TABLE OF
CONTENTS
On behalf of the Imagine America Foundation’s board members and staff, I
want to thank you for your help with our ongoing efforts to fulfill the vision of our
organization. Celebrating our 25th anniversary in 2007, the Imagine America
Foundation worked diligently and made a number of significant contributions
to higher education. In 2007, we advanced our strategic priorities, strengthened our financial results, increased the value of the Imagine America ® brand,
expanded our research capabilities, enhanced our ability to meet critical
challenges and built a solid foundation for future growth.
We continue to be driven by our firm belief in the common mandate of all educators to offer and provide
America’s students with the skills and competencies to compete at home and abroad. Career colleges offer
students skills that are critical to the health of the 21st century workforce. It is often said, and rightly so, that
education is the key. For our students, who predominantly come from low-income homes, are women or a
minority, career colleges offer them a chance at professional success. To understand the necessity and
benefits of career colleges in our country, it is the student’s stories of achievement which fully explain the
impact our schools have in equipping our nation’s workers.

As the Foundation embarks on its 26th year of service to higher education, we renew our commitment to our
original mission, which has been to provide scholarship and award programs for our neediest students, conduct
cutting edge research, elevate public awareness of career colleges and honor achievement in career education. In 2008 and beyond, our goal will be to continue the expansion of the work of the Foundation both in
terms of its breadth and its depth.
Research and Publications . . . . . . 14
We are especially grateful to the countless individuals, organizations and colleges who partner with us to fulfill
this mission. It’s our supporters who make it all happen—many special people securing and nurturing the
aspirations of our nation’s most valued resource. They believe, as we do, that the true measure of all our
successes can only be found in the accomplishments of our students.

EXECUTIVE
SUMMARY
T
Robert L. Martin
IAF President
To date, through the
Imagine America ®
programs, the
Foundation has
secured awards
and scholarships
for over 35,000
students enrolling at
career colleges and
universities all over
the United States
and Puerto Rico.
2
he Imagine America Foundation is
pleased to report continued
success in its scholarship, training and
research activities for the 2007 year. The
Foundation currently sponsors four scholarship and award programs, including
Imagine America (for graduating high
school seniors), Imagine America Promise
(for continuing career college students),
the Military Award Program (for active
duty, reservist or honorably discharged U.S.
military veterans), and the Imagine
America Online program (for online/
distance learners). To date, through the
Imagine America ® programs, the
Foundation has secured awards and
scholarships for over 35,000 students
enrolling at career colleges and
universities all over the United States
and Puerto Rico.
In 2007, over 425 career colleges nationwide participated in the Imagine
America high school scholarship
program. The Foundation processed
nearly 6,000 Imagine America high
school scholarships, with some colleges
offering as many as 500 scholarships to
incoming students. The 2007-2008
Military Award Program (MAP) currently
has 240 participating colleges with
nearly $1.5 million in MAP awards
already issued. Our new Imagine
America Online program secured over
$1 million in awards for students
pursuing an online education. In
addition, our Imagine America Promise
scholarship program, with corporate
funding, has provided more than
$450,000 in cash grants, which have
supported more than 500 students
continuing their career education.
The Foundation also continued sponsorship of the LDRSHIP Award, which
provides additional scholarship aid for
military veterans, and special programs
like the Gail Benjamin Fellowship, which
cultivates leadership training for the next
generation’s career education leaders.
Through the increased generosity of our
sponsors, in 2007, the Foundation issued
twice as many scholarships to military
veterans and three times as much fellowship grants to career professionals than
previous years.
In realizing the vision of our previous
year’s pledge to expand our capabilities, the Foundation established the 21st
Century Workforce Fund. Over $1 million
has been pledged to the Fund since its
creation. One of the Fund’s goals,
through new research and program
initiatives, will be to elevate the public’s
understanding of the vital role of career
colleges and their students nationwide.
In 2007, the Foundation published and
distributed In Service to America – a 165
year history of the career college sector
and the Economic Impact of America’s
Career Colleges – which studied the
$38.6 billion annual economic impact
of career colleges. We also published
our popular Fact Book: A Profile of
Career Colleges and Universities, which
contained important career college
statistics and trends about the postsecondary education sector.
The Foundation’s continued commitment to high-quality creative work,
cutting edge research, a persistent
focus on new technologies and intelligent investment are the strategies we
believe will continue to carry us
forward. None of this work would be
possible without the efforts of a dedicated staff, an active, fully-engaged
board of directors and hundreds of
career colleges nationwide – all
passionate about providing educational access for millions of career
college students each year. Based on
the tremendous success of our existing
scholarship programs, activities and
research publications, the Foundation
thanks its many supporters and looks
forward to a spectacular year in 2008!

21ST CENTURY
WORKFORCE FUND
E
ducational research has been an integral component of the Foundation’s
activities since its establishment in 1982. In 2007, the Founda-
tion created the 21st Century Workforce Fund. One of the goals
of the Fund is to conduct research that elevates the public’s
understanding of the vital role of career colleges and their
students nationwide. In years to come, the Foundation,
through financial support from the 21st Century
Workforce fund, will initiate research studies
focusing on the impact of career colleges, their role in meeting
the nation’s current skilled-worker shortage and other broad
public policy issues facing the higher education sector. Study
findings are first made available to fund contributors.
Additionally, the 21st Century Workforce Fund is committed
to finance and initiate awards programs that will assist
in educating America’s 21st century workforce and
prepare them for changes in our global and local
economies. The Fund also serves as one of our sector’s
most important tools in helping students obtain a
competitive education for the job marketplace.
Since its creation, over $1 million has been pledged to
the Fund. IAF supporters understand that the furthering
of career colleges and their students begins with the
contributions made today.
