Wanted! - your Value For Money ideas
In the latest STAR survey 91% of respondents were happy with the
services they receive for the rent they pay.
We will continue to improve by putting customers at the heart of all our services,
and by delivering services in the most cost effective manner.
The more we drive down our costs the more value-added services we can
provide - such as additional welfare reform advice, helping people into work and
supporting local communities.
If you have any suggestions for how we can improve the Value for Money of
the services we provide, we want to hear! Your idea could win you High Street
vouchers. Any savings made will be reinvested into your local community.

...Vice Chair
Liam Houghton.
Liam joined Parkway Green Youth
Panel (PGYP) in its early days after
being introduced by a friend who had
helped found the group. He attends
Manchester Health Academy and comes
from Northern Moor.
Liam supports Manchester United and
is interested in becoming an engineer
when he leaves school.
During this summer, Liam was voted in as Vice Chair
and is showing some fantastic leadership skills. He is
able to engage with young people and has a flair for
seeing the bigger picture – what PGYP can achieve
with its community activities.
He says: “I really enjoy my time at PGYP and my new
role of Vice Chair is helping to equip me with new
skills and experience for the future. We’ve just written
our new manifesto and we hope to carry on delivering
projects for the next year!”

New apprentices – the class of 2012
Three new construction apprentices have joined Parkway Green to learn trades
such as bricklaying, painting and decorating.
They are following in the successful
footsteps of four construction
apprentices who were recruited into
the PG React team last year from four
Wythenshawe high schools.
Employment Initiatives Manager
Victoria McDowell said: “With the
support and encouragement from
the Employment Initiatives team,
their managers, college tutors and
the apprentices of 2011, we expect
this year’s intake to be every bit as
successful.
“We have every confidence that the
success of these apprenticeships will
keep Parkway Green’s award winning
repairs service on the map, delivering
a high standard of service for many
years to come and developing the
skills of young people in the area.”
It’s a first!
Parkway Green has been working with Willow Park
Housing Trust to develop our apprenticeship scheme
and we are amongst the first housing providers to
run dedicated pre-employment courses for entry level
positions and apprenticeship programmes.

Focus on Community Safety Update
The Community Safety Team has recently obtained an
injunction for behaviour which caused distress to others
living nearby in Royal Oak.
and offering support from various agencies, but the
family continued to behave anti-socially.
Tenants are responsible for every person living or
visiting their property. In this case the antisocial
behaviour included the customer, her family and visitors.
It involved verbal abuse, allowing use of cannabis
and groups of youths to congregate and behave in an
intimidating manner at the address in Royal Oak.
We worked closely with residents and Greater Manchester
Police to gather evidence and made an Application to
court for an injunction order which was obtained to last
for 12 months. The injunction stops the tenant and their
visitors and children causing ASB and nuisance, including
abusive and threatening behaviour. A breach of the
injunction may result in this tenant losing their home.
Parkway Green used a number of interventions to stop
the anti-social behaviour including; joint evening patrols
with the Police, warning the tenant about her behaviour

New goals
for Friday nights
A new programme of events for young people from
across Wythenshawe has kicked off with football on
Friday evenings at the St Paul’s High School.
Other activities look likely to follow, including dance/drama,
boxing and multi sports in the school’s indoor hall, as the
scheme, run by Greater Manchester Police, gathers momentum.
The programme is aimed at 13-18 year olds,
providing fun activities and a real alternative to
hanging around on streets for those who might
otherwise be tempted to become involved in antisocial behaviour.

Counting up the legacy
The success and the lasting legacy of the

partnership by Parkway Green and Willow Park Housing Trusts,
Wilkinson’s, M.P.T, Manchester City Council, the Manchester
United Foundation, Wythenshawe Hospital, Wythenshawe Forum
Trust, The Manchester College, ConnectIN and Pride Sports.

the sporting facilities the whole area has to offer and an
opportunity for the entire Wythenshawe community to come
together and help celebrate in the magnificent surroundings
of Wythenshawe Park.”
We’re rooting for Rosehill!
Parkway Green is digging in deep to support the Rosehill
Community Farm & Garden which plans to regenerate and
transform a disused allotment site and wasteland.
The project, near West View Court in Northenden, was officially
opened by MP for Wythenshawe and Sale East, Paul Goggins, and
PGHT Board Member Cllr Fran Shone. The project is also supported
by six other partners and the Big Lottery Fund.
Parkway Green Chief Executive Nigel Wilson said: “Rosehill
Community Farm and Garden supports our vision of a brighter future
for Wythenshawe. It is fantastic to see how much hard work has
gone into this project and I look forward to seeing how it develops
over the coming months and years!”

Fun...tastic!
When Tenants and Residents groups marked the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with
‘Wythenshawe Together’ it was also a celebration of the strong local community spirit.
The event, in Wythenshawe Park, was supported by
both Parkway Green and Willow Park Housing Trusts.
Chairperson of Wythenshawe Together, Pat Higson,
said: “It was a fantastic community celebration and
I would personally like to thank everyone who came
down and who helped and got involved in making the
event such a huge success.
“This again was another example of the
great community spirit we have here in
Wythenshawe and I look forward to seeing
how we can build on this for next year.”
Next year’s event is pencilled
in for the 3 August 2013.

Keeping you posted
Make it a
...fect Christmas
Help your pets enjoy
Christmas as much as you!
Keep them away from:
•chocolate - it is toxic to dogs
and bad for all pets
•wiring they might chew – like
your fairy lights
•festive plants such as
Poinsettia, lilies, holly and yew
which are poisonous to pets
•turkey bones - they can make
pets choke!
•pine needles which can spike pets’ paws
If the weather is cold. beware!
•keep dogs on a lead near frozen water
•Check before you drive – car loving cats
sometimes climb into warm engines!
•If the temperature drops keep pets indoors
– in freezing conditions they too can
get frostbite or hypothermia.

your window
on safety
Better to be safe than sorry! If
your home has been fitted with a
fire exit window, make sure you
know how to use it.
The windows were fitted during
our upgrade programme to
each first floor habitable room.
Every fire exit window has a
green button on the handle and
allows the window to open fully
should you need to escape a
fire or for any other reason.
A simple child restrictor is fitted, but
unhooked easily for escape purposes.
We recommend all customers try out the
window so you know how to use it in a real
emergency. If any part of the window is not
working properly call us on 0300 111 0000
and we will arrange for it to be repaired.
Flourishing!
A project by customers to transform
unused land behind West View
