There’s more to shooting than
pulling the trigger and more to
Federal than just ammunition.
We t h i n k A m e r i c a ’s s ho o t i ng
traditions, game animals and
habitat are all precious national
resources. We believe they
deserve a sustained commitment
that goes beyond any single
season. That’s why we donate
our own time, money and energy
to organizations that are best
suited to preserve these resources
fo r t he f u t u re. We e nc o u ra g e
you to join us in this effort.
Making a difference long
after the shot is made.
Please support the organizations
that make a difference for everyone
who enjoys the outdoors. Like
Federal, every shooter can make
a difference long after the shot
is made.

PREMIUM® CENTERFIRE
It’s almost unfair to call our Premium line of ammunition one
single line. It’s actually four different lines of ammunition, each
specialized for a specific type of shooting. Premium is also more
like custom ammunition. Each cartridge is built with better brass,
hotter primers, a more precise powder measure, tighter specs and
an incredible selection of the world’s latest bullet designs.

Long ranges are its specialty. Depending on the caliber, it’s an
excellent choice for varmints to big game animals. The
GameKing’s tapered, boat-tail design provides extremely flat
trajectories. The design also gives it a higher downrange velocity,
so there’s more energy at the point of impact. Reduced wind
drift makes it a good choice for long-range shots.

This trajectory table was calculated by computer using the best available data for each load. Trajectories are representative of the nominal behavior of each load at standard conditions (59ºF temperature; barometric pressure of 29.53 inches; altitude at sea level).
Shooters are cautioned that actual trajectories may differ due to variations in altitude, atmospheric conditions, guns, sights, and ammunition.

CLASSIC® CENTERFIRE RIFLE
Tested, tried and true, Federal Classic Rifle loads have delivered consistent accuracy
and performance for decades. They feature Federal Hi-Shok or Sierra Pro-Hunter
bullets, both with expansion up to 200 percent. Federal's Classic centerfire powders
are customized to each load and tested to rigid standards. Our brass is specially
formulated to meet precise dimensional tolerances. And primers are a basic lead
styphnate mixture – exclusive to Federal. Keep the tradition alive with Federal
Classic Centerfire.
Sierra Pro-Hunter® Bullets
The Pro-Hunter bullet makes our reliable Classic Rifle cartridges even better. The bullet quality is considered
among the best in the business. Sierra’s copper jackets are extremely uniform and their specifications are 3
times better than are found in standard jackets. Sierra’s core has a weight tolerance of just three-tenths of a
grain for consistent performance from shot to shot. Pro-Hunters are made under the eye of trained inspectors
and every single production run is tested before it hits the shelf. Combine Pro-Hunter’s quality with
Federal’s dedication to reliable powders, primers and brass, and you’ve just put an outstanding cartridge in
your chamber.
Hi-Shok® Bullets
Federal Hi-Shok bullets hit hard and expand reliably for effective game-getting performance. The tapered
jacket is designed to provide good initial penetration plus controlled expansion. Rigid manufacturing
controls ensure consistency; generations of hunters swear by their reliability.
Classic Soft Point
Soft Point Round Nose
Soft Point Flat Nose
Soft Point
It’s a proven performer on small game and thin-skinned medium game. It has an aerodynamic
tip for a flat trajectory. The exposed soft point expands rapidly for hard hits, even as velocity
slows at longer ranges.
Soft Point Round Nose
For generations, hunters have made this bullet the choice for deer and bear in heavy cover. Its
large exposed tip, good weight retention and specially tapered jacket provide controlled
expansion for deep penetration.
Soft Point Flat Nose
Got a tubular magazine? This is the bullet hunters traditionally choose when they’re headed
into thick cover. It expands reliably and penetrates deeply on light to medium game. The flat
nose prevents accidental discharge.

AMERICAN EAGLE® CENTERFIRE RIFLE
American Eagle rifle ammunition is made for sportsmen who like to shoot a lot,
don't want to pay a lot, and don’t want to sacrifice performance. It’s available in
the most popular military calibers. You’ll be pleasantly surprised when you shoot
it – and when you take it to the cash register.
Full Metal
Jacket Boat-Tail
Full Metal Jacket Boat-Tail
These accurate non-expanding bullets give you a flat-shooting trajectory, leave a small exit hole

These trajectory tables were calculated by computer using the best available data for each load. Trajectories are representative of the nominal behavior of each load at standard conditions (59°F temperature; barometric pressure of 29.53 inches; altitude at sea level).
Shooters are cautioned that actual trajectories may differ due to variations in altitude, atmospheric conditions, guns, sights, and ammunition.

PREMIUM® HANDGUN
Premium Handgun ammunition increasingly has become the choice of
law enforcement personnel, and of knowledgeable shooters buying
ammunition for personal defense or handgun hunting. Power, accuracy,
reliability – these are the hallmarks of Premium Handgun cartridges.
And the exclusive bullet choices ensure the right load for the task.
When you have to be sure . . . be sure you're shooting Federal.
Premium Bullet Choices
Hydra-Shok®
The choice of many law enforcement agencies nationwide. Federal’s unique center-post design
delivers controlled expansion, and the notched jacket provides efficient energy transfer to
penetrate barriers while retaining sufficient stopping power. The deep penetration of this
jacketed bullet satisfies even the FBI’s stringent testing requirements.
Premium Personal Defense®
We hope you’ll never have to use our Premium Personal Defense ammunition in a critical
situation. But if you do, you’ll appreciate the increased muzzle velocity and energy compared
to standard loads, and the rapid bullet expansion that delivers instant stopping power.
You’ll also appreciate that recoil is significantly reduced. In addition, our unique clear
packaging lets you see the ammo before you even open the box.
Premium Expanding Full Metal Jacket
This revolutionary design combines a scored full metal nose over an internal rubber tip that
collapses on impact. It assures expansion on every shot. A base lead core assures weight
retention.
Premium Nyclad®
This unique load protects you, your handgun and the environment all at the same time. The
patented nylon-clad bullet eliminates bore leading, reduces airborne lead and provides the
accuracy and stopping power favored by many law enforcement officials.
Premium Handgun Hunting
Hunting with a handgun puts everything to the test: patience, hunting skills, and nerve…not to mention
the ammunition. You want ammo you can depend on, that’s why so many handgun hunters count on
Federal Premium to deliver the power and accuracy they need.
CastCore™
Premium CastCore gives you a heavyweight, flat-nosed, hard cast-lead bullet that
smashes through bone, without breaking apart. Its high velocity and heavy bullet
weight delivers more downrange stopping power and nickel-plated cases help prevent
corrosion.
Trophy Bonded Bear Claw®
Federal is introducing a new powerful .454 Casull load that features the Trophy
Bonded bullet. It has a fusion-bonded jacket and core for up to 95% weight
retention, better penetration and more knockdown power.

5 = Target shooting, training, practice 6 = Self defense
These trajectory tables were calculated by computer using the best available data for each load. Trajectories are representative of the nominal behavior of each load at standard conditions (59°F temperature; barometric pressure of 29.53 inches; altitude at sea level).
Shooters are cautioned that actual trajectories may differ due to variations in altitude, atmospheric conditions, guns, sights, and ammunition.

CLASSIC® HANDGUN
Handgun ammunition is serious business. And we take it very
seriously. There's a wide assortment of bullet profiles and
weights, in a broad range of calibers, to assure a Classic load
for every situation, from self-defense to hunting to target shooting. And our
legendary dedication to quality ensures consistent performance, time after
time after time.
Classic Bullet Choices
Lead Round Nose
A great economical training round for practicing at the range. It dates back to the early part
of this century. This bullet is 100% lead with no jacket. It provides excellent accuracy and is
very economical.
Full Metal Jacket
A good choice for range practice and reducing lead fouling in the barrel. The jacket extends
from the nose to the base, preventing bullet expansion and barrel leading. It is used primarily
as military ammunition and for recreational shooting.
Hi-Shok® Jacketed Soft Point
It’s a proven performer on small to medium-sized game.
Lead Semi-Wadcutter
The most popular all-around choice for target and personal defense. A versatile design which
cuts clean holes in targets and efficiently transfers energy.
Hi-Shok Jacketed Hollow Point
It’s an ideal personal defense round in revolvers and semi-autos. Creates quick, positive
expansion with proven accuracy. Specially designed jacket ensures smooth feeding in
autoloading firearms.
Semi-Wadcutter Hollow Point
A good combination for both small game and personal defense. Hollow point design
promotes uniform expansion.
AMERICAN EAGLE® HANDGUN
If you like punching a lot of holes in paper, you’ll appreciate
the value in our American Eagle line of ammunition. It’s
made to provide you with maximum fun at minimum cost.
You’ll find it in calibers from 25 Auto to 45 Auto, plus the most popular
revolver calibers.

PREMIUM® WATERFOWL
Technology is exactly what makes the latest Federal shotshell
the choices of waterfowlers, from their water-resistant triple-seal
to the decomposable wad. You’ll find a variety of shotshells,
all of which fit your particular hunting situation better
than lead ever did. So when the sky fills this year,
you’ll be ready to drop ’em.
22
PREMIUM® WATERFOWL LOADS
Tungsten-Iron
It’s big medicine for geese and larger ducks. Because, believe
it or not, Tungsten-Iron actually has more downrange energy
and knockdown power than lead. It also penetrates feathers
extremely well. We recommend using the same size shot as
lead, but with the same choke as steel.
Tungsten-Polymer
If you and your shotgun really miss lead, this is your shell.
You get the speed, downrange energies and consistent 40yard (up to 90%) patterns of traditional lead shot, so you
can use the same shot size as lead. Tungsten-Polymer is safe
to use in all shotguns designed for smokeless powder.
Tungsten-Iron & Steel
Get out your best recipe. We stack a layer of steel over a
layer of Tungsten-Iron. You get a combined pattern for
close-in work – like jump shooting or over decoys – and the
Tungsten-Iron keeps it effective at longer ranges. Use it in
any shotgun that’s meant to handle steel shot.
Premium Steel
Fast? Some Premium Steel loads move out at 1500 feet per
second. That's less than 1/4 of a wing flap. And it delivers
uniformed patterns - up to 90% at 40 yards. Choose two
sizes larger than you would in lead.

Premium Tungsten-Iron
P R E M I U M®
Tungsten-Iron works better than lead ever did, because it’s
nearly as dense as lead and we load it to higher velocities. It
has a patented six-petal wad to protect your barrel and the
shot is buffered to keep your pattern more uniform at longer
ranges. Look for it in 3 1/2 , 3 and 2 3/4- inch shells.

CLASSIC® WATERFOWL LOADS
Here’s the shell that puts duck and geese on
the table, but leaves you with enough cash to
buy a pie for dessert. Classic waterfowl loads are
a classic value and have been for years. The
pellets are uniform and throw tight patterns, while hot
primers ensure ignition even under the worst conditions.
Classic steel has three resistant seals at the wad, primer, and
crimps to provide protection from water damage.

*HP = Hollow Point **Low Recoil Slug. These trajectory tables were calculated by computer using the best available data for each load. Trajectories are representative of the nominal behavior of each load at standard conditions (59°F temperature; barometric pressure of 29.53 inches;
altitude at sea level). Shooters are cautioned that actual trajectories may differ due to variations in altitude, atmospheric conditions, guns, sights, and ammunition.
CLASSIC® SHOTGUN SLUGS
Classic Sabot Slugs
For rifled barrels and rifled choke tubes, sabot hollow points offer maximum expansion
and excellent accuracy.
Classic Rifled Slugs
Our rifled slugs provide maximum knockdown power. A special, one-piece cushioned
wad helps reduce felt recoil, while the hollow point gives it positive expansion.

Gold Medal®
When pride in your own shooting ability is on the line, that’s
one thing. When national pride rides on your shooting ability,
that’s Federal. Gold Medal is manufactured with extra care and
selected components to maximum performance and tight
tolerances to help make the most of America’s competitive
shooting talent. When you step up to the line, you can have
confidence in Gold Medal cartridges or shotshells.

GOLD MEDAL COMPETITION LOADS
Gold Medal Centerfire Rifle
It’s a rifleman’s dream. Gold Medal Centerfire Rifle is legendary for
extreme accuracy and has become the choice of competition shooters
and law enforcement sharpshooters alike. The aerodynamic design of
the Sierra MatchKing® bullet helps overcome wind resistance, resulting
in flatter trajectory, consistent accuracy and higher retained energy.
Gold Medal Match Pistol
“Extreme accuracy” is the only way to describe the
performance of the Gold Medal 308. The target
shows 10 shots fired at 200 yards.
Round after round, it delivers match-grade accuracy. Bullet styles are
matched to each caliber, to optimize that caliber’s potential. We also
custom-blend the powders and use only Gold Medal brass and
primers for maximum quality.
Gold Medal Ultramatch Rimfire
The .22 has never had so much respect. UltraMatch was developed
specifically for the U.S. Shooting team as a competitive round. We
started from scratch, establishing more than 400 quality control variables
along the way. In return, UltraMatch established a new level of
competitive shooting performance.
Gold Medal Match Pistol’s award-winning accuracy—
5 shots at 25 yards.
Gold Medal Shotshell
We make each shell like it’s about to decide the world championship,
because some of them actually have. At the 1996 Olympics, they
helped American shooters take home gold, silver and bronze medals.
In the 2000 Olympics it won a bronze for international skeet. Skeet,
trap and sporting clays shooters have their choice of paper or plastic
hulls. All Gold Medal shotshells feature our exclusive high-antimony
extra-hard shot, a patented wad system and the cleanest burning
powders, as well as the most reliable primer available today –
Federal’s 209A.

GOLD MEDAL® METALLIC LOADS
This is the round developed for international and Olympic competition. Federal’s
engineers spent years developing this “blueprint round,” which delivers accuracy
that is 10-15% better than any other match rimfire round.

These ballistic specifications were derived from test barrels 24 inches in length.
When the target is reduced to the center ring, you know that both
you and your ammunition have performed well. With its match-grade
accuracy and consistent performance, Federal Gold Medal Pistol
ammunition can help you achieve this pretty sight. That’s why Gold
Medal Match Pistol has been the choice of serious match shooters
and military marksmen for more than two decades.

These trajectory tables were calculated by computer using the best available data for each load. Trajectories are representative of the nominal behavior of each load at standard conditions
(59°F temperature; barometric pressure of 29.53 inches; altitude at sea level). Shooters are cautioned that actual trajectories may differ due to variations in altitude, atmospheric conditions, guns, sights and ammunition.

FEDERAL RIMFIRE SELECTIONS
It’s a time tested equation. A favorite .22, a few old tin cans and a lot of lecturing on safety
and etiquette. Plinking is how most of us got introduced to hunting and shooting, and many of
us never lost the desire to “pop” a few cans every now and again. Some of us still drag out that
same old lever-action .22, others have moved on to plinking with handguns and bigger calibers.
The one thing that remains the same, however, is the satisfaction that comes with the sound of
a squarely hit tin can. Pick up a box of Federal .22’s and you’ll see exactly what we mean.
Premium® Rimfire
We’ve found that you have to put more effort into small calibers, not less. Serious shooters appreciate the
performance of the .22 Win Mag cartridge. It has extraordinary velocity, flat trajectory and deadly accuracy.
The Sierra jacketed hollow point delivers explosive expansion on all varmints, predators and small game.
That’s a lot to ask from a small caliber.
Classic® Rimfire
A .22 is one of the most fun, most versatile inventions. Our Classic Rimfire selection covers just about
everything you can think of. We offer copper-plated solids and hollow points as well as bird shot… and
all of them carry the reliability Classic ammunition is known for.
Federal Rimfire
A selection of .22 magnum and conventional high velocity rifle cartridges.
American Eagle® Rimfire
American Eagle is a brand known for value. It won’t break you, even if you pick up a whole summer’s
worth at one time. Each round delivers true Federal performance and quality—in a value-priced product.

BALLISTICLEAN®
BallistiClean represents our dedication to the health of shooters at indoor ranges. Our
pistol loads feature a Toxic Free™ primer and a solid copper-tin bullet designed to
break up on a hard target. They eliminate airborne lead and help reduce barrel fouling.
BallistiClean is also popular with range operators, because there are no hazardous
waste disposal problems. It meets or exceeds all OSHA and EPA standards†. And because
it’s made to the same performance standards as all Federal ammunition, it’s guaranteed
to meet with your approval, too.
Non-Toxic Pistol Loads
If you spend a lot of time at the indoor range, this is your load. BallistiClean is the world’s first
non-toxic ammunition. It totally eliminates airborne lead and barrel fouling. Combine that with its
match-grade accuracy and you can see why it’s creating such excitement.
You’ll find BallistiClean in six
popular pistol calibers.

Density and Pellet Count,
Demystified
High density pellets provide better downrange energy
and penetration. Federal’s tungsten-iron pellets are
94% as dense as lead and 10% denser than bismuth.
Federal steel is about 75% the density of tungsten.
A given shot size is always a specific diameter, regardless
of material; a #2 steel pellet is .15"/3.81mm, as is a #2
lead or a #2 tungsten. But, because of differences in
density, there are 125 steel #2 pellets in an ounce, compared
to 94 tungsten #2 pellets or 87 lead #2 pellets.
Keep in mind that both steel and tungsten pellets retain
their shape better than lead pellets when fired, so they
provide greater velocity and tighter patterns for better
payload delivery.

Recommendations For Sighting In Your Rifle
• Make sure your rifle and scope are in good working order. Double-check action screws and scope mounts. Select an area that provides
a safe backdrop; a rifle range is the safest and most controlled location. Always wear hearing protection and shooting glasses.
• Shoot from a solid rest, such as a benchrest or sandbags. Carefully squeeze off three shots at the center of the target. Start by
shooting at close distance to get “on paper.” Evaluate the round before making any adjustments.
• The center of your three-shot group is the point of impact; adjust your sights to move the point of impact to the center point on
the target. (Move open rear sights in the same direction you want the point of impact to move; adjust scopes following the
instructions on the dials.)
• Increase the range until you are at the actual expected hunting distance. If you will be shooting at very long range, you may
need to allow for bullet drop by sighting in at a higher zero point.
• Different ammunition brands and/or bullet weights may affect you groups. If your rifle gets bumped or dropped, be sure to verify
your zero to ensure clean, accurate kills.
