and barn chores. The third session will feature horse related games and crafts. Campers must bring their own bicycle or riding helmet. All riders MUST wear boots or shoes with a heel between 1”- 1½” (rubber boots acceptable) and jeans/ pants. Campers will return to the YMCA in the afternoon of traditional camp activities, including games, crafts and swimming. Join one of our YMCA lifeguards for a funfilled and wet week of learning the “ins” and “outs” of lifeguarding. Experience some daily lifeguarding routines such as: wearing a uniform, communication, blowing a whistle, hand signals, shadow guarding, making your own first aid kit, and taking a pool test. Campers spend the full day in program with a certified instructor-lifeguard on-site at the YMCA and have the opportunity to earn their Basic or Emergency First Aid and CPR certifications. In this one week camp, campers will learn how to create classic platform games in the style of Sonic, Zool, Super Mario, and Minecraft, which they will be able to take home and play with friends and family. This program will introduce basic computer programming skills needed to create moving characters in a platform game world! You don’t have to be an artist; you just have to be willing to try something new. Campers spend the morning at the Creations Art & Pottery Studio working on clay, glass and glazing techniques. Campers will also get 2 days to choose a piece of their choice. In the afternoon campers will return to the YMCA for an action-packed afternoon of traditional camp activities, including games, crafts and swimming. Equipment rentals are included. Campers will spend a half-day at Grand River Rocks and a halfday participating in traditional camp activities including games, crafts, and swimming at the YMCA. Scrapbooking offers the opportunity to create wonderful masterpieces to share with family and friends. This camp will teach the basics of scrapbooking. Campers will learn cropping, layouts and be given the opportunity to put their creativity and imagination to work. All campers will be provided with necessary supplies needed to create their individualized albums. Campers will be responsible for bringing pictures of themselves, their family and their friends that coordinate with the weekly theme. These camps are for children that love to sing and dream of becoming a star! In the morning, the campers will participate in traditional camp activities, including games, crafts and swimming. In the afternoon, we’ll explore different styles of singing, vocal range, and even how to approach professional singing, good stage presence, and even performance. Each camper will have a chance to record their very own CD to take home, as well as information on how to upload their performance to YouTube, etc. On Friday, the parents will be invited to attend an impromptu vocal performance put on by all the campers (to show off their new talents). Each morning, campers will be bussed to Riverside Park where they will receive instruction and encouragement from Cambridge Youth Soccer coaches. It will be an opportunity to learn soccer fundamentals—passing, shooting and dribbling, work on existing skills, then practice in a game situation. After a morning of soccer action, campers return to the YMCA for traditional camp activities, including games, crafts and swimming. All soccer players MUST wear shin guards. Soccer cleats are optional. If it is a rainy day campers will be bussed to the ComDev Soccer Dome. Parents are welcome to drop by the field any morning to check out the action. Come out and meet new friends and work on drills and endurance in our Swim, Bike and Run camp. On the last day of the camp, participants will be challenged to complete a mini triathlon within the facility, to showcase all of their hard work. Tennis Fun is pleased to partner with the YMCA to offer introductory Tennis Camp. Certified teaching pros from Tennis Fun will lead the kids through a variety of dynamic games, skills and challenges. Topics covered include ball control, tennis etiquette, fundamentals of the serve; serve return, forehand, backhand and volley, as well as basic score-keeping. During the morning the professionals will conduct lessons here at the YMCA. Running shoes, sunscreen, cap/visor and water are a must. Participants may bring their own racquets if they choose.
