TERM 1 WEEK 10 2015
PREPARATORY SCHOOL AGM
Dear Parents/Caregivers/Whanau
Here we are at the end of a busy and successful first
term and I am sure the girls are looking forward to their
holiday in order to recover from all the action that has
been packed in to the first weeks of our school year. Year 7
and Year 8 students enjoyed their Whenua-iti experience,
Summer Tournaments, Shakespeare competitions,
school athletics, swimming and goal setting have all been
part of the landscape of commitment and achievement
and I would like to congratulate all the girls on the
excellent attitude they have displayed and all that they
have participated in. I would like to encourage the girls
to continue in the positive way they have commenced
the year. We can look forward to many more successes in
the terms to come.
Preparatory School Incorporated
Society is scheduled to have its AGM
at 4pm on Thursday 7 May 2015.
This will be held in the Meeting Room
of the Main College.

INTERSCHOOL SWIMMING SPORTS
On Friday 21 March a group of girls who had
been selected from Prep represented our
school at Interschool Swimming. It was a
really enjoyable day and even though we had
some nerves, we came out with some great
results. Everyone enjoyed it and all the girls
did their best, making sure they swam right
to the end of the lane even if they were far
behind. Overall it was a fantastic experience
and we would love to do it again.

SHEILAH WINN COMPETITION
On Saturday 21 March at Nayland College, the after school drama groups performed various
Shakespeare scenes at the Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival. In the weeks leading up to
this event, Jo Price had thoroughly prepared us all for our performances, so that one the
day we could get up on the stage and do our best whilst still having fun.
The scenes that we performed were:
• A Midsummer Night’s Dream
• The Taming of the Shrew
• Merchant of Venice
• Much Ado About Nothing
The Preparatory School was successful and came home with four awards with
Danielle Smith winning the prize for Best Actor and Midsummer Night’s Dream
winning first place for the Under 15 minute scene. Much Ado about Nothing,
winning second place for under 5 minute scene.
All the groups had fun selecting costumes and getting into character when up on
stage. There is something magical about putting on our costumes. It almost feels like
it transforms us into another person. When we are all up on the stage, we are serious
and concentrate hard on putting on a good performance. Off the stage we have lots of
laughs and giggles and usually joke about how we look like an awful ‘male’.
We enjoyed it so much that we can’t wait until next year’s competition. I am sure we
will all be back.

KIDS LIT QUIZ
On Friday 20 March eight of us from Prep went to the Kids Lit Quiz at Nelson Intermediate. When we arrived we had to go into the
hall and find our table and then the organisers gave us a briefing about the rules. We weren’t allowed to use any devices or books to
help us. The Prep girls that were in the competition were, Kaylee Byrne, Alice Borlase, Charlotte Faulkner, Wren Fisher, Sophie McCarlie,
Heloise Hildreth, Maya Wooward-Leth and me.
We had to answer questions about Harry Potter, Weapons (we won that round), Princes and Princesses, Cats and many other characters
and books. We really enjoyed the event and would like to go again next year.

MOTORUA MISSION
Moturoa Mission is an orienteering race between school that is held at Rabbit Island with stations along the way
that we have to stop at that are all to do with the environment. The aim is stop at every station and complete the
tasks that are on the sheet and then get to the finish as fast as possible. The winner is the team with the fastest
time and the most correct answers.
When we arrived at Rabbit Island, we all had to meet at the checkpoint to get our maps and our food for the
day. Then we all listened to the rules and boundaries and were told where our starting point was. The primary
schools went first and then ten minutes later the intermediate schools went. We had two teams in the race, the
Motoring Moa - Sofie Hobbs, Sophie Manson, Olivia Smith, Holly Goulter and Laura Allen and then in the Gumboot Girls - Zara Collett, Sarsha Mytton, Wren Fisher, Charlotte Faulkner and Macy Kappely.
We all enjoyed the race. My favourite part was the X Factor bit at the end where we all got together in our teams
and had to make up a dance or song, or poem to do with the environment. The Gumboot Girls were in the top
three. It was a really good day, the weather was great and we all have fun. I would lke to do it again next year if I
am given the chance.
