Create a unique woven piece of art using a mixed media of
materials. Yarn, fabric, ribbon, beads, and more can be woven
into a design to take home.
In this class, students will use their imagination to create and
build a 3-dimensional sculpture structure using toothpicks and
grapes. Next, we will learn about the importance of a light
source in art, and how the different shadows of our sculpture
looks with using different sources of light. Then, students will
use two different light sources and trace the shadows of their
art. Finally, we will use water color paints to fill in the shapes
that we have created! When these two original pieces are side
by side, you will see how well they complement each other!

Play Synopsis: When this rousing adventure story premiered
off-Broadway, it received unanimous critical acclaim. Parents
Magazine considered it, “first rate all the way, a delightful
experience,” and the New York Times called it, “an inventive
classic.” Treasure Island is certainly one of the most durable
adventure stories of all time, with the villainous Long John
Silver following young Jim across the ocean to search out a
buried fortune on Treasure Island. This delightful adaptation
includes numerous excellent roles for females.

THEATER CAMP (AGES 6-12)
We’ve revamped our summer drama program into a new, fun,
and educational experience for young and aspiring actors!
In this two week intensive theatre camp, children will learn,
memorize and put on a show. On the Friday of the second
week, the classes will demonstrate their hard work with a
performance for friends and family. Through staging these
plays, participants will learn many important aspects of acting
in a creative and supportive environment. All skill levels are
welcome! If your child doesn’t have theatre experience, don’t
worry, this will be the perfect opportunity for them to explore
their talents. Please join us for this new and exciting class!
Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson is one of the most
famous adventure stories in English literature. The play begins
at a seaside inn owned by Auntie Nan, the caretaker of the young
protagonist, Jim Hawkins. A mysterious old sailor comes to the
inn, entrusts a treasure map to Jim, and promptly dies. But the
adventure has begun! Jim and friends board a ship to search for
the treasure, only to find that the majority of the ship’s crew are
actually pirates led by the notorious Long John Silver. As they
land on the island the battle for the treasure continues...
The performance will take place during the last Friday class.
*Children MUST be able to attend all classes and final
performance to enroll in class*

EFK SUMMER CAMP: MINECRAFT:
TRAVELING INTO THE FUTURE
(GRADES 3-6)
During the Da’Vinci’s Designs robotics course, students will
use LEGO® MINDSTORMS® to find viable solutions to some
of the same challenges that Leonardo Da’Vinci was once faced
with. These “ancient” real-world problems include making a
mobile bridge, the perfect siege machine, and yes, even creating
a masterpiece of art like the Mona Lisa.
Join us in an apocalyptic future, one where the earth has been
ravaged by a series of natural disasters. Each day, students rely
on the engineering design process to solve a series of challenges
such as building a city on a series of islands, escaping from a
bunker on Mt. Everest, and even building a rocket to land on the
moon! Through application of engineering principles, students
solve numerous challenges as they make their virtual world of
Minecraft a safe place for humanity once again.

AMERICAN RED CROSS YOUTH SWIM & DIVE LESSONS
SWIM DISCOVERY (AGES 5 AND UP)
Swimming & Diving Lessons:
Cost: $40R/$60NR
Location: Walter R. Bauman Aquatic Center
Days: Monday-Friday
Program registration information: Listed on next page
Level 1
This level is water skill introduction and helps kids become
comfortable in the aquatic atmosphere. Kids will advance
in bobbing, blowing bubbles, holding breath, entering and
exiting the pool properly, vertical position recovery, glides
and floats on the front and back, treading water, retrieving
submerged objects, and learning to alternate and use arms and
legs simultaneously while on from and back.
All Recreation Division swim lessons are taught by American
Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructors. Classes are offered
in accordance with National Red Cross recommendations. Class
sizes will be limited to provide safe student/instructor ratios that
will insure a quality approach to the program. Once the enrollment
max is met, no additional registrations will be accepted. No
exceptions. We strongly encourage you to register early and only
for the appropriate levels needed as no adjustments will be made.
Level 2
Learn the fundamentals of aquatic skills in this level. Kids will
incorporate the fundamentals from level one and begin more
skilled floats: front, back, and jellyfish. Other skills include
recovering to a vertical position, rolling from front to back/
back to front, changing directions while swimming, using the
arms in a finning action, treading water, and using arms and
legs while swimming on front and back.
Swim Lessons:
6 months-3 years old: Parent/Child
3-4 years old: Preschool Levels 1 “P” and 2 “P”
5 years and up: Levels 1-6
Preschool classes are specifically designed for students 3-4 years
old. Children must be able to be in the water comfortably, without
a parent, and be ready to comprehend instructions.
Level 3
This level’s main focus is stroke development. Kids will begin
the lesson by stepping or jumping into the water and will
move towards entering by using headfirst entry from a seated
position. They will learn how to move to a safe position by
bobbing, how to use rotary breathing and survival and back
floats, change from a vertical to a horizontal position, and
continue to build on the treading water skill. The following
kicks will be learned: scissor, dolphin, flutter, and breaststroke.
The basic backstroke and front crawl are introduced at this
level.
Youth Diving Lessons:
Designed for participants who have completed Level 3 of the Red
Cross Swim Lesson program and are comfortable in 12 feet of
water.
Beginner-little or no diving experience or knowledge
Intermediate/Advanced-experience in 3 or more dives
Inclement Weather:
If the air temperature is less than 60 degrees or it is lightening,
the Aquatic Center will be closed. Lessons will not be
rescheduled. Classes are cancelled no earlier than 30 minutes
prior to the start of each class.
Level 4
This level continues to focus on the stroke development.
Kids will now enter water using the headfirst method from
the side of the pool, and will incorporate the compact and
stride positions. Kids will learn the feet first surface dive,
underwater swim, and open turns while doing the front crawl
and backstroke, and tread water in two different methods.
Strokes include: front and back crawl, elementary backstroke,
breaststroke, side stroke, and butterfly. While on the back, kids
will use the flutter and dolphin kicks.
Please use these brief level descriptions to help as your
reference:
TODDLER SWIM (AGES 3-4)
Level 1-P
This level is an orientation to the water and provides children
with the knowledge of basic swimming skills. Lesson structure
includes exiting and entering the water in various ways,
blowing bubbles with the mouth and nose, bobbing, gaining
comfort with opening eyes under water, retrieving objects
from the shallow water, vertical position recovery, gliding
and floating on front and back, basic water treading, learning
alternate and simultaneous movements of legs and arms, and
rolling from back to front/front to back.
Level 5
This level focuses on stroke enhancement. Entering the pool
will be done by a shallow dive from the side of the pool,
which is a transition into gliding and beginning the front
crawl. Kids will submerge fully, and also learn the tuck and
pike surface dives. While swimming, they will use the front
and back flip turns; sculling is also introduced at this level.
Strokes include: front and back crawl, elementary backstroke,
breaststroke, side stroke, and butterfly.
Level 2-P
This level focuses on children gaining independence with
skills, and developing comfort while in and around the water.
Lesson structure includes proper entering and exiting of
pool, bobbing, retrieving submerged objects with eyes open,
changing from a front and back glide or float to a vertical
position, front and back/back to front roll, using arms and legs
to tread water, finning action, and the combined use of leg and
arm action to move back and forth.
Level 6
This level refines the participant’s strokes and skill expertise.
Main focus is on swimming with comfort, effectiveness,
strength, and sleekness over a longer distance. This level
prepares participants for more advanced courses, such as
