OTHMAR SCHOECK – INTERNATIONAL LIED DUO COMPETITION 2016, BRUNNEN / SWITZERLAND REQUIREMENTS OF ENTRY The International Othmar Schoeck Lied Duo Competition 2016 is open to singers and pianists of all nationalities born after 31 December 1982. A preliminary jury will decide which candidates will participate in the Competition. Up to 20 duos will be selected from among those duos who register electronically by the due date and who submit the complete documentation required. All decisions of the preliminary jury are final; no explanations will be given. There is no legal recourse. Registration is only accepted via the electronic registration form. A video recording (upload or link) is required for the application, preferably of 3 songs of the Lied repertoire (no excerpts), but not necessarily by Othmar Schoeck. If you choose Schoeck, the repertoire on the video can be used again for the competition. REGISTRATION Closing date for the electronic registration: 17 July 2016. A participation fee of CHF 80.– per duo must be transferred to the following account: Schwyzer Kantonalbank, 6431 Schwyz IBAN: CH10 0077 7008 5004 1140 9 BIC/SWIFT: KBSZCH22XXX Othmar Schoeck Festival 2016 Grossmatt 32 6440 Brunnen/Schweiz Please include the reference: “Competition registration”, plus the names of both participants After receipt of the registration fee, the official registration of the duo will be confirmed and will be legally valid. The registration fee will not be refunded. Accommodation with half board in Brunnen or nearby will be provided by the Competition organizers to the duos invited, starting on 5 September. This offer ends in each case on the morning after a duo has been eliminated from the Competition. Rooms with piano for practising or rehearsing will be available. PIZES The following prizes are awarded per lied duo: 1st Prize CHF 6000.– 2nd Prize CHF 4000.– 3rd Prize CHF 2000.– Audience Prize CHF 1000.– Moreover, the two winning duos will be invited to perform at the following festivals/chamber music cycles in 2017 and/or 2018: – Das Lied / Liedzentrale Bern – Künstlerhaus Boswil – Musiksommer am Zürichsee – Davos Festival – young artists in concert IN COOPERATION WITH MARKANT-STIFTUNG Musiksommer COMPETITION GENERAL REMARKS All songs must be sung by heart and in the original language. Only the pianists are allowed to use scores. Transpositions are allowed, even self-written, provided they are absolutely faithful to the original. The jury has the right to interrupt the performances. iTunes and Amazon offer the opportunity to listen to the complete edition of Schoeck’s songs on the Jecklin label. A worklist and information on editions of Othmar Schoeck’s songs are to be found online at the following address: www.musinfo.ch. Competitors are reminded that they should play from original copies or from copies owned by their respective university, not from photocopies. After registration, the repertoire submitted by the participants is binding and cannot be altered subsequently. The whole competition is open to the public. The final round is an official concert on the programme of the Othmar Schoeck Festival 2016. The participants hereby authorize the Othmar Schoeck Festival to make audio and/or video recordings of their performances in the Othmar Schoeck Lied Duo Competition, and to use these recordings for marketing or other purposes at the discretion of the Festival organizers. REPERTOIRE The competition will be held over three rounds. All songs are by Othmar Schoeck. 1ST ROUND (TUE, 6 SEP. 2016), GRAND PALAIS, CONCERT HALL – Three songs to poems by Joseph von Eichendorff Maximum duration: 15 minutes Announcement of the results: 7 p.m. Grand Palais, Concert Hall 2ND ROUND (WED, 7 SEP. 2016), GRAND PALAIS, CONCERT HALL – One song to a poem by Eduard Mörike – One song to a poem by C. F. Meyer – One or two songs (free choice) Maximum duration: 20 minutes Announcement of the results: 7 p.m. Grand Palais, Concert Hall 3RD ROUND (FINAL RECITAL) (FR, 9 SEP. 2016), 7:30 P.M., GRAND PALAIS, CONCERT HALL – Two songs to poems by Gottfried Keller – Three to four songs (free choice) – One song from the previous rounds Maximum duration: 30 minutes AWARD CEREMONY After the final round, the jury will make its decision, and votes will be counted for the Audience Prize.
