A Team Built To Succeed
There are so many beautiful parks in your neighborhoods and we take great pride
in having the opportunity to maintain them. The citizens of Dallas have a dedicated
group of professionals working diligently to clean, mow, trim, plant and irrigate
over 374 parks, making your parks a place for fun! That group is the City of Dallas
Park and Recreation Department’s Park Maintenance Services Team.
As you may have noticed; dynamic changes are happening on Dallas parks. New
playgrounds, friendly activity pavilions, exciting spray-grounds, and beautiful
natural and wildflower areas pepper the landscape of your great city. We realize
parks are important to your quality of life, and we have committed ourselves to
making your parks safe, clean, beautiful and inviting. A dynamic stewardship plan
has been implemented to maintain your parks. Consistent mowing cycles, weekly
inspections of sprinkler heads, closely monitoring water ratios, and strong litter
campaigns all play a very important role in our efforts to maintain eco-friendly
natural spaces, but we need you.
With the assistance of neighborhood watch programs, home owner associations,
friends groups, youth organizations, corporate partners, and great volunteers, your
Parks will be even greater! We welcome and appreciate your suggestions or
comments. If you notice something that presents itself, prior to our weekly park
inspections, or you would like to share a fantastic idea, please contact us at
www.dallasparks.org. It’s going to take a team effort, so please join us!

There’s History in
Your Neighborhood
What Happened On The Parks
Fretz-The park located at the corner of
Hillcrest and Beltline Roads was named for
a gentleman who served longer on the
Dallas Park Board than anyone else, Emil
Fretz. He truly gave his boundless energy to
the citizens of Dallas. In the early days of
the Park Board, there was a Fretz Park
located at 2100 Cockrell, the first property
the Park Board ever purchased. This was
also the first site of the first community
center and was located in what was then
known as the Cotton Mills district . It was
first called Cotton Mills Playground. On
Thanksgiving day, 1909, the park was
dedicated as “Trinity Park”. The first
improvements consisted of a temporary
bathhouse and combination kindergarten
and assembly room. Later a milk station was
established by the Infants Welfare
Association.
This Park does not exist any longer, so
when a new recreation center was built in
North Dallas, it was named Fretz. Once
again Emil Fretz was honored.
Send A Kid To Camp
A free, drop-in , summer recreational program for youths 6-15
conducted June 13 through July 29. The SEND A KID TO CAMP
program began in 1988 and since its inception, more than
59,100 Dallas youth have been served and 495 camps have
been conducted. Sites were located in communities where there
are few or no opportunities for youth to attend structured summer
recreational programs.
