JUNE 23 MADERA
2013
Hal Magnie Band
The Hal Magnie Band has been swinging for almost 60 years, the Central Valley’s
longest running Big Band. The Magnie band has backed up some of the biggest
names in music and plays almost all of the original arrangements by the late Alan
Harkins, who played piano in the group for over 50 years. The band
is comprised of some of the Central Valley’s finest musicians,
including drummer Joe Lizama, who also plays drums for
Johnny Mathis. Vocalist Burke Lizama will be joining the band
again this year. From Swing to Latin, Bossa Nova to Rock and
Roll, the Hal Magnie Band continues to entertain, and hopes
to go another 60 years.
The Madera Breakfast Lions will be serving
up a delicious BBQ beginning at 6PM.
Proceeds from all concessions
at the Summer Concerts In The Parks Series
benefit community organizations.

Sounds of
Freedom
Founded in 1984, the
Association of the United
States Army (AUSA)
Military Band, known as
the Sounds of Freedom
Band, is a proud member
of the Association
of Concert Bands.
The band, directed by
Monte C. Gmur, is a patriotic group of volunteer musicians who combine their
talents in order to provide performances of artistic merit
for the benefit of the active military, our nation’s veterans,
and the community at large. Recognized by the Congress
of the United States of America, the AUSA Military Band is
the proud recipient of three Congressional Citations for its
patriotism, musicianship, and outstanding service to the
community.
Fairmead Community and Friends will be serving
tasty tostadas, fried chicken, toasted corn on the
cob, and other delicious picnic faire beginning at 6PM.

Remnants

The Remnants, a Central
Valley based band,
has been performing
together for over 12
years. Their repertoire
includes danceable music
for all ages. They have
performed at the Clovis
Farmer’s Market, the
Madera Old Timer’s Day,
and the Sequoia Brewing
Company in Fresno. Get
out your dancing shoes
and join us for a great
evening of music!

Jerry Venturi
Memorial Accordion Festival
JULY 28 MADERA
Talented accordionists will entertain you with accordion
solos and more in honor Madera’s
Music Man, Jerry Venturi, who helped
Nancy Clute start the concerts in the
Madera’s
park. Thanks to Chuck DeFina, Brad
Music
Man
Clark, Andrea Venturi, and the Central
Valley Accordion Club for organizing the
entertainment. Expected performers include Christine
Mariani, Rick DeCarlo, Rick Logluso, and many other
musicians who will celebrate Jerry’s memory in music.
Delicious BBQ beginning at 6PM.
AUG 11 CHOWCHILLA
Baloney Creek
Baloney Creek has been
performing together for the past
ten years and has shared their
music throughout the state.
Their own personal bluegrass
style has a twist of swing, a bit
of blues, a collection of classic
country, and old time fiddle
tunes incorporated. Entertaining
with traditional bluegrass, they have enjoyed performing at events such as Kings
River Bluegrass Festival, Caruthers and Turlock fairs, California Horned Toad
Derby, Concerts in the Park, and churches and private parties.

Chowchilla 4H, bookmark
crafts by Friends of the
Chowchilla Library, and
children’s and adults’
games by Greenhills
Lions. The Soroptimist
Club of Chowchilla
will be serving hot
dogs, nachos, popcorn,
and other delicious
treats.

NiteFlite
NiteFlite has been
playing since the
summer of 1995.
They have played
many venues in
the Central Valley,
including Concerts
in the Park, Harris
Ranch, Tenaya Lodge,
Jazz on the Lake at
Bass Lake, the Tachi Palace, the Chukchansi Gold Casino, the Fresno Fair, and
Jazz Fest. NiteFlite plays many colors of
music, including Blues, Old School, Motown,
Country Western, Classic Rock, Tex Mex,
and Cumbias.
Ballet Folklorico
Mizajaoa
In 2011, the Cobian family, with the support
of six other families, decided to organize a
folklorico group to show people what Mexico
is like and to keep the Mexican traditions
alive. The Ballet Folklorico Mizajaoa has
learned dances from 11 out of the 31 states
of Mexico. Their name is the union of the
first two letter of four states in Mexico:
Michoacan, Zacatecas, Jalisco, and Oaxaca.

Yard Dogs
TimDOG & BrettDOG began with a vision December 2002. They called on a
drummer/vocalist who helped lead The Yard Dogs to be recognized valley-wide for
their extensive variety and harmonies. After hitting clubs throughout the Central
San Joaquin Valley, they began to be sought after for business mixers, parties,

This is our 25th year, and we are excited to
offer seven concerts this season. The concert
series is presented through a partnership
between the Madera County Arts Council
and Madera Parks and Community Services.
