Mounds Newsletter Sun Prairie, 24 22 Montana Ave., (608) 825-9800 831-3000 • Middleton, 8311 University Ave., (608) Can you help us find love? Zena has had a difficult life, having been originally rescued from an abusive home. She is a four year old pit mix who came into the shelter when her owner could no longer care for her. Zena has been with us since January and is a shelter favorite among both staff and volunteers. For more information on Zena please contact the Sauk County Humane Society at 608-356-2520 or via email at [email protected]. Zena Jersey Jersey has been looking for her forever home for over a year and the adoption fee has been waived. Jersey is an active 3.5 year old Doberman mix who loves to play fetch, but would also love a couch to relax on too. She knows lots of commands and would prefer to go to a home without other pets or very young children. For more information on Jersey please contact the Iowa County Humane Society at 608-935-1381 or via email at [email protected]. wisconsin vest-a-dog OMost were shot or stabbed by the suspects they ver a dozen police K-9’s are killed each year. were attempting to apprehend. Sadly, many law enforcement agencies and police departments do not have the funds to purchase body armor that can save the lives of their police dogs. The cost of each vest is around $850 to $1000 depending on which vest best suits each dog. In July Mounds donated $0.50 per 35 lb. bag of Mounds Dog Power sold to help purchase safety vests for local police K-9’s. Thanks to your purchases we were able to raise enough funds to vest some local police K-9’s. The Dane County Regional Airport and Dane County Sheriff’s Office recently welcomed the newest member of the Dane County Bomb Squad – a two-year old K-9 detector dog named Lord, originally from Holland. Lord and his handler, Deputy Scott Lindner, will conduct searches of airplanes, unattended or suspicious packages, freight from the loading dock, and other safety and security checks as needed. Lord is certified in explosive detection techniques and is trained in 19 explosive odors. Ty is a male Black Lab from WinDogs in Middleton, Wisconsin. He is partnered with handler Deputy Tony Enger. Ty is trained in tracking, search and rescue, both land and water cadaver detection. Ty is used to locate missing or lost persons, article/area/building searches, disaster events such as a Tornado or crashes, and criminal investigations. Ty serves Local, Regional, State and Federal Government entities on Search and Rescue incidents. Rico is a Belgian Malanois and was imported from Holland to Vohne Liche Kennels in Denver, Indiana. He is partnered with handler Deputy Keith Kelly. Rico is trained as a dual-purpose canine because of the multiple jobs he performs. Rico is a certified narcotics detector dog. He is also trained in tracking and aggression. Rico can find suspects by following their odor trail on the ground. He completes building and area searches for suspects. The vests for the new K-9’s will be provided by Wisconsin Vest-ADog. Wisconsin Vest-A-Dog was started in 2005 and is a non-profit, tax deductible organization endorsed by the Wisconsin Veterinary Association. For more information on how you can help vest a local police K-9 go to the Wisconsin Vest-A-Dog program website www.wivestadog.org. 0 • Madison East, 2110 S. Lucy who just passed (at 17 1/2 years old!) and Ivy is our 7 year old. Lucy was a Brittany Terrier Mix and Ivy is a Rat Terrier/ Chihuahua Mix. Our dogs have always been on Dog Power All Life Stages. On the food, they’ve always maintained an excellent weight. They have had consistent, healthy stools - never diarrhea or soft stools. I feel good that the food is made in Wisconsin. Our friend’s tried to get us to switch to another brand dog food to save us $3 per bag. We wouldn’t even consider it. It isn’t worth the potential health risks to save a few bucks. I strongly believe that Mounds brand dog food has contributed to our dogs’ overall health. I like that it is affordable and that there are Mounds locations in and around the Madison area making it easy to purchase. Ivy is also an excellent mouser. She and our cat work together as a team to take down mice! (Some people might not like this...but we live in the country and this is very helpful!). On a side note, we also have our cats on the Mounds Purrfect Cat. Lindsay F. eMployee of tHe MontH W e would like to recognize the following Employee for their outstanding work at Mounds. Megan Richards is a full time lead sales associate at our Mounds Janesville location. She is described as hardworking, dedicated, reliable, efficient, and fun to work with. Megan is most knowledgeable about cats and nutrition. Recently she has been filling in for the store’s inventory receiver while still fulfilling her managerial duties. Megan is great even under pressure; she just keeps working through whatever gets thrown at her without getting flustered. In her free time Megan enjoys spending time with her 3 cats, riding her bike, and hanging out with friends.
