The Y is accessible to all people. Financial assistance is offered to individuals and families who cannot afford a membership. A.W.A.Y. Program Bring your YMCA membership card while traveling. The Y’s that participate in the A.W.A.Y. program welcome you at their facility. Code of Conduct All individuals using the YMCA facilities are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the character, welfare, best interests and policies of the YMCA. Failure to do so will result in the immediate dismissal from the premises and may result in revocation of membership and/or usage privileges. Crossroads YMCA Crossroads YMCA is the association that includes four branches in Lake County, Indiana: Griffith, Hammond, Southlake and Whiting. Crossroads Y members can participate in programs at any branch, not just their home branch. Dress Code Policy Garments that have pictures and/or writing that are vulgar, suggestive, indecent or otherwise offensive or that allude to drugs, alcoholic drinks or gang involvement are not allowed. Individuals are not permitted to dress in a manner that’s unsafe or disrupts the mission of the Whiting Family YMCA. Members who do not follow the dress code policy will be required to leave the building. Continual abuse of the policy will result in membership suspension or cancellation. Workout clothing and hygiene items should be carried in a gym bag. Shirts and proper gym shoes must be worn at all times. Protective eyewear is highly recommended. Financial Assistance Program The Whiting Family YMCA wants everyone to enjoy its programs and services. Adult and family members who are unable to pay the full Crossroads YMCA— Griffith, Hammond, Southlake, and Whiting branches | Page 5 cost of YMCA membership may apply for reduced fees. The YMCA will not turn anyone away due to inability to pay. A Financial Assistance application and last year’s IRS tax returns must be presented. This process is required to be done annually. Failure to comply will result in automatic cancellation. Please contact our Associate Executive Director, Dave Mays, for membership assistance. Indiana Reciprocity The Y movement is for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We want to encourage members to utilize the Y as often as they can. Sometimes, it’s more convenient for members to utilize a Y in a different location when traveling, near a workplace or in another region. Now, full facility/full privilege YMCA members have the flexibility to use other Y facilities throughout the state, at no extra charge. Locker Room Policy The YMCA is not responsible for your personal belongings. Members are urged to use locks on their lockers. We suggest not bringing valuables of any kind. If you choose to use one of the free daily lockers, your belongings must be removed upon leaving the facility for the day. Belongings left in the locker or locks left on daily lockers will be removed at the end of the day—contents will be held for 2 weeks then discarded. Use of CAMERA DEVICES are prohibited in all Locker Rooms, Assisted Changing Rooms and Restrooms. Medical Insurance Individual medical insurance is NOT provided by Whiting Family YMCA. Individuals are responsible for their own medical costs arising from injuries while participating in YMCA activities. System credits are given for doctor substantiated reasons and then only for the portion of the fees unused after written notification. No refunds or credits will be given for classes or sessions not held due to “acts of God” such as severe weather, power failure, fire, etc...for questions please call the Executive Director.
