2016 ICC INTENSIVE DVOŘÁK MASTERCLASSES Symphony No. 8 in G Major, Op. 88 Symphony No. 7 in D Minor, Op. 70 Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95 Carnival, Concert Overture, Op. 92 Othello, Concert Overture, Op 93 Pazardzhik State Symphony Orchestra January 11 - 16, 2016 Faculty: Miriam Němcová (Czech Republic) Grigor Palikarov (Bulgaria) Jorma Panula (Finland) ____________________________________________________ The INTERNATIONAL CONDUCTORS COLLECTIVE (ICC) will present an INTENSIVE DVOŘÁK MASTERCLASSES held between January 11 - 16, 2016 with the PAZARDZHIK STATE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, Bulgaria. MIRIAM NĚMCOVÁ, Director of Orchestra Studies at the Prague Conservatory (Czech Republic) will be joined by GRIGOR PALIKAROV, Conductor at the National Opera and Ballet - Sofia (Bulgaria) for a five (5) day long session of Masterclasses (Monday – Friday) ending with a one day Run-Through performance (Saturday). Two days with Jorma Panula (M – T) and three days divided between Miriam Němcová and Grigor Palikarov (W – F). The INTERNATIONAL CONDUCTORS COLLECTIVE (ICC) will select up to ten (10) conductors as active participants only and several passive participants. Each active participant MUST PREPARE either Symphonies No. 7 & 8 or Symphony No. 9 with the two Overtures Op. 92 and 93. It is advised to study all works listed. Conductors will get thirty-minutes (30) a day for podium time per day (five days total) and the final day receive a joint concert run-through with the orchestra with fifteen-minute (15) dress sound check. All selections will be assigned by ICC and Pazardzhik State Symphony Orchestra. Tuition for the INTERNATIONAL CONDUCTORS COLLECTIVE (ICC) INTENSIVE DVOŘÁK SYMPHONIES MASTERCLASSES for active participant is 2000€. This fee includes podium time, video analysis and accommodations. Participants are housed at the Pazardzhik Primavera Hotel 2, which includes breakfast. All other meals are the responsibility of the participant. All orchestra sessions will be video recorded and the videos will be analyzed daily, however personal SD cards are the responsibility of the participant. Suggested is to bring two (2) new non-formatted cards for personal use. It is advised that participants bring their own video cameras for personal use. ICC FACULTY 2016 MIRIAM NĚMCOVÁ Czech conductor Miriam Němcová is the Music Director of the Praga Sinfonietta and Vox Pragae, Permanent Conductor of the Filharmonie Hradec Králové, Chorus Master for the Czech National Choir and a visiting Chorus Master of the Česká Filharmonie. A noted performer in symphonic, opera and choral genres, she has performed throughout France, Italy, Germany, México and in Asia to great acclaim. She is also a frequent conductor with the Národní Divadlo (Czech National Theatre), Karlovarský Symfonický Orchestr, Suk Chamber Orchestra and Divadlo Františka Xavera Šaldy Liberec (opera). Her formative training was done at the Pražská konzervatoř (Prague Conservatory) and the Akademie múzických umění v Praze (Prague Academy of Performing Arts - HAMU) where she studied composition and conducting. Her teachers have included Rafael Kubelík and Václav Neumann. She also had the opportunity to study internationally on a Czech Government Scholarship at the Internationale Bachakademie in Stuttgart with Helmuth Rilling and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris with Jean-Sébastien Béreau. Since 1995 she has taught at and headed the conducting department of the Prague Conservatory and leads its symphony orchestra. She has also guided international conducting classes in Hradec Králové, Seoul and elsewhere. Most recently Maestro Němcová has recorded Bedřich Smetana’s monumental Czech masterpiece Má Vlast with the Hradec Králové Orchestra. _______________________________________________________________________________________ GRIGOR PALIKAROV Bulgarian conductor Grigor Palikarov made his debut at the Sofia National Opera and Ballet in 1998 and soon after in 2001 was appointed as one of four permanent conductors. Currently he is chief conductor of the Classic FM Radio Orchestra and Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Pazardjik State Symphony Orchestra. A graduate of the National Music Academy, Sofia, earning an unprecedented four Master of Music degrees in orchestra conducting, choral conducting, piano and composition, he has performed in prestigious national and international music festivals such as Sofia Music Weeks, March Music Days in Rousse, the European Music Festival, Austrian Music Weeks, the Festival of New Bulgarian Music, the Festival of Contemporary Music in Pula, Croatia, and the May Opera Nights in Skopje. He has also performed with many international renowned artists such as Ghena Dimitrova, Glen Dicterow, Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Albena Danailova, Krassimira Stoyanova, Alexandrina Milcheva, Robert Nagy, Svetlin Roussev, Nadezhda Krasteva, Boiko Tzvetanov, Wolfgang Schulz and Nickola Ghjuzelev. Maestro Palikarov is a frequent international guest-conductor, leading orchestras in Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Taiwan, Japan and other countries. Most recently he has conducted the Royal Belgian Philharmonic Orchestra (Brussels), the Slovenia National Opera and Ballet (Ljubljana), the Vienna Chamber Orchestra (Austria), the Taipei Century Symphony Orchestra (Taiwan), Opera Circle - Cleveland (United States). SPECIAL GUEST FACULTY JORMA PANULA Jorma Panula is a Finnish conductor, composer, and teacher of conducting. He was the artistic director and chief conductor of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra from 1963 to 1965, the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra from 1965 to 1972 and the Aarhus Symphony from 1973 to 1976. Today, though he is in high demand as a guest conductor throughout the world, he has limited his podium appearances greatly during the past ten years devoting his time mostly to composition and pedagogy. As a pedagogue he has served as Professor of Conducting at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki from 1973 to 1994 and at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen and has led conducting master courses and workshops all over the world including Australia, Netherlands, Canada, Russia, the United Sates and throughout Asia. Featured BBC Music Magazine as one of the "60 most powerful people in music", he has had great influence on the world of conducting through teaching. He has been called the "hidden hand" behind the extraordinary succession of fine conductors that came out of Finland and his students include Esa-Pekka Salonen, Mikko Franck, Hannu Lintu, Rolf Gupta, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Sakari Oramo, Osmo Vänskä, Sasha Mäkilä, Susanna Mälkki and Ville Mankkinen to name a few. In 1997 Jorma Panula was awarded the Rolf Schock Prize. ________________________________________________________________________________ HOUSING Pazardzhik Primavera Hotel 2 8 Peyo Yavorov Str, 4400 Pazardzhik, Bulgaria Pazardzhik’s Primavera 2 Hotel is a well-maintained two star hotel within the center area of Pazardzhik directly in the main shopping street area and several restaurants. The Museum of History, Pazardzhik Theater and Pazardzhik State Symphony Orchestra are within 5 minutes walking distance. All rooms at the Primavera have air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, cable TV and a refrigerator. The private bathroom is equipped with a shower and some free toiletries. Breakfast is served each morning, and other meals are served in the à la carte restaurant on premises. The Primavera has a 24-hour reception desk, and free private parking. Airport transfers, laundry and dry cleaning services can be had with additional surcharge. Deposit of 50% of tuition (1000€) is due upon acceptance and the remainder December 11, 2015. Bank transfer and payment information will be sent to all participants. Tuition for Passive participant is 500€. This fee includes access to all masterclasses, concerts and housing with breakfast. The complete of tuition (500€) is due upon acceptance. All fees are payable upon acceptance and are non refundable in regards to active participants unless a comparable replacement conductor can be acquired by ICC. Passive participants may receive approx. 70% refund in the event of cancelation up to December 11, 2015. After this date there are NO refunds. Deadline for all cancelations is November 20, 2015.
