Tuesday 30 November Tuesday 7 December Steve Tallis Band Mo’ Candy (with Danny Loong) Steve Tallis is an Australian griot, a blues shaman. Perth born, he has lived and performed in the US, Europe, Mexico and Asia – supporting some of the biggest names in music. Steve‟s influences include Leadbelly, John Coltrane, Tim Buckley, Captain Beefheart, Sun Ra, Van Morrison, Howling Wolf, Tom Waits, Jack Bruce and Bob Dylan. Hall of Fame in 2004. Since 2008 he has lived in France and the PBC is very happy to have him back for this special visit. 43 Cambridge 43 Cambridge have never followed the trends, instead writing music they love as it comes, with most songs evolving from long writing sessions. Rock is the best word to describe the band's style, but the songs can be very diverse. Musically, 43 Cambridge's songs have both a light and dark . The guys play over a hundred shows a year, relentlessly touring around the nation with their own bus and P.A. Julius Lutero (Trio) WA‟s Julius Lutero is one of those musicians you want as your best mate and on first meeting feel you‟ve known forever. With influences rooted in the blues Julius‟ musical style has evolved over time to add funky grooves, acoustic ballads and what he calls „melodic reggae‟ to his essentially warm and melodic style. To see and hear Julius perform is an experience that will leave you with a new best friend, a nd a st ran ge ye t compelling desire to go out and change the world for the better. Perth‟s hip organ trio, Mo' Candy, cook up a swingin‟ mix of Texas shuffles, New Orleans funk, ‟60s soul-jazz and gritty Chicago boogie. Spearheading Mo‟ Candy is the dynamic vocal and guitar style of Trevor Jalla, who has returned to Australia after four years in Singapore, during which time he fronted Universal Blues Band at the International Blues Challenge 2003 in Memphis and Buddy Guy‟s Legends in Chicago. His soul-blues vocals complement a hip guitar approach reminiscent of Albert Collins, Jimmie Vaughan and T-Bone Walker that is at once authentic and refreshing. The engine behind the band is the inimitable Hammond organ of Bob Patient. A blues icon in his own right, Patient is one of Australia‟s finest players who regularly performs with international acts. His fat bass lines and thick chord-melody approach set up the foundation for the trio‟s unique sound. Drummer Joe Whittle is equally at home in the blues, jump, funk, soul-jazz and hard bop idioms. He adds a groove that draws deep from the rich history of African-American music. Mo‟ Candy are sure to satisfy even the most die-hard blues fans. Be sure to catch the trio for a mo' better time! Danny Loong co-fronted uBlues and still lives in Singapore. An avid blues fan and a mostly self-taught musician, he is a gifted pianist, guitarist and harpist. Teamed with his good friend, Trevor, this will be a night to remember for all. Blue Shaddy Singer/songwriter and guitarist Jim McClelland, his brother Belly (harmonica) and Sandra (bass guitarist and wife of Jim) were born and bred in WA's remote Wheatbelt – a harshly beautiful environment complete with dust and flies, but with not a lot else to do but focus on their shared love of music. When you listen to Blue Shaddy‟s songs you get a strong sense of where these three come from and it is very much apparent that their heart still lies in their country roots. Currently between the studio and the old stone homestead recording their latest album (due for release next autumn) Blue Shaddy have had an ultra-busy 2010 playing on stages all over the country. The summer festival season looks busy, so take this opportunity to catch Blue Shaddy Live @ the PBC. Rick Steele The PBC President grows in stature and enigma by the gig. Revel in a musical life well lived. Tuesday 14 December Marco & The Rhythm Kings Once in every blue moon, a band hits the scene with the perfect ch em istry and everything just seems to fall into place. Marco & The Rhythm Kings have truly got that mojo workin‟... smokin', in fact. Re-uniting Tornado Alleycats‟ Marco Agostino (vocals/rhythm guitar) and Andy Jarvis (lead guitar), along with killer rhythm section Neil Bushby (upright bass) and Brian Booy (drums), these rockin' cats tear it up, with wild rockabilly and swingin' rock‟n‟roll to blow your dance shoes off! Boom! Bap! Pow! Fronted by dynamic vocalist, Novac Bull, Boom! Bap! Pow! is their name and trashy doo-wop pop‟n'soul is their mission. Nominated for three 2010 WAMI Awards and recently revving up the North Coast of WA on the WAMI regional tour up Boom! Bap! Pow! have also supported The Four Tops, The Temptations, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, Royal Crown Revue, Steven Malkmus & The Jicks, The Miracles, Mary Wilson of The Supremes, Joan Osbourne (USA) and Bluejuice Perth Blues Club Tuesday 21 December Christmas Party Dreaming of a Blues Christmas? Well you know where to be, when the PBC sings in the yuletide season with a special festive performance from the PBC Santa Band – featuring Wayne Freer, Bob Patient and Ric Eastman – with a li‟l help from special guests Bill Rogers, Annie Neil, Patrick Woodley, Doreen Pensio and Rick Steele. Collard, Greens & Gravy CD launch Highly-acclaimed blues trio Collard Greens & Gravy are returning to WA to launch Juke Joint Boogie, the fifth album by this multi-award winning blues act. The album‟s direction is based upon the early Sun Records' Blues recordings, of such artists as Howling Wolf, Junior Parker and Doctor Ross. “The music of those artists had a raw, primal, rough and tumble, which despite being record in the 1950‟s, sounds more mean than most recordings since” says vocalist and harmonica player Ian Collard. The album marks a new first for the band, in that they have recorded mixed and mastered digitally. Just as the studios recording blues in the 1950‟s were pushing the technological possibilities of capturing the sounds of the artists, so this new album is a recording utilising the technology of 2010. Tuesday 28 December Chain and guests The iconic history of the great Australian blues band Chain was added to this year when Matt Taylor was inducted into the WAM Hall of Fame at the PBC‟s Charles Hotel home back in May. He leads Chain into a new year at this show, surely the most awesome end to 2010 for any blues fan worth their salt. … also performing tonight is singer/songwriter P J O‟Brien. November - December 2010 Barrel House - Tuesday 23 November P ort Macquarie-based trio Barrel House came together in early 2007 when singer/guitarist, Dwaine Cameron, felt the need to experience a bigger onstage experience that he just couldn‟t fulfil playing solo. In searching for this experience he recruited two amazing local musicians in Jarin Penniall and Jorden Howell to form Barrel House, a three-piece blues, roots, rock, dance and funk outfit that in its short existence has plenty of people taking notice. The „experience‟ has since been attained but by no means settled for. Barrel House are continually challenging themselves to make each show better then the last. With over 250 shows under their belt, covering a good chunk of Australia, Barrel House are working very hard to become the ultimate live band. While there is structure around their live set, no two performances will be the same as the band like to feel their way through each and every song, often letting crowd reactions determine the length of a particular section. It is these grooves that keep people out of their seats all night. Nasty Dogz The Big Old Bears The Nasty Dogz are a tight, professional three-piece hardhitting rock and boogie band performing rock classics served with a bite. Their repertoire ranges from original material through to the classics of Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Cult, Black Crowes, The Cruel Sea, Rolling Stones, ZZ Top, Doors, Pink Floyd, SRV, AC/DC, Rose Tattoo and right through to newer, up-todate material from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Live etc. Hailing from the hills of Perth, these young musicians are creating a new sound with an old feel. With influences dating back to 1920s blues, folk and ragtime, and the use of many different instruments. Known for their high energy, banjo-swinging, fiddle-grinding tunes, The Big Old Bears will keep your foot tapping all night long!.
