SCHOOL MINIBUSES DRIVERS REQUIRED
The
school
minibuses
continue
to
be
used
frequently throughout the
year and are greatly valued
by
children
and
staff.
Already in the current school
year they have been used
on 34 school trips, including
cricket
finals,
dance
competitions, theatre visits
and choir concerts.
One
of
the
biggest
limitations for use of the
vehicles is a shortage of
drivers. We are keen to hear
from parents and carers
who would be happy to
occasionally
drive
the
vehicles on school trips.
Appropriate training would
be provided.

WORLD BOOK DAY FILLS SCHOOL WITH
FUN…AND BOOKS!
On
Friday, 7th March, Belleville celebrated World Book Day in style.
At the beginning of the day, every class received a gift of many fascinating books.
They came fabulously gift-wrapped and with a special note for each class. Miss
Avison, who had co-ordinated the whole day, told our team that over £4,200 had
been spent on books, which each year group had requested. Everyone has been
thrilled to have new books to enjoy in their classrooms. When the books arrived
Owena, Year 6, reported: “I couldn’t wait to touch these new books and get
reading”.
Belleville children and staff came with costumes of favourite book characters and the
playground looked incredible as Harry Potters and Alice in Wonderlands spent the
day with monsters, princesses, superheroes and movie stars! The Year 6 teachers shot
their way into the school dressed up as Katherine Barlow the red-lipped killer from
Holes which is a fascinating book that the Year 6 children have been studying this
term. Rachael, Year 5, dressed as Little Red Riding Hood, informed us “I like the
dressing up and it was really fun I particularly liked Alice’s Hagrid costume.” There
were many people who could not be recognised because their costumes were so
convincing! Miss McFayden commented, “The fact that everybody was dressed as
their favourite book character brought it all to life.”
The fun never stopped as the whole school had a mind blowing performance by
professional actors, Chris and Kate. There were different West End performers at
Webb’s and Meteor sites and the quality of the performances really were top
quality. Owena, in 6W, declared to us “it was a unique day!” Also Rachael, in 6W,
stated that “I should never judge a book by its cover.” These talented performers
really brought the shows to life and involved all the children in the fun. Every child
wanted this day to go on forever! This would be a Book Day that everyone would
remember for a long time to come. Miss Avison, the amazing organiser, concluded,
“It was a fabulous, creative book-filled day with costumes, performances and much
excitement all around.”

CRICKET ACHIEVEMENT
Congratulations to Madeleine Blinkhorn-Jones, 6SJ, who has been selected to play for
the London Schools Cricket Association U11 cricket team. It is a great achievement for
anyone, especially a girl in an all boys’ team. She will also have the honour of
captaining the Surrey Girls U11 team this year.

MEDASI! (THANK YOU)
Ghana Day was a huge success! The children were dressed in the colours of the Ghana flag, enjoyed dancing to
afrobeats at lunchtime and took the healthier option of buying fruit and vegetables at the end of the day. Parents also
took the opportunity to buy second hand uniform. A total of £1062.01 was raised. Medasi! (Thank you)
CAKE SALE IN AID OF CROHN’S AND COLITIS RESEARCH - THANK YOU!
We are delighted that James Prior and his team arrived safely in Barbados, following their epic row across the Atlantic. The
generosity of Belleville parents, carers, staff and pupils was amazing and the cake sale held on 7th March to raise funds for
medical research into finding a cure for Crohn’s & Colitis raised a phenomenal £745.50. Online donations can still be
made at: http://www.crewingforcrohns.org.uk
BELLEVILLE’S INDOOR CRICKET SEASON
During the winter, Belleville’s indoor cricket team (Jago 5J, Leo 5L, Maddie 6SJ, Scarlett, Lauren, Lottie, Dylan 6S,
Mackenzie, Christian 6W, Bonnen, the captain and Natasha 6FJ) earned their place and are now the fourth best in
London and best in Wandsworth. Some of the rounds took place at the Oval and the final was played at Lords.
In the first round, we were aiming to win the Maurice Fulcher Cup and this was the qualifier for it (at the Oval). There were
about eight teams there (including Honeywell!). We won the first match – and the second and then the rest! So we tried
our best and won all our matches. Lottie said “I enjoyed it sooo much I love being out there and playing other teams.”
When the time came to play for the Maurice Fulcher Cup, at the Oval, everybody was buzzing with excitement and
energy. Maddie said, after claiming a couple of sixes and fours, “It was so thrilling and entertaining – I just want to do it
again!” We had achieved our original goal; our new goal was to be the best team in London.
Next it was the qualifier, played at the Oval, to earn a place for the finals at Lords. There were only three teams there but
we beat them all. However, the competition here was definitely the hardest we had faced all season yet. Mackenzie said
“It was really fun diving around out there!” To the finals!!!
It was an early start for all, at school by eight o’clock and everyone was tingling with nerves and excitement. We were
slightly early for it, but we had a chance to see what we were up against. We were the only team that had been here
three years in a row! The schools we faced were Elmhurst (Newham), Grasmere (Hackney), Myatts Gardens (Lewisham),
North Primary (Ealing), Woodside (Waltham Forest), ST Michaels (Haringey) and Sir John Lille (Hammersmith and Fulham). In
the first round we played Woodside, St Michaels and Sir John Lille. We won all our matches and in the first match (against
Woodside) we topped up about 123 runs! Next were the semi-finals where we were chasing a large amount of runs
against very good fielders and, sadly, for the first time in the season we lost the match. It really knocked our confidence
and we lost the third and fourth place match as well. The finals looked tough and St Michaels, who we had previously
beaten, took the trophy home. But fourth best in London isn’t that bad at all!
