Friedman by Mary Friedman WHAT’S NEW AT NEW MT. SINAI? Continuing our series of “Who’s Who At New Mt. Sinai,” this month we feature Major Adolph Proskauer. Maj. Proskauer grew up in Mobile, Alabama, and served with the Confederate Army in the Civil War. He rose through the ranks to Major due to his acts of heroism on the battlefield. Following the war, he settled in St. Louis and pursued a career as a cotton merchant, eventually becoming the president of the Merchants and Cotton Exchange. Maj. Proskauer was also an original supporter of St. Louis Jewish Hospital, and served as a Board member of Temple Israel. His monument at New Mt. Sinai ai is frequently a tourist destination. To see the Proskauer gravesite or to schedule a private tour of the cemetery, call the New Mt. Sinai office at 314-353-2540.
