has the female
touch
Marissa Clark and Rebekah Bujtor give
true meaning to the description “handson”. Not only do the bubbly 28-yearold physiotherapists use their hands
for a living, they are hands-on building
a business that provides quality healthcare services.
The two friends, who attended school
and university together, are co-directors
of The Wentworth Point Family Medical
Practice, which opened in The Piazza
last month. This new venture follows
on from the pair’s Newington Family
Medical Practice, which has been
providing medical and health care to
this area since 2007.
Marissa and Rebekah have fitted out
their new practice with the latest medical
equipment and technology, offering the
best possible services for their patients.
The practice is staffed by two highlyqualified and professional family GPs,
Dr Kathy Roncevic and Dr Anthony Yap,
who provide family medical services,
including
childhood
immunisations
and travel vaccines. The doctors are
Workcover and DVA approved.
Dr Roncevic has a special interest
in women’s health, while Dr. Yap is
highly regarded by his patients in the
Newington area.
Since the new practice opened
residents have warmed to the friendly
staff and their personal approach.
“The doctors and staff are happy to
be providing professional and familyoriented medical care in a comfortable
and relaxed environment that’s in a
convenient location for the community,”
said Rebekah. “We have received good
support from residents. Marissa lives at
The Waterfront, and we have developed
many friendships here.”
Over the coming weeks The
Wentworth Point Family Medical
Practice will introduce a skin cancer and
cosmetic clinic, which will perform skin
checks and minor cosmetic procedures,
such as Botox.
rebekah (left) & Marissa (right)
The local practice is linked with
the Newington facility, which offers
additional
health-care
services
such as psychology, physiotherapy,
remedial massage therapy, dietary and
gynaecology.
New bus service
A new government bus service,
no. 526 starts on 21 March, replacing
the Community Bus which makes its
last trip on Saturday 20 March.
The
government
service
to
Strathfield Station will travel down Hill
Road, through Newington, Olympic
Park and on to Strathfield and Burwood
Stations.
Using this service will help secure its
future and improve residents’ access
to the wider area, reducing reliance on
private cars.
The Waterfront’s residents at the
start of the bus route are crucial
in preserving the service from this
location. With a growing community
comprising
Mariners
Cove,
The
Waterfront and Harbour Side, this new
public transport is a great advantage
to commuters and other travellers,
including visiting family and friends.
Appointments at both Newington
and Wentworth Point Family Medical
Practice can be made on by calling:
9739 8828. However, the staff will
always do their best to accommodate
walk-in appointments.
Fairer fares
The new ‘My Multi’ tickets save you
between $500 and $1100 per year.
It’s a win for the Wentworth Point
Community as it puts a cap on our
transport costs. Find out how the
savings work, at the information
meeting (see below).

He’s the colourful guy who
arrives at The Waterfront on a
motor bike and enlivens The
Piazza with his larger-thanlife personality. Travis George
certainly doesn’t look, dress or
act like a priest, yet he has played
a sort of “Father confessor”
during the five years since
establishing Travis George Hair.
Travis is a willing and valuable
sounding-board, and he says
offering considered advice just
comes with the job he loves.
“Clients build a special trust
with their hairdresser that,
over time, can develop into
friendship,” says Travis.
“For me, knowing something
about
a
client’s
lifestyle
plays a big part in creating a
personalised hairstyle for them.
I love that aspect of the job,
and though I have heard some
amazing confessions from the
chair over the years I firmly
believe these should be kept
behind the salon doors!”
While Travis maintains a
priestly ‘vow of silence’ over
salon conversations, he was
prepared to divulge to Village
Talk that males are becoming
as concerned as women about
their appearance.
“It’s the New Age,” he said.
NEW DAY SPA
Life just keeps getting better
at The Waterfront. The newest
attraction at The Piazza is Viva
le Spa. Village Talk got the
low-down on how they plan to
reinvigorate your body, mind
and soul.
“Relax-Refresh-Reconnect”
is the slogan and the formula
Viva le Spa is offering locals
who love being pampered. If
you yearn for well-being and
indulgence, this new salon is for
you.
Richard Anthony and his wife
Sandra bring their five-star spa
services to The Waterfront, after
taking a well-deserved two-year
break from the industry.
The couple started ‘Urban
Fringe’ at Newington five years
ago, which proved incredibly
popular. Within just three years
they had opened eight ‘Urban
Fringe’ beauty and hair salons
throughout Sydney.
“The stress of running so
many salons took its toll on us,
so we sold the business and
chilled out,” said Richard. “We
are now fully refreshed and
ready to start again. However,
this time, we’re not looking
for expansion – we’re
sticking with just
one salon.”

“Around 35 per cent of our
clients are men, and a good
proportion of them have
highlights or a colour put in
their hair, and they also spend
a considerable amount on hair
product.”
“Not that there was anything
wrong with that”, Travis added
in Seinfeld-esque style.
aromas fill its five treatment
rooms. Clients can enjoy beauty
and body therapies, facials,
massages, manicures, pedicures
and spray-on tanning.
For the more adventurous,
there’s
microdermabrasion
– a thorough body scrub using
oxide crystals to remove dead
skin cells and cleanse pores.
Laser hair reduction is available
too, which is where unwanted
hair is removed by intense pulse
light.
The service list also includes
waxing, anti-ageing treatments
such as Botox injections and
body piercing.
“We chose The Piazza for
our new salon because it is so
relaxed and we always have an
enjoyable time when we come
here,” said Richard, whose
brother Gavin and his wife Karin
live at The Waterfront, along
with three other good friends.
“We often eat at the
restaurants here, and have
formed an affinity with the
area.”
Viva Le Spa is offering a
range of special packages,
some including lunch. A loyalty
card for residents saves 15% on
each treatment, so be sure to
visit soon.

Travis has 23 years of
international
experience
in
London, North America and
Europe. Two other full-time
international stylists are on
his team – Katherine from
Columbia and Ruth from
London. He describes his salon
as “boutique”, comparing the
quality of his services with that
of a fine dining restaurant. “If
you want pub food, then we’re
not for you.”
From the moment you enter
the salon, be prepared for fivestar service. It
starts with the
offer of a drink
– wine, beer or
n o n - a l co h o l i c
– and some
cheese
and
crackers, then
the pampering
starts, with a
soothing
hot
towel and scalp
massage treatment. Leaving
clients
feeling
relaxed
and
pampered is all part of the
personal service.
Travis says hairdressing is an
artistic outlet that lets stylists
express their flair.
“Being able to make clients
feel special about themselves
is what’s most rewarding. If we
look good, we feel good, so
going to the hairdresser should
be an experience people look
forward to.”
“We create an individual
style with the emphasis on
maintenance,” said Travis. “It is
pointless walking out of a salon
with a funky, cutting-edge style
if you can’t recreate the look
when you get home, so part of
our job is educating clients on
how to maintain it.”
This education will extend
to monthly workshops called
‘Girls Night In’ where the team
will teach women – and men,
too – the art of blow-drying,
styling and how to care for
their hair at home. “We are also
going to introduce an exciting
new mineral make-up retail
range which we’ll incorporate
into our workshops, as an addon to our hair services. We’re
also looking forward to working
closely with Viva Le Spa, next
door and joining forces to offer
some amazing hair and beauty
packages.”
Travis has generated such
a widespread clientele that
he opened a second salon in
Broadway a couple of years
ago.

Smart
international
design
The Australian property market is
about to undergo a revolutionary
change, brought about by smart
new design ideas being introduced.
Japan’s largest home builder, Sekisui House, is
working with Payce on the ‘next generation’ of
apartments which will introduce lighter, brighter,
better living areas; improved storage space and
universal design for improved ergonomics.
Sekisui House was founded in 1960 with the
philosophy of creating healthy and harmonious
community environments. It will complete two
million dwellings this year, and has annual sales of
approximately AUD$26 billion in Japan.
In 2007 Sekisui house successfully developed the
world’s first carbon neutral house. This is one in
which the energy generation equals the energy
consumption.

take a look
at us now!
You
know
what
makes
Wentworth Point special, but
the majority of Sydneysiders
have no idea about Sydney’s
newest suburb.
It’s not often there’s a call to
‘brand’ a place, but that’s just
what happened recently. After
the name change took place,
The Waterfront decided to play
a part by helping to ‘re-brand’
the area.
The resulting campaign from
local research, ‘I am The New
Sydney’ is now appearing on
ads, web pages and marketing
material.
The
message
residents
wanted to send was, “I love
my neighbourhood. I’m part
of the community. I encourage
others to live or invest at
The Waterfront at Wentworth
Point.”
The aim of the promotion
is to make Wentworth Point
a proud new ‘brand’ and to
share and promote this ‘secret
destination’ with others. By
renewing the suburb’s brand
in line with the new suburb
name, Wentworth Point will be
positioned as an aspirational
community lifestyle.
Branding is a reference
point that builds reputation.
More than a logo or a catchy
tag line, a brand sums up all
the important elements with
clarity and style. The consistent
theme “I am the New Sydney”
will emphasise what’s unique
about Wentworth Point and set
it apart from other locations.
Wentworth Point to turn green, white and red on March 14
Food, fashion, fun, frivolities and
Ferraris will be key ingredients at
this year’s Italian Festa on Sunday,
March 14.
The free day-long Festa celebrates
La Dolce Vita – Italian for “The sweet
life” – and showcases the finest aspects
of Italian lifestyle, including produce,
wine, music, song and dance.
There is something for every
member of the family.
For the adults: pizza-making
challenges,
chocolate-making
demonstrations from the on-site
Chocolate Café, a competition to
find Sydney’s best barista, and wine,
cheese, olive and beer tastings.
For the kids: games, rides, face
painting, art and pottery workshops,
a jumping castle and an animal farm.
The Italian Festa will be held
from 10am to 5pm in The Piazza.
Restaurants ‘Concerto’ and ‘Cucina
Visconti’ will offer mouth-watering
specials during The Festa, while the
Bocce Club will provide authentic
Italian sausages in-a-roll from their
BBQ trailer.
Keeping the entertainment coming
will be singers, dancers and fashion
shows.
“This event celebrates Italian
culture and brings out the passion in
all of us,” said Luciano Casmiri, who is
President of The Bocce Club.

library upgrade
You can’t always tell book by
its cover, but the new-look
library at The Waterfront is
one you’ll want to use regularly.
One stage of renovations have
finished, with additional new
shelves and magazine racks
plus better signage making the
library easier to use.
“We have freed up space and
are displaying the books and
magazine more professionally
now, so finding what you want
should be simple,” said head
librarian Phil Mulhearn, who
stressed that the upgrade is
on-going.
“We have at least 80 regular
users, and our numbers are
growing. So is our collection of
reading matter.”
There are 10 volunteer
librarians on a roster, at your
service. Make a visit soon to
check out the renovations – and
a few books too.
The library is open Monday
to Saturday from 9am to 5pm,
and on Wednesday from
6.30pm to 8.30pm.

The past year has had its financial
ups and downs, but the PWIG
portfolio continues to hold up well.
Its ‘Dogs’ strategy has proven itself,
with dividends boosting the group’s
bottom line. PWIG chose high

and more recently and just for fun,
a ‘dartboard’ approach was trialled
that was very successful. The group

Walking for
Pleasure Club
This is a popular and fast growing
club at Wentworth Point. It is run
in conjunction with The NSW
Dept of Sport and Recreation.
The leaders of the Club are locals
who live at Wentworth Point. The
group goes walking in the Sydney
area once month. Once a year
there is a walk either outside of the
Sydney area in NSW, interstate or
overseas. Last year a number of
members completed the Milford
Track Guided Walk in New Zealand.
A truly spectacular walk in one of
the world’s most pristine areas.
In November this year we are
walking in the Snowy Mtns. We
will be walking in such areas as

This is the catchy, totally apt name for The Waterfront’s newest club.
It has been established to help people overcome glossophobia,
which is the technical term for the fear of public speaking.
If you have this ‘affliction’ you are not alone
- 75% of the world’s population shares this
fear. The good news is that it can be overcome.
Speak For Yourself meets every second and
fourth Monday at The Function Centre, from
7.30 to 9.30pm, with refreshments provided.
What differentiates Speak For Yourself from most
other public speaking clubs is its informality. “We aim to
make each evening fun and, by doing that, people start to
relax and enjoy themselves. When this happens, their anxiety about
public speaking lessens,” said Ingrid Hoppe, whose experience comes
from Toastmasters. Ingrid runs the meeting group with the assistance
of three colleagues and the support of regular attendees.
“As people’s confidence grows so too do their skills, and before too
long most people actually start to enjoy speaking and socializing
in public.”
“Becoming a competent public or social speaker can help in so many
ways on a professional and personal level. It helps in job interviews,
increases your value to your employer or your clients, strengthens
your leadership qualities, enhances your ability to communicate, be
understood and be heard, and it improves your social skills.”

Paul
Residents at The Waterfront are
a happy bunch, but it would be
hard for anyone to match the
enthusiasm of Paul Marchant.
Paul had even more reasons to
smile recently when 80 friends
at his 50th birthday party
included team mates from
The Waterfront’s Bocce Club,
who gave him a personalised
fluro red Bocce Club jacket
and a double set of coloured
Bocce balls.
Paul is a keen player who
wins most of his matches,
according to fellow players.
“I’d never played it until
I moved to The Waterfront
about a year ago, but I had seen
lawn bowls on TV and there are
some similarities,” said Paul.
“I like everything about the
game, but the best part is the
company of my team.”

Paul is the second-youngest
of five sons. While the other
four have settled in far flung
parts of Australia, Paul remains
at home, “looking after mum

The Marchants do everything
together; water aquaerobics on
Tuesday, pilates on Wednesday,
the community barbecue on
Friday, ballroom dancing on
Sunday, plus taking long walks
almost daily.
“Paul’s also quite a good
dancer,” said Win. “We dance
to a live band at the North Ryde
RSL, and Paul is a real hit with
the ladies. He loves them and
they love him.”
“Paul gives us so much
love, and has made us, and our
other four sons, better human
beings,” said Ken. “We are a lot
more tolerant of others, more
patient and, I suppose, more
caring.
“Everything we’ve done for
Paul has been reciprocated
many times over. He is so loving,
so funny, and has such a lovely
disposition.”
Paul is a sporting aficionado,
watching it constantly, and has
played cricket, rugby, soccer
and tennis. But undoubtedly
his special love is bocce, where
club president Lou Casmiri
reports good news. Funds are
being steadily accumulated to
replace the existing court with a

Corsica
Our next new building
A trio of contemporary buildings called Corsica, containing
215 apartments ranging from
one-bedroom to three-bedrooms, will be constructed on
the corner of Baywater Drive
and Hill Road.
Work is scheduled to begin
in April and is expected to be
completed in mid 2011.
Stepping down from eightstoreys to six, the three buildings
are grouped around a central
courtyard of native trees, plants
and vegetation.
Architects
Robertson
+
Marks have given the buildings
a co-ordinated look of visual
interest and character. Pergolas,
sunhoods, balustrades and
external shutters will be set
off against facades combining
face bricks with rendered and
painted masonry. Setbacks and
voids will create contrasts of
light and shade.
The interior designs at
Corsica will focus on natural
light and cross-flow ventilation.
Living areas and bedrooms
make the most of privacy and
solar access, flowing on to
terraces and blurring outdoor
‘rooms’ with the indoors.
Layouts at Corsica will be
functional with clean lines.
Quality fixtures and fittings and
special touches like tiled entries,
recessed lighting, high-grade
carpets, built-in and walk-in
robes, video security intercom
and 24-hour security will be
standard.
Kitchens will have stone
benchtops, semi-gloss polyurethane cupboards, stainless
steel appliances and polished
chrome tapware. Bathrooms
and ensuites have ‘floating’ vitreous china basins, frameless
mirrors, polished chrome taps
and mosaic tiles.
Most apartments at Corsica
will overlook parkland or the
leafy courtyard. The placement
of clear and opaque windows
has been carefully considered
to maximise privacy. External
screens and blinds will allow
residents to control their
environment and make the
most of the elements.
Communication
facilities
including
broadband,
pay
television and surround sound
will be standard available
services.
With no newly-built apartments
available
at
The
Waterfront, demand for Corsica
will be strong. A marketing
centre has been established at
The Piazza, which is open daily
from 9.00am to 4.00pm.

WILLIAMS
A FRESH
APPROACH
TO HOUSING
Compare us and you’ll find nothing
like The Waterfront
The resort-living atmosphere here
at The Waterfront is what makes
this project so special. With such
diversity in property type from one
bedrooms right up to penthouses, we
find people from all age groups and
all income levels happily enjoying
the range of community activities,
recreational spaces and fabulous
social connectivity that is possible in
this suburb.
Now is a great time to purchase
property, whether you are an owneroccupier or investor. Taking advantage
of competitive pricing.
I invite you to look around and
compare The Waterfront with other
properties in the area – consider the
value, the quality and spaciousness
of the apartments, the lifestyle, the
surrounding parklands and the spirit
of community.
For personalised service and
genuine advice on new and
established apartments, call us at

A vision beyond the next
generation is the driving force of
The Waterfront’s new partner,
Sekisui House. A continued affinity
between people, places and the
environment will build on the
successful lifestyles in this
unique village.
‘For people to live comfortably
in one place and thrive over the
long term they must have
communities that enrich their lives’.
This is the urban development
charter of Sekisui House, and the
basis for creating communities that
age well, along with their residents.
Perhaps this concept is best
summed up by one of the company’s
principles: “building towns whose
beauty blooms with time”.
Sekisui House believes
consideration must always be given
to the next generation and the
balance between the environment
and society. In partnership with
Sekisui House, this is the principle
The Waterfront will follow.
“Societies everywhere face
issues forcing us to redefine our
relationship with the earth. We
urgently need to turn our social and
economic systems away from the
habits of consumption and towards
more sustainable alternatives,” said
Mr Abe, Director.
“We feel that by designing
high-quality dwellings that last for
generations, residents are happier
and their environment is better
cared for. Towards this end we are
strengthening our systems to better
integrate residential construction with
lifestyle enhancement. We are also
working to establish new design and
construction processes that provide
greater value to society.
“We will continue to promote
change in all our corporate activities
with the goal of establishing greater
harmony between individuals,
communities and the environment.”
