Transition from 8th‐9th grade Klein Oak High School Summer Finding a Path as a Panther Finding a Path as a Panther Students need to find their path for high school. Students need to find their path for high school They are coming from various Intermediate Schools not only in Klein but some out of the Schools not only in Klein, but some out of the district or even the state. B i i Beginning of the 9 f h 9th grade year is extremely d i l important. This includes meeting the right people and knowing how to design a path to l dk i h d i h success! Fish Camp Fish Camp Fish camp is a 3 ½ hour introduction to KO. Fish camp is a 3 ½ hour introduction to KO. It is an informative workshop where students attend one of six sessions ( 00 students attend one of six sessions (200 students per session) to learn about Klein Oak and what it has to offer. St ff Staff The Leadership Staff is comprised of top officers in clubs who have attended leadership training over the summer. Three faculty members and I facilitate this workshop. These leaders create incentives and activities for Fish Camp. Also – during that time, the students take a learning style test and then receive a color coordinated shirt to match their learning style. The teachers take the test as well. The students’ learning style results are given to the teachers and many of them use this information to enhance their teaching many of them use this information to enhance their teaching methods. Tour Time Tour Time A favorite with Fish Camp Staff is the tour of both the p main building and freshmen wing. They stop along the way to sign the banner , pose for some pictures and stroll through the halls to see where i t d t ll th h th h ll t h they eat and where they go to get an early dismissal. This year, their ID picture will be made, so that they will y p y have them the first day of school with their schedule. FRESHMEN MIXER The students are given the opportunity to attend the Freshmen Mixer the first Saturday after school begins. Both the students and parents are invited to meet the administration, counselors, and visit an array of clubs, organizations, and booster clubs by visiting their booths. Constant evaluation of measures and tweaking during the year is as important as the transition activities themselves!
