The Club’s Climate
kay, that’s enough cold weather! Spring has finally arrived and all of us nonsnow birders couldn’t be happier. Unlike last year I understand the weather was
outstanding down south over the winter months. Lightly jealous, we welcome you back
as we weathered the storm and held the fort down. As always, the seasonal planning is
complete and we look forward to an outstanding year at your club.
Another “as always” this time of the year is to hone in on the membership campaign.
As Mr. Spengler’s recent letter stated, we have adjusted the dues structure for our younger
members, instituted a new golfing category and are offering a special one time-one year
dues reduction program to new members all addressing the realities of our current industry
in coordination with the local economy. These are exciting programs that we believe will
take us back to the membership levels that we all desire. As in any membership campaign,
member involvement is what it’s all about and if 25% of the membership sponsored one
member, we will be back to where we want to be. Lastly, never hesitate to bring a prospect
out for a round of golf, game of tennis, day at the pool or lunch to show off your club. We
will be more than happy to pick up the tab. The next 90 days will tell the tale.
The ever changing and mind blowing speed of the world of technology has made its way
to the doors at TCC and we are going to let them in. This next year will produce a variety
of new avenues to enhance our abilities in communication that will save the club significant
dollars. It is starting next month with the newsletter. Approximately 88% of our membership
has internet access where our monthly newsletter is available. In addition, it can go out via
a monthly e-mail with a link to a PDF version of the newsletter. We will still send out the
newsletter to those members that still want the printed version. The total cost savings will
be over $5,000 annually.
I’d like to a moment recognize our operational leaders as I continue to be amazed at
their dedication and commitment to Toledo
Country Club. Despite operating your club
with less than ideal monies afforded them, they
Thursday, April 21st
have done everything possible to be sure your
experiences have remained first class.

With every new season we face many new challenges, This year will be no different; in
fact it will provide us with a much different challenge. On April 5th, not only will I lose
one of Toledo’s sweetest ladies, so will the Toledo Country Club. It is with the deepest of
regrets to inform you our Pastry Chef Sandra Booth will be taking a leave for 3-6 months
to have surgery to repair her shoulder. Although she will be absent and very missed from
the club, we will still provide Members and their guests with one of the sweetest endings
to any meal. Let me be the first to say Sandra you and your talents will be greatly missed
so I would like to say Good Luck and lets pray it’s only three months! How’s that for a
challenge to go along with the ever raising prices of gas and food at record paces?! With
that said, you can expect to see new Bistro and Dinner Menus in May. My focus on the
upcoming menus will be bringing the freshest ingredients to the table as well as pricing.
As always I look forward to the new season and its challenges as it has been a long
winter. Thanks and hope to see you soon at your Club.
“I cook with wine, sometimes I even add it to the food.” – W.C.Fields

TENNIS NEWS
Summer tennis season will begin on May 2nd, and there will be many opportunities for players of all ages and abilities to get
on the courts. TAIL clinics and practice times (including the Singles strategy clinic, the FREE play with the pro morning, and
evening practices) will remain unchanged from last year. In addition to the competitive side, we are always looking to improve
our mixers and social events. The first Friday night doubles tennis/dinner will be May 20th, and we have added a new
format to the June mixer that you won’t want to miss. As for staff, Leo Sarria (who makes me look good all day long) will be
returning for his third season, and junior program specialist Eric North will be back for his second season. It will be impossible
to fill Catalina’s shoes, but I have hired Aleks Elezovic (UT’s #1 Singles player) to bring his expertise to both our adult clinics
and our top juniors. Please keep reading for important information on weekly schedules and Aleks’ impressive biography. At
the tennis courts our motto is “Dawn ‘til Dusk,” so I’m sure I’ll see you on the courts soon. – Kasey
