The weather is finally breaking. That means our boaters are starting to
come back to the Harbour and another season is ahead of us.
We continue to work on plans for the new Harbour with our latest meeting
having been held on April 25, 2015.
There are a number of upcoming events and I hope you will support your
Club and its hard working Staff and volunteers by participating.
By the time this goes to print we will have had our Member Appreciation
Night and the Bar Grand Opening, as well as our Annual Fashion Show.
Check your Log for upcoming Fleet Cruises, Friday Night Entertainment,
Men’s Day (June 19th) and so on.
Lady Kathi and I look forward to seeing you around the Club.
Respectfully

VICE COMMODORE’S
REPORT
CHRIS COLTHURST
Our land cruise was a huge success! Our first stop was North Cape
Yacht Club where we were welcomed with drinks called “pain killers” and
a light buffet. I had an informative talk with Commodore Russ Atkinson
regarding the history of their Club and the process of redoing their bar.
Next stop – the Swan Boat Club. The view from the bar is the Fermi plant
that is right next door! Here we were welcomed with free drink tickets and
a large buffet lunch, all the while, a DJ was cranking out dance tunes.
Many of the group were busting moves on the dance floor. The party
was really rocking now. Our final stop was the DYC where we had dinner
and more beverages. Back at the Club most of the group came in to
have a nightcap or two or three. Thanks to Chris Hutchinson and Glen
Muir for arranging such a great day. Our Fleet Committee has many more
adventures in store so don’t miss out, sign up for guaranteed fun on
future cruises.
By the time you are reading this our annual Men’s Lobster Stag will
have been held. It was a sold out event with over 200 gents enjoying
great food, drinks and camaraderie. Thanks to all the staff and volunteer
servers who make this possible each year. I would also like to recognize
all the Members who unfailingly support this event. It is your Club and
your participation is what keeps it going and makes it the great place it is.
Congratulations to P/C Rick Zangari and P/C Denis Blondin who both
purchased new boats. May you enjoy many good times aboard your new
vessels.
Looking forward to WYC’ing you at the Club

GEORGE MCMAHON
Well the race buoys are in the water and we’re ready to go! Welcome
back everybody to an exciting Race Series event. Plans are a go to
start our Wednesday Night Race Series on May 13th. Plan on being
at our Club to witness the fleet pass the finish line at approximately
8PM. You won’t be disappointed to watch these elegant sailing boats
pass by our Club - witness our finishing line team score the boats and
hail their passing.
We are also underway to host our 43rd Annual Canadian Club Race
on June 12th. At approximately 5:30PM you can witness up to 70
sailboats (some of the finest sailing Lake St. Clair) cruise right by our
Yacht Club Patio Bar. Again, this cannot be done without the great
team I have in place to make it all possible. Come early and get a good
seat! We anticipate another great season this year and look forward to
seeing you all at the Club.

SECRETARY’S
REPORT
WAYNE PERKINS
Do you have a little extra spring in your step this month? Sure you do!!. April
showers have come and gone, the grass is green and our spirits are naturally
up lifted. Break out your shorts, walking shoes, roller blades and buggy to
push the grandchildren. Get outside Winter is history.
Of course with this time of year, two things are certain to happen ---first
congratulations to Dave (crazy) Poisson. He had his boat in the water on
Easter Sunday. Secondly, someone has to be the first person to fall in the
water. That honour goes to Terry Orr (are you dry yet Terry).
Anyone who participated in the Land Cruise to various U.S. Yacht Clubs in
April enjoyed a fantastic day, especially some of our new WYC Members, who
will come to realize that this is the beginning of our summer fun. There is no
better way to meet your fellow Members than on a Boat Cruise Weekend. We
often make new friends from other boat Clubs while at the various marinas.
Our Members are willing and able to share information about other places to
boat, but also very knowledgeable about boats, navigation, engines, sailing,
and general troubleshooting. Just ask!
We all know we are all Members of a one of a kind Yacht Club in the city of
Windsor, so fly those burgees from the bow staffs of your power cruisers or
from the spreaders of your sailboats. Let other boaters see our WYC burgees
and wish they were part of the WYC.
See you around the Club or out on our beautiful waterways, but let’s practice
safe boating – there are rocks in these waters and none of us want to cut the
season short with a dinged prop or worse.
Oh, before I forget, let’s all wish Monica Hirn and Guy Pritchard Congratulations
on their upcoming marriage at the end of this month. Great couple.
Lana and I will see you soon - at the Club of course.

ROB TROUP
I would like to start by again thanking everyone for their support
in the Renovation of the Bar. I have included in this Month’s Log a
complete final report.
The May 1st Dedication will have taken place by the time you read
this report but I am sure everyone will be pleased with the outcome
of the event.
Also, the new menu will be out and I hope all will be pleased with
some of the additions the Chef has added for the summer. You will
notice the second Friday of each month we are featuring a themed
buffet, this month’s buffet will feature Mexican.
It is that time of year to start thinking about the Annual Men’s
Fun Day at Metro Beach. This year it is on Friday, June 19th in
the North Harbour as in the past. Last year we had 20 boats and
125 ppl. I am hopeful with the event on a Friday this year we can
increase the numbers of boats and people. I will be posting a Sign
Up List at the Club. All you need to do is email me or the Club with
your boat name and how many people will be attending. You can
charge the tickets to your account or whatever fashion you wish to
pay for them. Please try to inform us as early as possible. I have
to commit to Metro Beach 10 days in advance. Due to increase in
cost of U.S. money, we had to increase the cost of the tickets by $
5.00. As in the past, Customs will be on hand and all you need is
a Passport, I-68 or Nexus to attend.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on this traditional fun day with
the Club.

Instructions

3.
In order to provide uniformity,
& save possible embarrassment
due to any misunderstanding,
the following are guidelines for
members and visiting yachtsmen
who wish to participate in the
Blessing of the Fleet.
All boats should be clean and “dressed” for the day in their “Sunday Best”.
Suitable yachting attire should be worn: no abbreviated clothing or bathing
suits. If you wish to dress up the crew and passengers, etc. - do so and with
style, it’s a fun day as well as a solemn occasion.
Captains and Crews are invited to join members and guests in the
Club/on the grounds so they can participate as the Fleet Chaplain
conducts the Blessing Ceremonies. At the conclusion of the ceremonies,
personnel will move to their boats and then leave the harbour to
form up for the procession. DOCK STAFF WILL BE AVAILABLE
TO ASSIST IN AN ORDERLY DEPARTURE. PLEASE EXERCISE THE
UTMOST CAUTION IN LEAVING THE HARBOUR AS MANY WILL
BE DEPARTING AT ONCE.

8.
9.
10.
11.
12.
13.
14.
Non-boating members and guests wishing to watch and participate in the
Sail Past Ceremony should gather on the patio.
Captains and Crews should rendezvous in the vicinity of R”DP2”.
All boats should monitor Channel 68.
The WYC Fleet Captain will form a procession, starting near R”DP2”.
The procession will move up stream, in single file headed by the Fleet
Captain, followed by the Police agencies in attendance, boats of the
Flag Officers and then members of the Windsor Yacht Club. Following
the procession will be the craft of other Clubs/squadrons/guests in their
particular groups.
Flag etiquette is to be observed: National Flags, Club Burgees to be
flown as applicable. Torn, tattered or faded flags/burgees are not to be
displayed.
While passing the Reviewing Base, passengers should stand, if safe and
possible, with headdress removed, facing the Reviewing Party to return the
compliment being extended to them.
To ensure safe boat handling, the Captain need not remove headdress
or return the salute. A quick “eyes-right” will suffice.
Refreshments should be out of sight while passing the Reviewing Stand.
The National Flag/Ensign that is flown should be dipped, then held while
passing the saluting base. If unable to dip your colours simply stop the
flag from flying momentarily with your hand.
Immediately after passing the “Reviewing Stand”, Captains will make a left
wheel (port turn) and proceed to the centre of the channel. This maneuver
will keep the entrances to Riverside and the City Marina CLEAR. The
procession will disperse at this point.
At the conclusion of the Sail Past, the Reviewing Party will move to the
WYC harbour to provide the Blessing to vessels remaining at the wells.
CONTINGENCY PLAN
In the event of inclement weather:
Ceremony continues as planned (indoors)
There will not be a sail past.
Following ceremony, Captains and crew man their boats in the harbour
The Reviewing Party will proceed to conduct a Blessing for each vessel in
the harbour.

BAR RECONFIGURATION AND MODERNIZATION
PROJECT FINAL COMMITTEE REPORT.
On July 14th, 2014 a meeting was held with the Membership to vote
on a proposed Bar Reconfiguration and Modernization, while there was
apprehension what the impact that the new design would have on the
existing room and view the Members voted to proceed.
After a short fundraising effort the work was undertaken to start on
February 15, 2015 and with Members geared up the old bar was gone in
a matter of 5 hours.
Over the next few weeks and hundreds of donated man hours and
materials from Members the bar took shape and was accomplished and
opened on Friday March 6th, with a few items on back order nevertheless
we were up and running.
On March 27th the new Captain Bar Chairs lastly arrived and the
concluding touches in the room were now completed.
The Committee truly believes that the Operational Advantages of the new
bar as laid out at the meeting July 14th were achieved.
Right from the beginning Members came forward to contribute time,
material, and ideas, and from this truly collective effort the room turned
out extraordinarily well for all of the Members.
With all of that being said the room could have not been finished without
the Member’s donations to the Bar Reconfiguration and Modernization
Fund. A total of $ 38,900.00 in cash donations through the purchasing of
bar stools and chairs was achieved. A number equal to that was donated
in time and materials by Members.
The Committee would like to extend our appreciation to the following
Members.

North Cape Yacht Club was our first stop followed by Swan Boat Club.

DAVE POISSON
The harbour is now open and the water is on. Wells are substantially
filled and there are only 5 left. They are all smaller, and the Board
of Directors have determined that these final unrented wells will be
classified as seasonal rentals for the balance of the 2015 boating
season. The season is now on so please use care when travelling
the dock area and when boating.
