Difficult Stains and Restorative Materials: Niveo us is ideal fo r t reating discolo red te et h*, yet some sta ins do no t bleach well, so be sure to info rm pat ients of t his prior to bleaching. Intrinsic sta ins fro m te t racycline may req uire additio nal t ime and applicat ions. Hypocalicified areas may whiten faste r t han t he rest of t he ename l and beco me more visible.The co lo r will blend after t he bleaching process has bee n co mpleted and t he te et h are re hydrat ed. Do not use Niveous Liquid Dam on pat ients with know n sensitivity to resins. Do not use bleach produ ct o n pat ients who are pregnant or nursing. Resto rative mat e rials w ill not be affecte d (whit ened). It is reco mmended that the whiteni ng trea tment be comp leted prio r to placing any restoration and that a two week wa iting t ime occ ur befo re placing any resto rat ion s req uiring ad hes ives. It is not recomme nded to anest hetize t he pat ie nt for t he bleaching proc edu re . A liquid dam or rubber dam must be used when using N iveous . Patient Pre-Procedure Instructions: Shou ld skin contact occur, immedi ate ly rinse with cop ious amounts of water. Shou ld eye contact oc cur, flush wit h water and seek immediate medica l at te nt io n. If an aller gic reac tion occurs, wash area wit h copious amo unts of water and se ek medic al at tent io n. It is reco mmende d t hat t he pat ie nt have a profession al prophylaxis appointment using non-fluoride, non -flavored prop hy paste before the whiten ing procedure, as plaque may inhibit the effectiveness of the pero xide. Use Shofu's One'G loss" PS po lishers pr ior to the white ning procedure to remove difficult sta ins and to prepare the tooth surface . Patient Post-Procedure Instructions: Pat ients sho uld refra in from alco ho l, tob acco or any sta ining food o r dr ink (suc h as co ffee , tea, w ine and da rk co lo red fru its) fo r 48 ho urs after t he bleaching procedure . Warnings and Contraindications: N iveo us bleaching gel contains 25% hydrogen peroxide. Use cautio n and appro priate personal protect ive equipme nt w hen handl ing. N iveo us bleach ing gel is contraindicat ed for pati ents w ith a chem ical se nsit ivity or allergy to peroxide and glycol, for pat ien ts with exposed o r possibly exposed dentin or cem entum , and for patients wit h det e riorated or leaking resto ration margins. 3 DIRECTIONS FOR USE e . Express mat er ial into the embrasure spaces and fill ent ire ly. Step-by-Step Instructions for Bleaching Vital Teeth: f. Upon co mpleting t he placement of t he Liquid Dam, light cure material fo r 20 seco nds, making sure t hat all material is polymerized en t irely. (See Fig. 1.3) I. Before beginning the proc ed ure , reco rd the shade of t he patient 's te et h fo r future refere nce. 2. Remove th e ent ire kit from refrige rato r, with sufficient t ime t o bring pro duct t o roo m tempe ratu re . g. Remove any excess material wit h a hand inst rument using care not to dislodge t he entire Liquid Dam. TIP: To accelerate wa rming, re move individ ual ampules from t he package. 3. C lean and pre pare teeth according to pre-proce dure instruct io ns. 4. Isolate th e teeth to be bleached using Niveous Liquid Dam mate rial pro vided in th e kit as fo llows: (No te: A co nven t ion al rub ber dam may also be used.) '\.~ , a. Syringe Liquid Dam onto gum tissue .Try not to exc eed a th ickness of 2m m, as t his may inhibit th e light curing and require addi tiona l curing time . (See Fig. 1.2) d. Bring the Liquid Dam on to the gingival crest , co mpletely co ve ring the gum tissue . 5. N iveo us is a heat activat ed product.T he ampu les sho uld be wa rmed, w hich can be accom plishe d by either: - O Rb. Remove ampu le fro m th e wa rming source and cut off th e tip. (See Fig. 2) 7. App ly bleaching ge l direct ly on to the toot h surface . Place a t hin layer of bleach ing ge l o n the area of t he to ot h to be w hite ned. 8. Use a Booste r Brush to distr ibut e and act ivate the ge l fo r 3 - 4 se co nds pe r to oth.T he bru sh es will make t he ge l foam, indicati ng th at th e whitening oxidat ion pro ce ss has begun. (See Fig. 3 and Fig. 4) a, Use a ne w Booster Brush for each ap plicat ion (3 applicat ions =3 Boost er Brushe s) Step-by-Step Instructions for Bleaching Non-Vital Teeth: Exterior Surface s: I. Fo r bleaching o nly the exterior surfaces of a no n-vital to oth, please use inst ruct io ns I th ro ugh 13 above. 2. The use of a phosph oric acid etch will speed up and enhance the bleaching results ; please fo llow th e etchan t manufactu re r's inst ruc tions . b. Two to t hre e applications of IS minute pe r io ds are reco mmended. (Not e:The bleaching gel must stay on the teet h fo r a minimum of IS minut es per applicatio n.) 9. Afte r eac h app licat io n, re move the bulk of bleaching gel, taking care no t to rem ove the Liq uid Dam. T IP: A dr y enviro nme nt will achieve bette r results. Rinse with water o nly after t he final applicatio n. 10. Upo n com plet e remova l of the gel, thorou ghly rinse wit h water and air dry te eth. I I. Remove Liquid Dam mate rial using a hand instrument. Flo ss may be use d to re move the mate rial inte rproximally. 12. Fo r extreme ly dark teeth . additio nal appo intm en ts and applicatio ns may be nec essary. 13. Inst ruct patient t o fo llow post -pro cedure inst ruc t io ns. 3. Fo r maximum white ning results, additional appo intm ents might be necessary. Interior Surfaces: I. To access the pulp chamber. open the lingual surface of tooth and remo ve composite and gutta percha 2 - 3mm apicallyto the long axis of the tooth . Place a cement base, such as Shofu's Hy-Bond Polycarboxylate Cement or any crown and bridge cement, approximately Imm thickness between the sealed po rt ion of t he ro ot and t he bleaching gel. 2. Remo ve th e warmed amp ule from t he war ming so urc e. cut off t he t ip and apply it directly into t he o pe ned pulp cham be r. 3. Use a Booste r Brush to distribute and act ivate t he N iveo us bleaching gel into t he chambe r for 3 - 4 seconds per tooth. T IP: Fo r maximum results, apply t he gel to all surfaces of t he tooth t hat are be ing bleached . 4.Three o r more applicat io ns of IS minute perio ds are reco mmen ced. S. Floss may be used to remove t he mat erial inte rproximaly.
