Deck the Halls with Rock Wall wines, fa la la la la, lala la
la. Happy Holiday’s everyone!
We are all done with 2012 harvest and there are some
great wines in barrel including some fun new white and
red wines. Newbies like Fiano, which is a delicious traditional Italian wine, a 50/50 blend of Alvarino and Verdelho
called Alverd, more Blanc de Blanc, more Obsidian (!!) and
all our ole’ faves: Monte Rosso, Stagecoach, Jesse’s etc. We
will be doing some barrel tasting during the Open House
tours on December 1st if you’re curious what the vintage
is tasting like already. (Hint: delicious).
Speaking of delicious, you are getting the 2011 Sparkling
Brut, and the Sven & Ole’s Zinfandel in your club pack
this go-around! The Sparkling Brut is a blend of 95% Pinot
Grigio, 3% Chardonnay and 2% Muscat Canelli. Unlike the
Blanc de Blancs which is an unmistakably bright California Sparkling, we took a bit more traditional approach
with this flavor profile, paying homage to our French predecessors. The result is reminiscent of French Champagne
which boasts baked yeasty and apple pie aromas followed
by dry flavors of pineapple, pear and a refreshing mineral
finish. Perfect to celebrate your holiday meal.
The Sven & Ole Zinfandel should be considered a personal
gift from the Rosenblum family. If you’ve spent time with
my father, Kent, he has probably told you a kind-of-funny
Swedish or Norwegian joke featuring the antics of Sven &
Ole. I wanted to make a wine for my Dad that embraces
and represents the vineyards he loves. The final blend
encompasses 60 gals. of Monte Rosso, 30 gals. each of
Hendry, Stagecoach, Windsor Oaks, Rockpile, and Harris Kratka, and 15 gals. each of St. Peter’s Church, Alegria,
and Jesse’s. This is like an A-list celebrity party, where
only the ‘best of the best’ are invited to play. Considering all the ‘players’, we worked hard to craft this into a
well-balanced, layered, multi-faceted Zin. Ripe blueberry,
strawberry, and sarsaparilla emphatically greet one’s nose,
followed by rich flavors of ripe blackberry, dark chocolate,
plum, playful coconut notes and a long sage and black
cherry finish. (Sven & Ole joke included...please see back
of bottle). Enjoy this bottle with your family over the holidays and when you read the joke on the bottle, it will be
just like our families are celebrating together.
