Vive la difference!
By Lydia Gard – author of littleluxlifestyle.com blog
Before I had children, travel was a
limitless horizon. You’d say adventure?
I’d say send me heli-skiing! Drop me
in a dense jungle! Mine’s a horseback
safari! Complete with frette linen and
daily massages, thank you kindly.
I always preferred to travel to cities
with names I couldn’t pronounce,
and islands reached by a string of
incrementally smaller planes and boats.
Crucially of course, the hotel at the end
had to be at once stylish and authentic;
exciting and cocooning. Quite simply,
I wanted the world on a plate. And the
truth is, I still do.
Just as high fashion and a high IQ
are not mutually exclusive, travelling
with children does not mean that you
should have to sacrifice adventure
or style. I haven’t lost my aesthetic
sensibilities simply because I now have
two small people in tow. Okay, the
having children than we are by having,
say, feet. Yours in wedged Carolina
Hererra espadrilles, mine in Penelope
Chilvers’ flats. Vive la difference! If not,
just imagine the queues for sun beds?
Personally, I’m still in pursuit of
genuine luxury and substance, though
my wish list has a couple more critical
elements: space for a travel cot,
availability of boiling water. When
two have become three, four, five…
there are more needs to consider, so it
pays to think about what you need as a
collective. If one wants downtime and
another, recuperation (not the same
thing, trust me) do you beach, spa
or combine? Is a shared exploration
likely to elicit harmony or quarrels?
Smiling holiday snaps or snappy
evening exchanges?
other’s busy lives, or spread into the
far corners of a hotel for uninterrupted
R&R, coming together at supper to
share stories.
What your clan needs is going to be
decided by the way you spend time
together, rather than where you spend
it. That’s why Carrier’s family escapes
are set out by experience, rather than
destination. Wherever you end up,
by choosing a bespoke, tailor-made
holiday you can be sure that even the
most varying demands will be catered
for. Except, perhaps, the ‘going in a
submarine with the Octonauts’ one.
You’ll have to just pretend you didn’t
hear that.
Then there’s the extra opinions. Some
children will burst into tears the
“I haven’t lost my aesthetic
sensibilities simply because I now
have two small people in tow.”
spirit of adventure has occasionally
been tempered by the threat of malaria,
the horror that is toddler jetlag, and
sometimes the logistics of extra luggage.
But, swapping a slow lap of the infinity
pool for hurtling down a theme park
water slide? I don’t think so.
Travel is personal, visceral. One
family’s ‘slept under stars’ is another’s
‘night under damp canvas never to be
spoken of’. We’re no more aligned by
instant a grain of sand spills onto their
flip-flops, while others run straight to
the water’s edge and bury themselves
up to the neck. One toddler may be
stimulated by cooking, painting and
dancing in a crèche, while another
spends a happy week clasping a finger
until they finally take their first steps
across the terrace.
Families with older children might
use downtime to reconnect with each

Villa Living – page 18
Family Beaches – page 46
Built-in babysitting, date nights and raucous family meals? It is
no wonder that multi-generational travel is on the up with the
privacy and freedom that comes with being ‘en brood’.
Not all beaches are created equal. These exotic shorelines are the
best for building sandcastles. Bucket and spade at the ready.
Water Babies – page 22
Snow Angels – page 50
From surfing to sailing, mangroves to marine discovery and of
course, the requisite dive with dolphins; get splashing.
They will be faster, braver (and cuter) than you on the slopes, but
there will be more snow angels than après ski meaning you will be
up fresh for the first lift. Small sacrifice.
All-inclusive Retreats – page 26
Close to Home – page 54
Yours is a massage, theirs, a mojito, poolside snacks for one,
jungle treks for all. Mercifully, there is no need for deep pockets
in your Orlebar Browns.
From grey skies to blue in less time than it takes to host a
play-date. All you need is sun cream.

Hike, bike, climb, ranch, ride? Deep sleep is guaranteed with
these adventures, complete with gulps of fresh air.
Half Term Sun – page 34
Head for the sun to boost family morale and enjoy precious

At your service
Award-winning service and expertise
We know that to travel is to make
aspirations come true for you and
your family. Every holiday that we
create is undertaken with the utmost
care and attention. Carrier has
specialised in luxury tailor-made holidays
worldwide for over 30 years and as
such, we have the depth of knowledge
and wealth of experience to ensure
that no detail is overlooked. With the
help of our award-winning specialists,
and the Carrier Concierge, we are
able to craft a family holiday that is
entirely suited to your requirements.
Achieving an optimum work-life balance is an aspiration
shared by many of our clients. So often, family holidays are
about quality time spent together and can therefore be some
of the most formative and memorable times of your child’s
life. Carrier has selected the finest hotels and resorts in
some of the world’s most exclusive destinations that excel
at welcoming families. We know that not all families want
the same thing from their holiday. Our curated selection
is your perfect starting point to explore some of the finest
experiences and escapes designed with families in mind.
We actively encourage and regularly arrange holidays for
families of all shapes and sizes; single parent families; multigenerational families; families accompanied by nannies and
extended groups of family and friends travelling from varying
locations. No matter what the composition and needs of your
family, the dedicated specialists at Carrier can recommend
the best options for you.
Our prices
The journey
We realise that the majority of family holidays will be taken
over peak dates. In an effort to present as indicative and
comparable prices as possible, all of the prices and savings
in this brochure are based on the lowest available over the
school holiday dates we would recommend for travel and on
two paying adults with either one or two children, as stated.
However, many of the special offers are available for travel
dates outside UK school holidays, meaning significantly
lower prices. Flight upgrade prices are based on a number of
selected scheduled airlines and low-cost carriers.
Often we include ‘little touches’ that you may not realise
are included in your Carrier holiday. Space and comfort
during the journey is uppermost and the reason why most
Carrier holidays include private transfers, executive lounge
access at London airports on mid and long-haul flights and
Fast Track Immigration in Barbados, Dubai, Bali, Egypt
and Oman.
Peace of mind
On arrival, Carrier can arrange VIP Meet and Greet in most
destinations; this can include being met airside, fast track
through immigration and assistance with baggage – highly
recommended for families with tired children in the party.
When booking with Carrier you may rest assured that your
holiday is fully protected. We are ABTA bonded and are
ATOL protected by the Civil Aviation Authority. In addition
– and of paramount importance when holidaying with
younger members of the family – all of the hotels featured
within this brochure have met the high standard of Carrier's
health and safety requirements.
Alternatively, opt to travel in style; Carrier is able to arrange
private jet charters to many destinations. Select the most
convenient airport, often only accessible to private aircraft
and enjoy the services of dedicated staff who will look
after every detail. Cabins are spacious, seating is ultracomfortable and the cuisine is gourmet standard.
Before you go
In resort
Wherever you choose to travel, you will want to know what
the destination has to offer for your family. The Carrier
Concierge is an exceptional resource at your disposal to
source ideas and book services in advance of your travels.
We can look after everything from arranging beach picnics
to babysitting and car-hire to entry passes for key attractions.
Carrier offers a complete out of hours emergency service,
ensuring you always have someone to call if you require
assistance during your holiday. In Barbados, Antigua and
Mauritius we have our own overseas representatives and
on-the-ground representation at most other destinations.

The best on the island
Sandy Lane – Barbados
The elegant Palladian buildings and
mahogany-shaded lawns of Barbados’
premier address, Sandy Lane, might not
seem the obvious backdrop for a family
holiday. Yet, the array of complimentary
activities available here for younger guests
almost surpasses the wealth of adult
refinements on offer. Arguably the best kids’
club on the island, The Treehouse Club
ensures children’s days are action-packed.
They can go horseback riding or sailing,
fly kites or get messy decorating their own
cookies. There is also a varied programme
of themed party nights and movie showings.
On the lower level, teenagers can play the
latest video games in The Den, take part
in tennis tournaments or try kayaking
or zip-lining. Holiday times are extra
special with Easter egg hunts, Halloween
parties, New Year Parades and Christmas
sandcastle competitions to enjoy. Turtlespotting snorkelling trips and banana boat
rides could make perfect family adventures
together and with four restaurants on offer,
menu choices for younger tastes are assured.

A blend of sophistication and child-friendliness
Anassa – Polis, Cyprus
A white-washed village-style resort
overlooking a secluded beach, Anassa
observes the Mediterranean tradition
that children should be at the heart of any
pastime. Set in a shady location between
the beach and the heated Mosaic pool, there
are five well-run clubs for children and
teenagers offering fun-filled programmes
centred on local culture. Adventurers,
three to five years old, are kept busy baking
Cypriot cakes or designing their own
mosaics whilst Voyagers aged five to seven
years old learn local dances. Pioneers, aged
2
eight to 12 years old can discover their
green fingers in the hotel’s kitchen garden
or visit the PADI dive centre. Family thrills
above the water include banana boat rides,
wake boarding or private cruises on the
resort’s own luxury yacht. On land, the
nearby Akamas Nature Reserve is perfect
for jeep safaris, mountain biking and coastal
rambles. Family dining is relaxed with
weekly beach barbecues, children’s menus
and regular music evenings in the village
square – children of all ages stay up late in
the evening making it a real family affair.

One of the largest kids’ clubs in Europe
ABAMA Golf & Spa Resort – Tenerife
Operated by the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company SLL
Exploding the myth that children’s clubs
are simply about painting pictures, the
ABAMA has collaborated with the Loro
Parque zoo, one of the Canary Island’s
biggest attractions, to offer its younger
guests a unique experience. This enables
visitors to Club Abami to interact with
wild animals and the experts who look
after them via live news feeds. Children
between the ages of four and 12 can develop
their creativity and challenge their minds
further in eight distinct activity zones and
a large outdoor play area. Mini scientists
can scrutinise insects under a microscope
whilst budding botanists plant new crops
in the vegetable garden. Spread across a
160 hectare private estate and boasting an
incomparable year-round climate, children
can explore at their own pace too; whether it
is riding the funicular down to the secluded
beach or finding their favourite pool for
a dip. Younger guests can enjoy dinner at
Club Abami whilst parents sample the two
Michelin-starred restaurants on offer.

Laid-back and action-packed
The Westin Resort Costa Navarino – Greece
Creating space for children to play is
a central theme at this family-focused
resort situated in an unspoilt corner of the
Peloponnese. The innovative children’s
club, SandCastle, borrows inspiration
from Ancient Greek legends with junior
archaeologist classes and pirate dressing
up sessions recreating historic sea battles.
There are also guided eco walks and
mountain biking trips. Decorated in a
driftwood theme mirroring the natural
dunes encircling the resort, the club is
run in conjunction with Worldwide Kids
Company – their global expertise perfectly
complementing the resort’s philosophy for
the creative engagement of children. Babies
and toddlers can take sensory explorations
at Cocoon which offers a range of musical
games, baby yoga, leaf printing and mini
football and golf sessions in both an indoor
and shaded outdoor setting. Enjoy family
time at the recreation centre with its own
aqua park, adventure playground, bowling
alley and cinema. Children are also catered
for at the championship golf course, racquet

Exploration and education
Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa – Muscat, Oman
Reminiscent of an Arabian palace, this
Moorish resort boasts extensive facilities
to keep children busy. The Cool Zone
Kids’ Club introduces younger guests to
traditional Arabian crafts such as henna
painting and paper weaving as well as
teaching them traditional dances and how
to write Arabic script. Outdoor adventures
include treasure hunts, kite flying and sand
city competitions on the three beaches.
There is also an Adventure Zone with drop
slides, soft play area and PlayStation 3
games along with GameZ where teenagers
can make new friends playing air hockey
and video games. Children will love having
water fights at the Splashpad play area and
meandering along the lazy river, inspired by
the centuries-old falaj system that brought
fresh water to remote Omani villages.
Tots will be entranced by camel rides
along the beach, whilst older children can
experience their first scuba dive or join a
yacht cruise. With 21 restaurants to choose
from, small diners are especially well
catered for, ensuring a relaxing end to
