The “I am Talent” workshops are highly interactive and are designed to challenge your thinking, create insights, motivate you to action and empower you to accelerate your growth and development within your work - and ultimately enhance your quality of life. Following from the challenging and inspiring workshop the students had a think tank and came up with the skills, values and competencies that the Treverton G.A.P. post matriculation course affords them. Here is what we came up with - WOW this is POWERFUL! We believe that you can conquer anything you like if you have the right attitude. Be the best that you can be – unleash your potential and differentiate yourself by being part of this amazing program where continuous improvement, continuous self-assessment and lifelong learning is encouraged. This aiming for “Personal Mastery” will position you for life in the VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) world where people need to adapt and position themselves for the rapidly changing work environment. The Treverton GAP post matriculation course equips its students with the right tools and processes to move forward boldly, building skills that enable them to be adaptable and comfortable in ambiguity and change. The course provides opportunity for the new competences for the new world to be learned, practiced and honed. By doing this training course, and accomplishing a realm of certificates, one can take away the following values, skills and competencies giving one the Favourable Advantage for their future world of study and/or work: Lateral thinking Bold decision makers Ingenuity/ Problem solving Perseverance Determination Listening Confidence Courage Self-control Integrity Resilience Empathy Responsibility Learn and master new skills in a short space of time Adaptable Independence Expanding personal comfort zones Self –growth and development Seeing the BIG picture Self respect Insightful Value of collaborative skills – team player Leadership skills Team Management Project management Relationships / networking Self management Communication skills Delegation skills Spirituality Health and wellness Time management Group facilitation Respect for others Respect for the environment Risk assessment Personal Financial management Don’t be ordinary – be extra ordinary Athol Davies – G.A.P Year Director Equestrian Samantha Schallen on Fortune Time at Oaksprings Eventing – 90cm Danel Goosen on Bold Warrior at Oaksprings eventing 90cm Pre Primary News Despite the cold weather the children at the Pre School are full of beans. Today they all decided to dress up in our fantasy dresses, even the boys!! What fun we had! Mrs Debbie Schulze Prep News Our boarders had such fun this weekend. They had a fancy dress party where they had to come dressed as their favourite characters. They then decorated the barn with balloons and crepe paper and ended their fancy dress with a party in the barn on Saturday night. Mr Marc Schulze Soccer U10 vs New Hanover (Coach Mr B Kaschula) We played 4 games: drew 3 and lost 1. The boys are in fine form and enjoying their soccer tremendously! U10 Boys in action over the weekend at New Hanover Hockey U11 festival (Coach: Mrs D Tanner) The U 11 Hockey team spent a wonderful morning taking part in a hockey festival at New Hanover on Saturday. They beat Bisley A and Atlone A. They drew with Pelham 1 - 1 and were beaten by Pelham B 1 - 0. They girls worked well as a team and are looking forward to their South Coast hockey tour in July. U10 festival (Coach: Mrs M Chaperon) On Saturday, 7 June the Under 10 Mini Hockey girls travelled to New Hanover to play in their festival. They played four matches during the course of the morning, but unfortunately were unable to win or draw any of these games. As a coach I was very happy with the way in which these six girls gave of their best, they never gave up trying, and they definatly improved with each game. Well done to Asemahle Mthembu, Clara Steyn, Emma Fallet, Caitlyn Odell, Lara Kent and Georgia Wilmot. I am SO proud of you!!! College News Solitaire On Friday, 30 May, 12 intrepid Solitarians (three school-boys and nine Posties) headed off to our own Treverton Wildlife Area for 48 hours of introspective solitary confinement in an area of 10 square metres, with tantalizing space all around; as much food as will fit into a match-box, only a Bible to read; no torch; no watch... Under the unsympathetic eye of their three Instructors. 8 of the original 12 achieved their award, so it's congratulations to: Tyrone Smith, Tino Nhiwatiwa, Joshua Fitzroy (Joshua won the best 'Friend' competition - they have to create a 'friend from anything in their surroundings), Gareth Ramsay, Anastassia Loreggian, Natalie Perumal, Kyle Raubenheimer (Kyle won 'Best Shelter') and Martin De Goede, on earning their Solitaire Award. And to James Mackie, Benjamin Stiller and Micha Stiller on doing a fine job of supervising the novices, and in so doing, earning their Solitaire Instructor Award. Mr Zac Graham Pietermaritzburg and Midlands Youth choir performance On Friday 6 June, the Pietermaritzburg and Midlands Youth choir entertained the College pupils. The evening was a memorable experience - with a full programme of conventional, classical pieces as well as a delightful contemporary African section. The College has nine pupils in the Midlands choir, namely Nico Britz, Braam Potgieter, Jared Richardson, Mpumelelo Ngobese, Caira Claasen, Claire McCubbin, Asanda Khumalo, Thembeka Moyo and Sarah McLoughlin. Mpumelelo is the one of the Deputy Heads of the choir. Nico sang a beautiful solo for us from 'Les Miserables'. Ms Clare Botha Girls Hockey On Saturday 7th June we played 8 games against St Johns. All of the games were evenly contested and I was proud of the determination displayed by our girls. Many of the teams have shown significant progress in the course of the season. Mr Hilton Pellow-Jarman Ist team vs St Johns This was a very exciting game and both teams put in a huge amount of effort. The week before St John’s beat St Anne’s 2-1 and they came into the game full of confidence. Occasionally every player in the team has a good game and this is exactly what happened on Saturday. Many of our girls had their best game of the season and the final score was 2 -1 to Treverton. Our first goal was scored by Bophelo Seoe and our second by Jeanne Botha. We were put under huge pressure in the second half but managed to hang on to a win. 1st team hockey girls vs St Johns U16A vs St Johns U16B vs St Johns (Coach: Mrs J Bebb) On Saturday we played our last match of the season against St Johns here on Astro. The astro was white with frost so a good warm up was essential. With 2 of our players missing some rearranging was necessary. At half time the score was 3 - 0 to the opposition and the girls realised that it was essential to close down the strikers. They did this successfully and also managed to score a goal so our end result was 3 -1. During the season we scored 13 goals and 11 were scored against us. All in all its been a good season and the girls' hockey has improved. Rugby 1st team vs Clifton (Coach: Mr J Hyam) Saturday the 7th saw a crispy cool morning welcoming the boys from Clifton, just as we had hoped! The Treverton 1st XV boys were ready for what promised to be a great challenge. After an intercept try and a rolling maul which could not be stopped, the Treverton boys woke up. Scoring 9 points through the boot of Andrew Tilbury. The half time score stood at 29-9, not a true reflection of a physical game of rugby. The Treverton boys played hard and put a lot of attractive rugby together, but the Clifton boys were very sharp and punished us whenever we made a mistake, converting all of their opportunities into points. The home side put together some great phases and scored a try through a lineout drive late in the second half to leave the final score at 45-14. Congratulations to Man of the Match Lungani Gumede. Good luck to the boys for the final game of the season against Greytown on Saturday. Boys Hockey 1st team hockey boys Boys Hockey Despite the rather chilly weather the girls came out in full support of the boys first team when they played against Clifton recently! Captain Tim Blaker Thick frost greeted the brave on Thursday morning …in time for POLAR BEAR!
