Mascot This curious bird of 22cm with broad shoulders, a short tail, and a black beak, robust and with a dark band running through his eyes is the official mascot of The World Games 2013 Cali. His singing agility and precision are talents that proudly represent us, as he flies with his yellow, sun-like plumage glinting, calling out his name ... Bichofué.... This curious bird lives in every corner of our city, and has become the main character of our landscape and our biodiversity. Cali’s philosophy reinforces its commitment to nature, to take our flight from above, free as the wind and ready to succeed. We choose this bird under the motto “fair play to the planet” as a proud mascot for The World Games 2013 Cali. Personality 1 Bichofué Male He is a dreamer, in love with life and owner of the sky ... Agile, confident, fast, with a gift for singing; friendly, a salsa lover, with a unique costume like the sun and a black mask... A great athlete, the perfect host, friend of the world, fair and humble. Enemy of violence and protector of the planet. Fun-loving and always ready for whatever may come. Personality 2 Bichofué Female Flirtatious, smart and sweet as her singing, cheerful, kind, very faithful to her partner and her convictions. She is an environmental activist with a great social sense. Colombian by nature and her nest is in Cali. She loves air sports and relaxing along the river with her friends. The Mascot will be interacting with people during promotion activities with our Sponsors, also at city marketing events (schools, universities, malls, public places, etc.) at the sport venues and at The World Games Plaza. 6 4. Official Tune of The World Games 2013 Cali Music produced by Marca País (National Government office in charge of the promotion of Colombia abroad) From the official music of our brand (Marca País), we wanted to be part of and join the biggest worldwide sport event of this year: The World Games 2013 Cali. That is why the Official Song came from the sublime sounds and intense vibrations of the instruments of the Colombian Pacific with Latin and Salsa hits. It was conceived with a global vision, transcending borders and setting aside words to have a sublime, glorious and insuperable approach. Perfection, delight in victory, success and conquest of triumph are reflected in its exquisite inspiring rhythms. Indeed, it is through the lyrical medium that we wanted to exalt athletes, portray the joy of Colombians, the strength and honor to be worthy representatives of this country. https://mega.co.nz/#!vwoDHChB!TNee6HINSsWmmgKYlRFjo2Tv_MB2F4_Fw-MxH-slQwo Text written by: Tatiana Feged – Marca Pais The music has been used in the TV spots of our advertising campaign. It will be part of the Opening Ceremony and the medal ceremonies. 5. The sports competing in these Games are not part of the current Olympic program but are intending to be. Therefore, this is the biggest opportunity Colombia has to promote the host city of Cali, the Valle Department and the country. The World Games 2013 Cali, in its ninth edition, will gather together more than 4000 athletes, more than 120 countries and around 2000 visitors during the event. This activity is headed by the National Government together with The International World Games Association and entities such as: Colombian Olympic Committee, Coldeportes (Ministry of Sports), Valle Governorship and Cali Mayorship. CALI: a Cultural, Tourism and Sporting City On July 25, Cali celebrates 477 years since its foundation; this important date will also be the Opening of The World Games 2013 Cali, its 9th edition, with more than 4000 athletes from 100 countries. Cali as the host city will be celebrating this important sporting event. General Aspects When we talk about Cali, we think of culture, salsa, kind people and also history. In Cali about 10 Museums exist to disseminate the historical heritage of our region. Among the most important museums in Cali, we can find: La Tertulia Museum, The First Museum of Modern Art in Colombia, The Gold Museum of Banco de la Republica and The Archeological Museum “La Merced”. In the same way, Cali is a place where the Visual Arts have a very strong presence, with INCOLBALLET the first professional ballet school in Colombia and the Conservatory Antonio Maria Valencia, which has trained classical and popular musicians for over 80 years. Gastronomy Cali belongs to the Valle del Cauca department, the second gastronomic destination of the 34 country, with locations such as Granada, San Antonio, Ciudad Jardin y el Parque del Perro where people can find a wide variety of foods and local and international dishes. The World Games Plaza For the IWGA the cultural program is important as well as the sports program: “A Daily Cultural Program will take place at the World Games Plaza”. The Cultural program will start with a presentation of the regional folklore through music and dance. Then we will have a tour through the best Colombian Carnivals, a staging of INCOLBALLET (school of art dancing), an entire day dedicated to Salsa and all its development in the city, the Athlete’s Party and finally Circus Magic. The Colombian Ministry of Culture will be present at The World Games with a staging in Cali called “Colombia the Nature of Culture”: with live performances, arts and crafts workshops and talks representing six cultural ecosystems and three Colombian cities. Parallel Cultural Program Parallel to the games, an associated cultural program will take place in which important cultural institutions from Cali will participate. All of them are planning together a great event during these days. The cultural program will be included in the athletes’ and tourist manual provided by CLOC. 16. QR Code System on credentials During the period of The World Games 2013, we will provide an application that will allow personalized assistance for those who have been accredited. This application will help to avoid confusing information and the most common problems that might arise for foreigners. With this in mind, the Information Technology Department has designed QR Codes on the back of the credentials. Each guest who has a mobile device (Smartphone or Tablet) is able to scan the code and consult useful information in real-time related to competitions, directions to the hotel, details about the departure flight, etc. 35 This application will be available at the moment the person receives the accreditation badge with the advantage that if there is any change in the information, such as flight departure time, the person can confirm it immediately from his/her device. Mobile Devices / Augmented Reality The World Games 2013 will feature a technology that will provide information to anyone about the sport venues that are part of this event. This concept is called Augmented Reality which consists of putting virtual images on top of the reality seen by a person through a camera, in order to enhance the current perception of reality. This function, designed by the Information Technology Department, allows the user to focus on the surrounding real world and, using GPS data, get graphics of the sport venues adjacent to his/her location. When this happens, the user can then click on the illustration of interest and find reviews, ticketing information, directions and a link to the official Web site. Everyone who wants to have this application on his Smartphone or Tablet can download it for free in the application store of each device. 17. MMC - Main Media Center: - 7:00 - 23:00 Hours The MMC will be in the second floor of Centro Sur Shopping mall where the headquarters of The World Games Organization is located. This mall is within walking distance from the 36 Pascual Guerrero Stadium and the Jaime Aparicio Sport Unit. This is the place where all journalists, photographers, camera operators and any accredited media will have a place to work and find all the information about The World Games during the event. The goal of the Local Organizing Committee is to have a news agency that provides the media with their own images and/or audio to facilitate their broadcast and coverage of each of the competitions of the event. The Main Media Center will have an approximate area of 700 square meters where there will be: • • • • • • • • • • • • • Audio booths for radio. Giant screens where screened signal or TV or broadcast signal will be displayed. An area of up to 200 workstations for writing and sending material. A press conference room with capacity for 50 journalists and a camera platform to bring the protagonists of the competition to the media. An official press office with up to 6 - 8 workstations, where press releases and information will be written before delivery. A Coffee Break area. Competition results delivered by Swiss Timing. In the MMC media room, users will find the following services: Internet. Electricity in every workstation. Telephone lines. TV signal. Bilingual personal assistance (English and Spanish) The organization has a transportation service available between the sports venues and the MMC to facilitate journalists’ mobility and ensure they can work. 17.1 IF & NOC Web Page The IFs, NOCs and National Sport Organizations are very important for this event. Environment The World Games 2013 Cali “Fair Play To The Planet” Introduction Environmental problems concern the entire world, as they affect the daily lives of each and every one of us. World experts emphasize the urgent need to respond to the adverse effects of global warming, climate change, the reduction of the ozone layer, loss of biodiversity, air pollution, pollution of the seas and water resources, the generation of waste and its mismanagement, among others, all of which have important negative environmental, social and economic impacts. Citizens, governments, international authorities and environmental organizations are demanding protection and care for the environment so as to safeguard the welfare of present and future generations. Sport, as a leisure and a physical education activity, plays an important role in today’s society. It brings together millions of fans worldwide, and through clubs, associations and other organizations, it constitutes a basic and well-structured network in society. Like all other human activities, sports also affect the environment. Global environmental problems are closely related to local conditions and the behavior of the communities living in each place. Therefore, it is important to consider the interactions of the sports communities with the natural environment in which they carry out their activities and find ways to improve the benefit of all, because it is clear that there is interdependence between sports and the environment. The World Games 2013 Cali is organized by the International World Games Association (IWGA) and Colombia, sponsored by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The latter has already established cooperative relations with the United Nations Environment Program (PNUMA), an institution that leads the worldwide movement for the protection of the global environment and has undertaken several joint initiatives, such as “Environment” being the third pillar of the Olympic Movement, alongside sport and culture. In this sense, the IOC has assumed a particular responsibility regarding the promotion of sustainable development, so that it promotes and encourages sports organizations to carry out friendly practices towards the environment and proposes to turn the environmental challenges into new opportunities, partnering the sports community in the sustainable development. The World Games 2013 Cali, will bring together multidisciplinary sports events in which about 4,000 representatives from 120 countries will participate, and which hundreds of spectators will attend. The organizing committee is committed to the environment and will ensure that 44 The World Games are held in conditions which demonstrate a responsible attitude towards the environment in compliance with the slogan “Fair Play to the Planet” Which Strategy Should Be Followed To Play Fair With The Planet? It is proposed to build, in association with the organizing Committee for the event, an Environmental Action Plan for The World Games 2013 Cali which involves, among others, aspects such as: • • • • • • • Measuring the Carbon Footprint. Minimizing the environmental impacts of the World Games as a whole, and with respect to the facilities and associated infrastructure. As far as possible, efficient use of resources (water, energy). Sustainable mobility (considering local situations). Integrated Management of solid waste (PGIRS). Compensation of the Carbon Footprint. Ecological Restoration. Recovery of the landscape and new green areas. Awareness raising, training, education and environmental commitment, increasing knowledge and natural resource protection. For The World Games staff, attendees, people from Cali, Colombia and the World. Ecological Marketing, (Communications, advertising). All this will be done from a realistic point of view, considering the short time before the beginning of the event, the human and financial resources at the disposal of the organizing committee, the different parties, their strengths and the ability to establish strategic alliances with suppliers, partners, people and institutions that can contribute with additional knowledge and support to enhance the environmental achievements, always considering the particular circumstances and the available resources. With strategic partners we seek to enhance the actions of the event organizers. 45 Credits Ana Lucía Tenorio Production Max Bishop Editorial Advisor Hermman Kewits Editoral Coordinator Monica Naranjo Production Assistant Editorial and Translation Staff Brenda Valencia - Writing and Translation Consuelo Arcila - Writing Julia Arcila - Writing Lina Bibiana Ordoñez - Writing and Translation Erika Rengifo - Translation Monica Naranjo - Writing, Translation and Edition Olga Cecilia Gómez - Writing Viviana Burbano - Diagramming and Graphic Designer Cali, Colombia May 2013 46
