Artist Jessica Hedrick will paint 365 portraits
The Face of Kelowna Artist Jessica Hedrick will paint 365 portraits, capturing the important role that each individual plays in making Kelowna an exceptional place to live. Proceeds from this project will fund wellness initiatives for Kelowna citizens through the Canadian Mental Health Association, Kelowna and District Branch. It is free to show solidarity and support for those living and recovering from mental health issues. Everyone who has their portrait painted will receive a digital image of the painting. You can then choose if you would like to make a donation or an order. The project will culminate in an art show where all 365 portraits will be displayed and available portraits will be up for bidding in a silent auction. Submit a photo, share your story, grow your community #GetLoud for mental health. Project Goals and Impact The protective role of community and a sense of belonging is well established when it comes to mental health. Participants in this project are uniting to form a community by showing their support for a mentally healthy Kelowna. Mental health issues and illnesses have an impact on all of us. 20% of Canadians will experience a mental illness in their lifetime and many more will experience some form of poor mental health. This means that at any time, you are likely to have a family member, friend, or colleague who could use mental health supports and services. Despite this high number, many people still feel too ashamed, alone, or afraid to seek help. Having your portrait painted shows your solidarity with those living with mental health issues. This collection of 365 portraits is a powerful way to send the message that Kelowna stands united to support recovery and wellness: You are not alone. There are people who care about you. This project will help increase awareness of mental health issues in Kelowna while also raising funds for wellness programming, resources, and advocacy. Participation and Donation Levels $20 - Contribute to the purchasing of art supplies for this project, such as canvases and paint. Tax receipts will be provided. $50 - Purchase a signed 8x10 print of your portrait.
