T
he introduction of uniforms in schools
has been debated for decades. While
many private and Catholic schools have a
long history of school uniforms, today the
trend is growing - particularly in public
schools, and at the elementary level.
There are many benefits that have been
associated with uniform programs
The Benefits of a Uniform Program!
Lowers long-term clothing costs for students - the average annual cost of school
clothes is considerably less for students enrolled with a uniform program
Helps school officials recognize intruders who come to the school
Decreases violence and theft among students over designer clothing
Promotes a safer learning environment
Uniforms act as 'social equalizers' - they reduce competition to wear certain
brands of clothing, and, therefore reduce peer pressure
Enhances a sense of professionalism - uniforms are sometimes viewed as 'work
clothes’

wholly determines which families may require assistance, evaluate the appropriate level
of support and notify McCarthy's accordingly
