Welcome . . .
Comedy, Theatre, Music, Haverhill Arts Centre has it all!
Starting with comedy: from September our regular Comedy Nights
make a come back, hurrah, with a gamut of top comedians; TV face Mark
Steel visits Haverhill for the first time in December and Puppetry of
the Penis makes a welcome return with a new mind (and body) bending
show. Someone who enjoys a good old moan, Dillie Keane from Grumpy
Old Women (BBC2) plays Angela in My Brilliant Divorce.
When it comes to theatre there is a gripping insight into the personal
worlds of Queen Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots, a spirited orphan
wants some more and Kate is shrewish in one of Shakespeare’s comedies.
For budding culture vultures there’s the story of The Big Ugly Monster
and the Little Stone Rabbit, (featuring the voice of Rik Mayall) and
a children’s show with a Caribbean Carnival atmosphere.
The iconic Marty Wilde ensures the musical season starts with a bang
and is swiftly followed by London Community Gospel Choir,
Whole Lotta Led and those eternal cheeky chappies Chas ‘n’ Dave.
Jan Akkerman and Gareth Pearson are real life guitar heroes (not
just on the games console) and jazz singer Tina May gives tribute to the
little sparrow, Edith Piaf.
Some things, like the outstanding Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers defy
easy classification and some like Panto are in a class of their own! This year
we’ve King Rat to boo at and Dick Whittington to root for.

A small town which distrusts outsiders and is paranoid about its young people
getting into trouble. Sound familiar? But this is mid west America a hundred
years ago. River City, Iowa, is just ripe to be conned by a travelling salesman
who convinces the townspeople he can form a band to keep youngsters on the
straight and narrow. Then he will flog them all the instruments and uniforms
and scarper with the cash. He’s done it before, lots of times and in many towns.
Only this time he falls for Marian the librarian . . .

Twist. Brilliantly conjuring up London’s foggy, fetid streets, this fast moving
