WELCOME TO EAST BERKSHIRE
Report from our Captain
by Giepie Bosch
Dear Protea Golf Society
Members and Friends,
The 2014 golfing season got off to
a fantastic start. We had a full
house of 36 Members booked for
the Grove.
We unfortunately had ONE NO
SHOW – which is exactly why we
will now strongly enforce
removing members from the
CONFIRMED LIST for an event if
YOU HAVE NOT PAID by the 2
week cutoff point.
The first event of the year
demonstrated the passion shown
by the committee and everyone
attending received a ProteaGolf
branded pitch mark repair tool
and casino-style marker chip
proudly displaying our Society
Logo. We also now have trophies
for the winner, nearest the pin
and longest drive. A little
something to take home and
show your wife that your time
was not wasted!
The day was perfect for golf, with
it being surprisingly warm,
compared to last year where we
were all freezing!
This was not shown in the scores
with the vast majority of the field
staying within the 28-35 pt
category, perhaps trying to
protect their handicaps! Our
winner Heinrich Ferreira had
other ideas though and won the
day with a fabulous 37 points. He
was closely followed by Thomas
Nel and Bakes on 36 points.
Nearest the pins went to: Hennie
Muller (Hole 4), Niel Pienaar (Hole
7), Heinrich Ferreira (Hole 13),
Andre v Backstrom (Hole 16). And
longest drive to the powerhouse
that is Hennie Muller (Hole 9).
The Grove again treated us to an
amazingly prepared venue both
on the Course and in the
Clubhouse, with a lovely dinner
and expensive drinks!
The evening saw the holding of
the AGM for 2014. The minutes
have been posted on the Website.
The amended constitution was
also presented to the members,
and some minor changes were
made. Most important to note
was the introduction of a stricter
policy around inactive members.
If members do not play a
minimum of 3 events a year
they will become inactive. It is
essential for the Protea Society to
have members who participate
across the board and as such we
have introduced this rule.
I would like to welcome New
members all of whom played at
almost every event last year, and
therefore worthy additions to our
Society.
They
are:
Paul
Ainsworth Taylor, Denis Zenon,
David Luiz, and Jaco de Beurs
Finally congratulations to ALL the
first
round
MATCHPLAY
WINNERS! Results available on
the Website.
Following the success of this first
event we cannot wait for the next
one.
Remember to book well in
advance and make sure YOU
HAVE PAID a minimum of two
weeks before the event. At the
two week mark the event will be
opened up to our Guests and your
name will be removed.
Happy Golfing!
