The Swiss brand Rodania, created more than 80 years ago in Lengnau, has
always been faithful to its core mission: ‘Creating and offering contemporary
watches with perceived value at affordable prices.’
Year after year, it pursues a quest for improvement in order to give everyone
access to timepieces that embody our passion for style and precision.
This Rodania Brand Manual will be your partner for everything that concerns
our brand. We thank you for your partnership and wish you all the best in this

THE COMPANY
In 1930 the Rodania brand was created in Lengnau. Later, the epicenter of its
activities became Grenchen, in the heart of the Swiss watch industry. It was from
here that the brand started its conquest, step by step. Grenchen remained the
center of the Rodania activities for decades to come.
HISTORICAL MILESTONES
THE BRAND
A Swiss brand with proven reputation, Rodania has been producing the finest
watches since its foundation in 1930. Since then, Rodania has always been
positioned as a brand that respects the essence of watch-making.
Nevertheless through the years, the brand proved to be contemporary and creative
without following every volatile fashion trend. It has always been a prime issue for
the company to strive for the best price for quality. Rodania therefore wishes to
offer inspiring Swiss Made timepieces at a correct price. Moreover the company
has always been inventive when it comes to the product, uncompromising when it
comes to quality.

In 2011, Rodania offers two main collections: Swiss Chic and Mystery.
The Swiss Chic collection offers a wide range of choices for the true watch
admirers. For every occasion, whether it’s a dressed up or a sporty one. For every
defining moment with your family or friends, we have a Rodania watch to help
you capture it. From the classic Nelson models inspired by the Rodania watches
from the seventies, the ladies Adelis model orned with diamonds to a truly sporty
chronograph. Watches are equipped by Swiss automatic movements (three-hands
and chronograph) or by a Swiss quartz movement.
The Mystery collection offers ladies and gents quartz and automatic timepieces
made out of ceramic. Some ladies models are orned with full cut diamonds.
In order to promote its export activities, new distribution centers were established
in the early fifties: in Montreal, Brussels, Caracas, New York and London. In the
mid-seventies the worldwide distribution was organized from the Brussels sales
office. From here the Rodania watches still find their way to every corner of the
world. The growing success of the brand made continuous expansion of the
Brussels sales and distribution center necessary. Moreover, in order to support its
successful presence in France, a Lyon office was added to the company structure
in 2001. Today, Rodania remains one of few independent Swiss brands. The brand
has a retail presence in numerous points of sale around the globe with a focus on
the Benelux and France, and is yet present in some 30 other countries.

Your Rodania watch is guaranteed against all manufacturing defects for a period of 2 years from the date of its original
purchase. During the guarantee period the repair will be free of charge for labour and parts, if the technical service
accepts the defective part to be a result of a manufacturing fault. This guarantee will be granted only, when the guarantee
section, duly stamped by the retailer and completed with the date of purchase and reference number of the watch, can be
presented with the defective watch. None of these data may be altered, deleted, removed or made illegible. The free-ofcharge guarantee service can be refused if the warranty information in this booklet is incomplete or illegible.

An automatic watch is designed to never need a battery, thanks to its winding mechanism. The mechanism works because
of the motion of the human wrist, and it is the perfect choice for those who wear their watch every day.
However, we recommend that you bring your mechanical watch for service every 3 or 4 years (preferably once a year if the
watch is water-resistant and heavily used).
Moreover, if you do not wear your automatic watch every day, it is advisable to try and wind it at least twice a week. This
will ensure that the inside mechanism is in complete running order.
The most important reason of non-functioning of the watch is the effect of water or humidity. Therefore we advise to regularly
have a look at your watch to see if all parts necessary to keep the water out are still in good working condition: crown,
pushers, crystal. When damage or defects in one of these parts is detected, avoid all contact with water. You will find the
degree of water resistance engraved in the case back. This degree does not mean literally that you can submerge your watch
up to this depth. It indicates a standard fabrication norm, that guarantees that your watch has been tested to withstand an
atmospheric pressure, proving that all elements and gaskets are well in place and efficient. The water resistance will last in
time, depending on the use of the watch.
If any part, necessary to keep water and humidity out of your watch is deficient, missing or broken the mechanism of your
watch might be affected, disturbed or blocked. We advise a water resistance test every year, best before the bathing season.
Never use the pushers of a chronograph while being under water !

Return your quartz watch at the end of its service life to the available recycling systems.

The speedometer is used to measure the speed of an object. The maximum period to be measured is 60 seconds. Start
the timing operation and stop it again once you have covered a distance of 1 km. The chronograph hand then points at a
numeral on the tachometric scale (9), indicating the speed in km/h.

Setting the time
The scheme below shows the correct interpretation of the different case back inscriptions on your watch.
Pull the crown into position III; the second hand (1) stops at this point. Turn the crown clockwise or anticlockwise until
your watch displays the correct time. Whenever the hours hand passes the 12-o’clock position, you will see whether it is
displaying midnight (the date changes) or midday (the date does not change).

Like any object, your watch is negatively affected by dust, perfume, perspiration, pool and sea water. Salt crystals from
the skin could attack the metal of the case and the band, the crown and leather strap. We recommend that you clean your
watch with a slightly damp, soft cloth. the metal and the gold plating will retain their original colour and lustre longer.

Manual winding is necessary if you have not been wearing your watch for a considerable period of time. To restart it, you
only need to turn the crown a few times (clockwise), or tilt your watch from side to side a few times. To restore the power
reserve of your watch to more than 42 hours, you need to turn the crown 20 to 25 times (clockwise).
Whenever you wear your watch, the automatic mechanism is wound every time you move your wrist.
Before wearing or after an extended period of non-use, the movement must be set in motion by winding the crown
clockwise in its normal position.
Rodania watches in the mystery collection are made out of zirconium oxide ceramic. This high grade ceramic offers an
extraordinary resistance to scratches and surface damage. Furthermore, this lightweight material is chemically inert, which
creates comfort and avoids potential allergic reactions.
Importantly, however, the ceramic case or bracelet may break in case of a severe shock. Such damage is not covered by
the warranty. Therefore, please make sure that your watch does not hit or fall down on a hard surface. We recommend
that you do not wear your watch when performing hard physical work or sports.
In order to keep the bracelet flexible and shiny, wipe it regularly with a damp soft cloth. Take good care of your Rodania
ceramic watch and it will stay a beauty for many years to come.
• Damage to the crystal, winder, crown, pushers, battery, push-pins or watch band;
• Requests for replacement or reimbursement;
• Damage being a consequence of normal wear and tear or caused by mishandling, accidents or misuse
due to non respect of instructions for use and maintenance;
• Cost of transport and all risks of transport related directly or indirectly to the guarantee of the product;
• Repairs done and batteries replaced by a non professional watchmaker or not authorised technical
service or done by the customer himself;
• Damage or defect due to water infiltration after repair, if no water resistance test was performed
after a battery replacement or repair;
• Any damage caused by inappropriate use, such as sharp knocks, extreme heat, cold or magnetic fields.

Instructions for mechanical watches
Metal bands on watches with a minimum water resistance of 5 atm can be washed with cold water and a mild soap. Make
sure that the crown is pushed into place, and that the crystal is in good condition before making any contact with
water. Never use hot water. Have a professional watch-repair service replace the battery. A professional watch maker
knows how to check the gaskets and how to replace them, if necessary. Always explicitly ask to check the water resistance,
to make sure your watch remains water resistant and to keep the warranty after a battery replacement or repair.
INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY
3 ATM: the watch resists to accidental contact with water and normal perspiration.
It means no immersion in water, neither for swimming nor aquatic sports.
WATER RESISTANT 5 ATM: this watch resists to occasional immersion.
An annual control of the sealing gaskets is necessary.
WATER RESISTANT 10 ATM: the watch is suited for all aquatic sports, except diving.

All of our Swiss Chic models proudly bear the Swiss Made label. Recognized all around the world, this protected
appellation is more than a simple indication of origin. Indeed, only watches that tidily respect the following features
written by the Swiss legislation are allowed to bear this prestigious label on their dial:
The Swiss Made label is based on a concept according to which Swiss quality depends on the amount of work actually
carried out on a watch in Switzerland, even if some foreign components are used in it. It therefore requires that the
assembly work on the movement (the motor of the watch) and on the watch itself (fitting the movement with the dial,
hands and the various parts of the case) should be carried out in Switzerland, along with the final testing of the movement.
It also requires that at least 50% of the components of the movement should be manufactured in Switzerland.
These standards guarantee an exceptional level of quality, loyal to the Swiss watchmaking spirit.
