After the strategic planning process was finalized during 2013, we revised our mission and values statement to remember the past and chart a path for the coming years. Our mission is to provide vision and leadership to support thriving and diverse arts in the Mid-Hudson Valley. We value the abundant presence of art in the Mid-Hudson Valley and its ability to uplift, empower, and engage. We honor diversity and celebrate creativity. We are committed to playing a central role in supporting and promoting all the arts in the communities we serve. When the Arts Council was founded in 1964, the community volunteers who envisioned an organization to serve the local arts and culture never dreamed it would go beyond Dutchess County. Twenty-five years ago, the Dutchess County Arts Council was asked to administer the New York State Council on the Arts funding in Ulster County, and eight years ago, the Ulster County Legislature asked that the Arts Council administer funds for Ulster County arts organizations. During 2012, the New York State Council on the Arts, in an effort to regionalize their funding distribution, asked the Arts Council to take on Orange County grants administration, and during 2013 spring we began this work. In order to more effectively serve the broader region we now support, including Dutchess, Ulster, and Orange Counties, we have officially changed our name to Arts Mid-Hudson. Paul Tesoro Board Chairperson During 2013, in preparation for our 50th Anniversary in 2014, and recognizing that government and municipal funding is decreasing, we began planning ways to become more sustainable through building our membership base and connecting with a broader community. We have done this with the assistance and talents of our active Board of Directors and staff, individual and business sponsors, and volunteers throughout the region. We will continue to showcase the arts in our region because the arts are more than a diversion: they inform curious minds, uplift weary hearts, empower individuals, strengthen communities and their local economies, and engage people from all walks of life. We thank you for your continued engagement. We are humbled by your trust in our work, and we look forward to celebrating the 50th year of partnering with you.
